Violet Turpin has always lived for adventure and romance, a combination that has more than once gotten her into trouble. Her first attempt at a London debut was short and disastrous because her love of excitement far outstripped her concern for the proprieties. A few months later, she eloped with a sweet-talking fortune hunter and only saved from ruin in the nick of time. Now she’s determined to ride in fox hunts, even though that’s not something ladies do. Knowing all this, her brother asks his friend Lord Rushford to keep a close eye on her during her second attempt at a London Season—a task the earl is reluctant to take on, given his most inconvenient attraction to the madcap Miss Turpin. His task is made harder by Violet’s plans for her time in London. Not only does she hope to find adventure and True Love, she is determined to meet and assist the fabled Saint of Seven Dials, whom she has long idolized. When a plausible rogue learns of her obsession with the Saint, he hatches a plot of his own to take advantage of it—and her. Rush will have his hands full keeping Violet out of trouble as he tries to catch whoever is impersonating the Saint of Seven Dials, all while trying to reconcile himself to the betrothal he unwisely agreed to the previous year. Will he and Violet realize that True Love is right under their noses in time to prevent a lifetime of regrets?

Book 3 in Brenda Hiatt’s The Seven Saints Hunt Club reminds me why I fell in love with The Saint of Seven Dials and Brenda Hiatt. It has been a long time since I had read any of the Saint books but Ms. Hiatt took me back and it was as if I had read them yesterday. I loved Violet Turpin’s zest for life and the fact that she was a female did not dissuade her, much to her family’s chagrin. Oh poor Lord Rushford, tasked with keeping an eye on Violet while in London. A task that Violet does not make easy when she’s determined to assist the Saint of Seven Dials; nor while he finds himself falling in love with the vixen while engaged to another. Thank you Ms. Hiatt for another look into the Seven Saints Hunt Club and please give us more!
Miss Violet Turpin's romantic nature and thirst for adventure consistently see her in trouble. Her impulsiveness already cut her first attempt at a London season short and she is now attempting a second one after cutting off an elopement with a silver tongued fortune hunter. Unable to accompany her to town, Violet's brother asks his longtime friend Lord Rushford to look out for her during their time in London. Rush reluctantly agrees, whilst fighting off his pesky attraction to Violet and trying to stir some feeling for her friend Mary, his betrothed.
Violet causes trouble almost immediately in London with her trust of an old friend of hers whom Rush knows to be bad news, and with her determination to meet and aide her idol, the famed Saint of Seven Dials. Rush must catch the rogue impersonating the real Saint, keep Violet safe and do something about his engagement before they're both condemned to a life of misery.
Talk about a slow burn. Our main character's openly disdain one another for much of the book, though this is, of course, just the two of them hiding from their feelings. I just kept wishing everyone would speak up for themselves already as the farce was allowed to continue much too long for me. The pace picked up and held my attention more in the final quarter of the book and it wound up being very charming, despite the fact that the heroine did still frustrate me just a bit.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
If you enjoy Regency romances, especially ones that include a bit of mystery and adventure, then add Brenda Hiatt to your reading list. I just finished "A Taste for Scandal" and it had all the elements I love in a good romance.
Violet Turpin, the heroine, has already been in some scrapes at the start of the novel. Her first season ended quite abruptly when she wore the very wrong sort of dress in public. Her brother asks his friend Rush, Lord Rushford, to keep an eye on Violet, which is difficult for Rush because he finds her very attractive, though completely unsuitable. He's also practically betrothed to another woman. Every time Rush and Violet meet, they clash. Wrapped up in it all, they're both on a mission - independently - to uncover the identity of a notorious thief.
I really had fun reading "A Taste for Scandal." Violet is smart, even though she sometimes acts without thinking things through. Rush comes across as a bit stodgy sometimes, but he has the very bent of honor.
This book is part of the 7 Saints Hunt Club series, which in turn is a follow up to the Saint of Seven Dials Series. I have not read the others, but I was not lost at all.
I highly recommend "A Taste for Scandal" for readers who like headstrong heroines, honor-bound heroes, and stories that include a bit of action and suspense.
A Taste for Scandal is the third book in the Seven Saints Hunt Club Series, but it can be read as a standalone. The book was well written and full of surprises. Violet eloped with a fortune hunter during her first London Season, but luckily wasn’t successful. She is going to attend a second Season and her brother asks his best friend Lord Rushford to keep an eye on her. Violet becomes intrigued with a book by the Saint of Seven Dials and attempts to find and identify the Saint. Rush is trying to identify the false Saint in order to protect the true Saint of Seven Dials. They have several obstacles to overcome in order to find their HEA. I would definitely recommend reading this book! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Not to my Taste. I can’t point my finger to anything in particular but I couldn’t connect to either Violet or Rush. I found Violet rather immature and was unsure what a former military man who had been through a war, would have found in her to interest him. Equally he was at turns stand-offish and smug, so why was she attracted to him? This being so, I read the story in bit and pieces, rather than in one sitting which is my usual reading preference. The story had no glaring errors or historical inaccuracies; it had the obligatory villain, headstrong heroine, carriage flight and a rather nice HEA. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A good story, but a little predictable. Violet, the heroine gets into some scrapes that she should know would lead to disaster. Rush takes a long time to admit his feelings and does nothing to try to get out of his mismatched betrothal. Interesting secondary characters, which make you want to read the other books in the series.
A Taste for Scandal takes place in the Saint of Seven Dials plotline. It has a bit of a twist in it but that makes it very enjoyable. We see many of the previous characters and get to experience the romance of Violet and Rush. A very enjoyable read!
