The Portrait

Rate this book
Louise Raeburn was having a bad day. Not only was the weather awful; she had been dumped by her boy-friend the night before and had just walked out of her job without having the least idea what she was going to do next.To escape the weather she dived into the local Coombe Art Gallery and her life was to change forever. There she meets Martin, a descendant of the founder of the gallery, Sir Roger Coombe, who was an ardent collector living in the eighteenth century. Together they make surprising discoveries about the lives of the Coombe family, lives that have a bearing on people living – and dying – in the twenty first. Indeed, Martin finds himself arrested for a murder not unconnected with an eighteenth century death…. And is the necklace, seen in a Coombe portrait in the Gallery, and then found by Louise and Martin in a local antique shop fake? Real? Or of no importance whatever?
