Emma's family is desperate for a new place to live when they have to move out of her childhood home. When her grandparents hear about a place in their price range they have no other choice but to take what they can get. Little did Emma know, her family lived there about twenty years prior. Soon she discovers the house is already occupied and even though there's thirteen rooms in this two story house, it's still not substantial for all of the residents, living and spiritual.
The Gray House is based on actual events during the time we lived there.
I do agree with the other readers that this felt written by a teenager but it didn’t bother me. It started off really good and honestly quite creepy but then it got a bit out of hand in the middle. It was so saturated with the hauntings that it felt a bit unbelievable. It needed to be reeled in and I think the author did just that, the last 1/4 of the book was my favorite part and I really felt it came together at the end. I’m so familiar with this house and the city the home is in - I enjoyed being able to immerse myself in the surroundings. Also absolutely drove me crazy there were no page numbers. Overall 2.5-3
I drive past The Gray House in Claremont almost daily so I was extremely excited to read this book. It is written a little amateur at times, but it’s her first novel. I would be super interested to see her write a memoir on her actual experience in that house. All in all, it was a good read and I felt myself immersing and visualizing the story in my head which always tells me it’s a good read. I’m looking forward to reading what she has next!
I cannot stop raving about this book and telling every single person I know about it. I got this as a loan from a friend and I’m now hunting for a copy to keep in my library eternally. I actually live in the area this is based in and I really do believe what she’s experienced. Shauna truly expressed her experience in a captivating and well-written way.
I just couldn’t get into this one. If I wasn’t a local I would have given up sooner, but knowing the house and area I was interested. I think the story just needs some good reorganization and editing. I didn’t even know the main character had a boyfriend until halfway through… 🫤
I really liked this book. Some of it seemed to be missing some info and kinda jumped around. Left me wanting to know so much more which I supposed is what a good book does! Really hope a second book about the gray house is done!
This was a good story, however some editing is needed. It was hard to follow who was speaking and there were several typos. I did enjoy the plot though.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone! I have been raving about it since I read it. I am from this town the Author has written about and I go by the gray house all the time. I as well know the Author and I can’t phantom all the horrific things that she suffered. My heart pours out to her!
