This was my textbook in a Jazz Orchestration course that we only referred to certain pages of for examples. I finally read it cover to cover over 15 years later. If you want to compose or arrange any ensemble music in any jazz style through the 1970s, it's hard to imagine any better reference. Very comprehensive from harmonic voicings, the many possible uses of instrumentation, and procedures for creating a sketch.
