Heroes of the Final Frontier #1

This is a sequel to Dem Mikhailov’s cult LitRPG saga Clan The Sleepless Ones!

Life is an immense colored mosaic of stories and biographies. This is true for the virtual world of Waldyra as well—it’s enormous, boundless, and full of colors. The end of one story is also the beginning of another. The story of the Great Navigator and the Great Oceanic Expedition might have been a long one, but it was simply a very short epoch of the Great Navigator to the world of Waldyra. And this epoch already ran its course.

However, the story of Rosgard was only beginning, and life has many challenges, adventures, clan quests, and mysteries in stock for him—as well as family trouble and a plethora of momentous events that begin randomly and end unpredictably.

This story is for those interested in what happens to Rosgard after the Great Expedition and what other adventures he’ll have and secrets he’ll learn. Even though he remains a famous player, his legendary status is no more, and he is no longer under the auspices of the incredibly influential clan of the Sleepless Ones.

What will Rosgard get involved in now?

He obviously needs to ponder founding a clan, choosing the region of Waldyra that he favors the most as his home base. The problem, though, is that soon after the exodus of most old school heavyweight players to Zar’Graad the PKs and the fledgling Old Continent clans transformed the Lake District, which remained unattended, into a gloomy and dangerous place. Therefore, one would first of all have to put things in order with an iron hand so that life could finally get back to normal.

Attention! It is recommended to familiarize oneself with the Clan the Sleepless Ones series before embarking on this journey!

Entertaining but nothing to write home about. Everybody else discovers the new continent or the old one and has adventures. The heroe, however, forms his own mini guild and like a good lonesome ranger tries to save a group of NPC characters from certain death and a town from being overtaken by some PK.

Glad to rejoin the adventures of Rosgard.

2 things caught me off though:
1) audiobook only: The narrator changed and while voices changing can always be a tad disorienting the enunciation, cadence, and feel changed. Took me a day or two to get used to it. Ros was easy enough, but orbit seemed the most difficult to acquaint to. Kyria the protectress is also now said more like Kyrie

2) the ending was a bit abrupt and makes me think this and the next book or two were written as a single volume that was split after the fact/ split for a deadline. Mostly this is what stopped me from adding a final star.

The only other reason I wouldn't give this 5 stars like I would have for some other first entries of good series: it really needs most of the backstory from the other series in order to get into it. I'd recommend most to not treat this as book one in a series but instead as Book 10 in a universe

Book one

Mistakes: I did find a handful scattered across this book. I never received an ARC as I was battling either the flu or covid and couldn't really focus for a few weeks. The seven mistakes I found are listed on Goodreads.

Plot: Ros and company, the heroes of The Sleepless Ones series are back! Ros is dealing with a lot. From starting his clan to defending the helpless. Our hero and his friends are ready for everything and anything.

Characters: This book is mostly focused on Ros the MC. While all the normal crew do make an appearance, it's Ros solo adventures for the most part.

7/10 I look forward to more.

Nice Return Back!

Great trip back to the Ruth’s if Waldyra, and going back to the roots of what made the original series such a delightful read. Fun, lots of action, not over powered, focused on individual characters.

Enjoyable

I am so glad that there is a continuation of the characters from the original series. I really enjoyed the world and perspective of Ros the main character.

Starts out as a long epilogue, finally gets moving at the end.
