In this tropical paradise, the games are rough and the women never win.

Signing a one-month contract allowing rich, brutish men to prey on me isn’t a wholesome way to earn a scholarship for my sister, but desperate times call for reckless measures.

Keeping a low profile is no longer an option when Ajax and Calder start targeting me. Sure, they’re hot, but they’re also twisted and mean, and won’t leave me alone. To make matters worse, every time they claim me for themselves I learn something new and shameful about my deepest, most deviant fantasies.

But they’re not the only threat on this island.

Sacrificing my body may be inevitable, but sacrificing my life wasn’t in the contract.

5 All’s Fair in War and War Stars ⭐

Prey Island was perfect kinky fuckery. This author has an extraordinary knack of making something hardcore, strangely appealing. I mean being bait on an island full of heathens in suits should be a hard limit, right?!

How had I not known some of my kinks were so...twisted?

There's no free rides on Prey Island. Everything is supposedly consensual and there's makeup for the bruises. When Lane signed up for a month in exchange for money to help her family, she barely grasped the finer details. Being hunted is just the beginning. But 30 days of it? Sounds impossible...

You run, you fight. Hide if you can, but don’t forget to lube before you go out for a hunt.”

Ajax and Calder are no saviours. They're just as depraved as all the other rich men on the island. Yet strangely they're intrigued by Plain Lane. Even if she's like none of the other women, her fire tempts them. And breaking her in could be seen as mercy.

Men like Calder and Ajax were like my own personal, addictive toxin. I’d always chosen nice guys even though I had an unfortunate weakness for heartless man-whores who would chew me up and spit me out.

While Lane is trying to keep her vagina intact, Ajax and Calder are trying to salvage their unorthodox relationship. Lane could quite possibly be the glue to this fucked up equation.

I loved this book. It was messed up, debauched and bloody angsty. Be warned, there are so many triggers, dub con, knife play, damp panties. In fact it was a trip of a ride!!

This is a tough one to review and rate. While I admire the author jumping head first into this kind of setting, the overall story made me feel gross. It had flavors of Ann Rice's The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, pure kinky erotica without heart.

It felt like the author wanted to make a strong statement about how our patriarchal society is incredibly damaging to women, but then she wrote a story about an island where wealthy men pay to physically, sexually, and emotionally torture women.
This place was a mirror of the world outside—rich men running our lives, taking what they wanted, and leaving us to deal with the aftermath.
Every trigger warning you've ever heard of is attached to this book.
"If it wasn’t for men like you, places like this wouldn’t exist.”
The h annoyed the heck out of me the entire book. The screaming, the constant arguing, and the denial of what she got herself into. She hates how she's treated, yet she wants MORE...but will complain about it the entire time. There's one (completely inappropriate) scene where she can't move or talk, and it was such a relief that she finally shut up. I know, I know, I feel horrible for even typing that.

The two H held my attention. Complete assholes and manwhores, yes, but I liked them much better than the h. Their MM relationship was smokin! There is a sorta hfn, bizarre ending.

Is it realistic that all the men on this island are under forty, and most are hot? I think a bunch of balding, overweight men would be a better representation of who we'd find here. However, this is just a story right? Men buying women would never happen in real life.

I'm going to stick with a 2.5 star rating rounded up. Mostly because it was well written, thought-provoking, and quite a discussion starter.

It's... a little bit me, and a little bit you.

I have read two of Sorcha Black's MMF standalones previously. One, I loved and the other I at least liked, so I expected not to struggle too much with Prey Island.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

It started with the premise. Essentially, our heroine Lane learns about a mysterious agency which hosts CNC - 'consensual non-consent' - parties, comprised of young, nubile females and the males wealthy enough to pay for them. The women act as prey in primal-inspired roleplays that involve being hunted down in a forest and roughly handled by the men. In return, the women will get fully-funded degrees of their choice.

It isn't like this is the first time ever I've heard of this premise. A while ago in Oxford, there was apparently a drinking soc which recruited girls for a similar purpose. However, for some reason in this book I just found myself constantly pulled out of the suspension of disbelief I needed to enjoy it. For instance, all the guys are under 40, so they're relatively young and handsome - would an agency like this really institute such a requirement, since older men are more likely to afford it? That sort of thing.

My second biggest issue is with Lane's character. Good characterisation was the thing which made Cruel Idols, so it's unsurprising that bad characterisation would break Prey Island for me. Lane is, in short, ALL OVER THE PLACE psychologically. Not in a 'normal 20-year-old girl acclimatising to a new lifestyle' way. More in a 'kisses a guy, throws sand in his eyes to escape him, even while running wants to return to him, says she hates him then in the same breath wants to blow him' sort of way. Her mindset leading up to her first visit to the island made no sense to me. She seems to hate the thought of the whole thing, and has vowed to steer clear of any men, yet her actions don't match her words (and vice versa).

I suppose you could say that's part of the CNC thing. But I think my reviewing history makes it fairly obvious that I've read a lot of books with dubious consent, rough sex scenes, heroine learning about BDSM that's not safe or sane, etc. As long as her reactions feel realistic and consistent, it works. Lane didn't give me that impression.

As for the 'it's not you, it's me': the MMF relationship feels very heavy on the MM rather than the F. Even at the very end of the book, Lane comes across as a footnote to the men's relationship - something I also sensed in The Sharp Edge of Bliss, so it seems to be a deliberate theme.

Technically, however, Black's prose is as sound as ever, and I certainly wouldn't rule out reading her again.

Unique premise that I loved. Women agree to go to an island in order to be “hunted” by rich men with CNC kink. This is a consensual service offered by a shadowy organization. The women who apply are required to go through a psych evaluation, physical examination etc. and they agree in order to make more money than they would earn doing a waitress job, for example, or other types of sex work.

I’ve been reading “darker” romance/erotica and I’m really feeling a mood change where I still want the darkness but a heroine/hero who is a lil sassy, humorous - charming. I think I read Prey Island in one sitting because there was some cute banter between Lane, Calder, and Ajax.

I would give this 5 if the plot tied up what happens to Delilah, I’m not sure if this will be a series but I’m treating this as a stand-alone book.

However, the kink works AND the m/m/f romance is hot. This is a smutty read 🥵👏🏽 I usually find m/m/f not very titillating as the few that I have read, the chemistry between the m/m is so much more hotter than with f, and I also just don’t know if I’ve read a romance with a heroine with multiple partners that I’ve connected with on an emotional level. This is why I liked that in this romance, the m/m are already in a relationship and the f is the newcomer. Calder and Ajax have such chemistry with each other, yet Calder’s initial attraction to Lane, and Ajax’s begrudging care of Lane felt organic.

Only read if you are interested in CNC.

Twenty-year-old Lane has signed up to spend a month on an island where she will be pampered and spoiled in five-star luxury and hunted by sadistic brutish men in a series of barbaric events. She has done this to secure a tertiary scholarship for her younger sister, who would otherwise be unable to continue her education beyond high school.

Sorcha Black has given us a smart, resourceful and very likeable heroine in Lane and thrown her into the midst of some real monsters, and Ajax and Calder - also sadistic brutes, but with hearts of gold and in a long-term relationship themselves - who may be interested enough in Lane to keep her safe through her ordeal.

The location is idyllic, the men are variously gorgeous and monstrous, the peril is real and the sex is breathtaking. If you like it dark and rough, you'll find a lot to like here.

This is the first book in a series. Lane gets her happily-ever-after, but there is a lead-in to a second book - already available at the time of this review - which follows another young woman through her experience on the island.

I am a fan of Sorcha Black's and was beyond excited to get my hands on an early copy.

It's not a light read, but it is a riveting read. I was glued to the pages.

CNC (consensual non-consent) is little understood, and I loved the way it was portrayed in this story. How Lane questions her sanity but can't resist the draw of being hunted and captured. I loved how protective Ajax and Calder were of her... while also being unapologetically brutal.

And, of course, Sorcha developed many side characters I was rooting for, from her sister to her aunt to the few she formed bonds with on the island. Delilah, I still worry for her.

Highly recommended to those who like intense stories.

So this one is hard for me to rate. I had no issues with any triggers that people may find. My main and really only issue was the main FMC, Lane.

I found her to be really immature at times. She has had multiple warnings from people to walk and not do this month-long 'getaway'. But she is determined to pay for college for her youngest sister. I get it. I commend her for doing just that. So please explain to me why she whined and screamed and acted like she was kidnapped the whole dang book!!!! It would've been different if she was kidnapped and taken to this island and was forced to do things she didn't want to. But she volunteered. She signed all the papers and NDA's. She had a LONG time to mentally prepare for this.

Ajax and Calder take an interest in her and honestly, I didn't think they were bad to her considering. They protected her. She just fought to fight and it got really old, really quick for me. Or the screaming. I'm good if she wants to scream with anyone else but not with these two.

I'm between a 2 and a 3 for this book. I loved Ajax and Calder. I think they were perfect for each other and for Lane on the island. So maybe I'll go with a 3 because of those two. I love Sorcha Black's books. I just think I'm over the immature young female MC's and their awful inner dialogue. Maybe if we would've had multiple POV's it would've been a lot better. Getting a break from her would've been much appreciated.

Discovering this author years ago was a gift. She is dang good at creating a story that has grittiness to it. This book was reminiscent of the Feral King series. Yes,the story was different but the extremes and characters made me associate them together. That isn't a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.

I always appreciated the work this author does in creating a story. With each book, she gets better and better with her skill as a writer.

I enjoyed that this book was different than others in this field. In a way, the island reminded me of Hostel the movie where rich people go hunt people.

I hope the author continues this with another book about the mystery of Delilah.

Triggers galore, but oh so good!

When I first started this I thought, oh this is going to be nice. A young girl, in somewhat low circumstances, decides to help her younger sister with college tuition. That sounds like a very nice thing to do, right? It really is and her bestie had done something to pay for her degree so let's see what she did!

Lane is such a wonderful and sweet girl who really surprised me with just about everything in this story. She finds out what her BFF did and she decides that she can do this too! Right from the beginning, the medical evaluation has her having second thoughts. But not for long, because she is determined to see this through for her sister. So off she goes to the remote island that is hosting this whole show.

Ajax and Caulder are both likable guys, in the beginning. But Lane really has no idea what she's in for. I liked Ajax right off. But I think you're supposed to as he is the nicer of the two. Caulder? Not nice at all. And he really never changes except for one short conversation he has with Lane, that almost completely redeems himself in my eyes. Remember I said 'almost.' When I mentioned triggers, I really meant it. This story went places I couldn't make up in my own mind. But I do so love surprises. I wouldn't even call this dubious consent and go straight for the non-consensual. Even though Lane, kinda, sorta, maybe thought she knew what she was getting. I would call that a big fat No! But it doesn't mean she didn't like it. I mean, she didn't but she did and then didn't, and then she did. So I guess I should change that from non-consent to consensual.

I love all of Sorcha's stories, this one included. Her writing really made this story wonderful for me. I wasn't sure when I started it if I was going to like it. I'll admit it had me worried. But her character development of everyone really made this such a good story. I couldn't help but fall in love with Lane and I'll admit, Ajax and Caulder. I say Caulder with a caveat. He stays the same throughout the story. Kind of a jerk. But he made the whole thing work. And there are other characters in the story that I couldn't help but love and it made the whole thing work for me. Especially the woman Lane meets on the island, Delilah. I would love to hear more about her. Maybe, can we hope, there will be a second book?

If you love rough intense scenes, MMF scenes, kinkery galore, lots of action and loveable characters and, a HEA then this is a book you'll enjoy. I really had a hard time putting this down once I started it!

This was a pretty good read. Lane is a struggling 20 year whose mother left her and her sister years ago. The girls where raised by there Aunt Jen who has some health problems. Lane will do anything to help her sister get to college. When a friend tells her how she paid for college she sacrifices a month of her life to pay for her sister to go to school. Lane is accepted and she agrees to go to the island. Lane was very naive and annoying I mean she signed up to do this yet she complains about doing it. Lane meets Delilah on the plane she has been here before and she gives her some tips which she didn't follow. I liked this book but I wish the author would have written it as non-consensual. Calder and Ajax are a D/s couple they are both hot rich and sadist Calder takes a liking to Lane. Some of the men were downright brutal and one wanted her dead. I really liked Delilah and I really hope that the author writes about her. I found the sex scenes to be hot. When she gets home Lane realizes that she misses the island and that her life is boring and working a dead end job wasn't paying the bills she also missed the guys. They come for her and gets a chance at a new life for her and her aunt. I love reading this author she writes really good menage reads. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

Sorcha Black’s Prey Island is everything you’ve been wanting in a darkish and twisted story and that much more. As I started reading, things were coming up and the only thing I could think was, “Oh, this is so not going to end well,” and then Ms. Black took it that much farther and I for one, could not be more delighted. She regularly ticks all the boxes on what I enjoy in a rough story and even some of what I don’t. Lane is a great mix of altruistic and mercurial (sometimes, once or twice?) and every time she fights what’s happening, it’s with the understanding that everything she’s doing is for her sister. Until it isn’t. And getting there was excruciating AND enjoyable.

I love the concept of this story. It’s not simply the women agreeing to do this for money, it’s to cover their education—whether it’s for a BA/BS on up to a MD/PhD—and there’s something about it that I just “get”. The whole of idea of even attempting to afford a higher education in today’s world is a terrifying concept and to have it given to you (after working very hard for it) in this way is appealing and also very very wrong. But in a good way. The men are assured (mostly) that the women participating are of reasonable intelligence and their ulterior motives are to better themselves, or someone close to them, which is creative and twisted, and I love it. The men are varied with the exception that they all have more money than sense and have expectations of entitlement, which seriously ups the entertainment value. Ajax and Calder make for an amazing duo and I loved how their little details were slowly doled out as I eagerly awaited the next tidbit offered by Ms. Black. This story is a twisted delight of mind duckery that my own twisted little mind inhaled.

I'll make this review short or else I'm going to be writing an essay. This was a letdown.

Another reviewer mentioned that this was more MM rather than focusing on the F/narrator of the story in the relationship, and I couldn't agree more. Keep that in mind with this "MMF."

The contract, island "paradise," hunting a human being with the expectation of something sexual once you're caught (whether you want it or not), everything goes for these rich men, was a new thing for me. I had never read a story like this before, so kudos for intriguing me. There was so much potential here, but it didn't live up to my expectations.

I didn't like any of the characters. Anal was treated like the most kinky and dirty thing ever and let me tell you, it's pretty vanilla nowadays in erotica and dark romances (once or twice you see it, but 90% of the time? No.) There wasn't any diversification in the bedroom tbh (don't get me started on the willing date-rape drug causing paralysis scene). I'd much rather read more psychological twists and turns with angst, consensual non-consent, and characters who actually like/have a relationship with our narrator/main character (See Nenia Campbell, Sam Mariano, Penelope Douglas...)

Hated the ending since it was just a continuation of the 1 month contract with no character or relationship development.

Skip this one, tbh. But I'll be on the lookout for similar storylines because some author out there definitely used the potential and wrote something amazing.

TW: rape on page (I consider many scenes in this book rape despite these women "signing up for any and everything"), consensual non-consent, degradation/humiliation, dubious consent, anal play galore

Hmmm. Sort of scared to rate/review this one because of the sometimes quite dubious consent. This book was recommended to me by some perv on here (kidding) or I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. I’ve got to admit that I much better understand the appeal of consensual non-consent play now (by understand I mean this book is hot af). That beings said, there are scenes and themes that are rough, trigger inducing, not all that consensual or hot so …I don’t know …proceed with caution I guess. Also, it’s pretty ridiculous, but it’s called Prey Island so what did you expect? If heavily muscled alpha bi guys forcing women (or men) to do things that they secretly want to do sounds like a good time to you, then you should read this (and we should be probably be friends). If “hunting” women on an island is something you’d rather pass on, maybe skip it (we can prolly still be friends).

It would have been four stars but I needed more of a HEA and commitment at the end. I was surprised that it wasn’t there from either one of them especially since we get it in her other books. She didn’t feel adored in the same way that she seemed to adore them and that bothered me.

Lane will do whatever it takes to get sister’s college paid for so she can attend Duke. She signs herself up for a one-month contract on an island where rich men prey on her. She tries to keep a low profile but she ends up making enemies as well as friends. The people who run the island won’t let her stay hidden for long. Will her enemies find her or can Ajax and Calder keep her safe as they enjoy claiming her as their own? Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and dark twists and turns. The chemistry is steamy and the scenes between Ajax, Calder and Lane are off the charts hot! I was hooked from beginning to end. I loved it!

What a read!

This is the first book I have read by this author. This book may not be for everyone. If you are looking for a dark read that is focused on a CNC theme, this might be the book for you. The lines are blurred between the characters in this book. But those blurred lines are what also makes it a very compelling book to read.

The storyline of this book is simple - Lana wants to ensure she can pay the way for her sister to go to school. I did think she was a bit (or a lot) naïve. It becomes apparent that she really does not know what she is getting into. But once she gets on the island, she cannot turn back. Shortly after arriving on the island she meets two very complex men - Ajax and Calder. The rest is a cat and mouse game between Lana, Ajax, Calder and a few very unsavory hunters on the island. While it does have an HEA - although not necessarily what one might expect from a traditional HEA, but it does end in one. It also teases the reader to a second book.

It is important to understand that this book may contain triggers for some. An understanding of CNC would help greatly and it is dark and rough read. if you are expecting a heart and flower romance ménage story, this probably will not be the one for you, but if this is something you like or would be interested in and you have an open mind, this could be a very enjoyable book for you to read. I will definitely read more from this author.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for review.

This is so good! Where can I find this in real life 😩 I mean, a month long sex work for a full ride scholarship? Sign me up baby!!!!

Lane is such a good little bratty submissive ( though idk if she counts as a submissive lol) she gives the men at island hell and fights back or rather, she bites back. Delilah was such a nice side character, I hope she's doing well with her own obsessive alphas ♡.

I really liked the dynamic between Calder and Ajax. Gets me all hot and bothered too lmao! Calder plays the good cop and Ajax is the bad cop. Calder claims he likes Lanie first but its always Ajax who seeks out our petite princess ( i started referring to her as petite princess in head since they never let us forget that she's so tiny in this sea of huge, hulking men lol). And the way Calder switches from nice guy to cold guy? Chef's 💋.

I actually hoped for a little breeding kink there at end since it was hinted for bit, but oh well. I think the story ended so beautifully. A total HEA for everyone.

I loved the characters and their banter ! I loved the writing style, I’m definitely going to read this author’s other books

I just didn’t really like the end/last chapters but that’s just my personal taste, I’m still giving it 4.5/5 stars because I loved everything else up until that point

Prey Island will make you question so many things! This is not a story for those who can't appreciate the blurred lines that sometimes come from CNC and that not everything will be consensual that happens.

Prey Island is fast paced with many characters that I hope to read more of!

DAMN!! This story had me all worked up (in a good way). It was definitely dark, twisted, taboo, depraved and stupidly titillating! Delilah, Ajax and Caulder lit my kindle on fire, soaked my panties and left me gasping for breath. It was that amazing! This phenomenal author threw us down a rabbit hole of debauchery, brutalness and utter madness that thrilled my little black heart.

The storyline was a unique twisted concept that entertained me to no end! I laughed out loud quite a bit at Delilah’s amazing comebacks and at Ajax’s love/hate towards everyone and his sarcasm. The kinkiness of every interaction they had kept me squirming on my seat. My B.O.B. had to come out and play a few times!

Really well written story that had me hooked, not wanting to ever take my eyes of the pages, and begging for more of Delilah, Ajax and Caulder’s story. Please give me more!

Prey Island was a really good story! Sorcha Black has a wonderfully devious imagination. Some of the antics and games that happened on this island were over the top crazy and so wild.
Lane our FMC is trying her best to make sure her sister has a better life, so much so that she signs herself up to attend this billionaire playground for a month to make money for her sister to attend university.
The men on this island are wealthy, demanding, and sometimes so over the top that you think they could not possibly be doing that to these women.
Fabulous unique story 💖

DNF.

The main character, Lane, was too annoying.

Despite being warned at every possible step, and despite signing multiple contracts that explicitly stated what she would be doing, she was still somehow shocked at every single thing that happened to her or the other girls.

We were also reminded on pretty much every second page that she was only there for her sweet precious sister. It was extremely repetitive and boring.

Lane had no idea how deeply she'd be entrenched when she signed up for this month-long commitment. It gave us a new look into the world of CNC and just how depraved and twisted it can get. Things got pretty dark with this story, but it was also alluring and steamy! The writing was amazing and sucked me right in! This was a sordid and entertaining tale!

This book had an eye catching title. I thought this would be a consensual non-consent book on an island. A fantasy vacation for like minded people.

Instead there was non-consent with many different characters in this book.

SPOILER SPOILERS POILER PSOILER SPOILER

The heroine is desperate for money. She works as waitress. Her aunt has diabetes and money is so tight she doesn't take enough insulin because they can't afford it. Her sister just got accepted to Duke, but they can't afford it.

A friend tells her you can sign up to go to this island and if you stay a month, they pay for tuition anywhere you want. The friend also tells her not to go. That she will regret every having gone.

Heroine goes. The medical exam involves being raped by the doctor and his assistant on camera. She yells no repeatedly and they refuse to stop. She only agreed to a medical exam.

She gets to the island and they tell them they have a safeword but if they use it they will be punished. Unless the guys/men were almost killing them.

She is beaten, attacked by multiple men. The heroes are Calder and his lover. They rescue her a few times. But then they loan her out to a friend. They force her to have sex with this other guy while the two heroes watch. She says no repeatedly.

One night they drug the girls at a sleepover (they didn't know they would be drugged) so they can't even use their safeword.

One girl is gang raped and in the medical section for 2 weeks. She disappears. They tell the other girls she went home but they are suspicious. She told the girls she was coming back so she'd get paid. They think human trafficking is going on but have no one to tell.

Heroine's friend is kidnapped while she is sitting next to her on a "rest" day. On the rest days the girls must be left alone (unless the girls initiate something).

The heroes try to find out what happened to her. Management eventually claims she agreed to a private contract. Heroine doesn't believe it because she asked heroine to be her friend after they left the island. She didn't say she was accepting a private contract.

She goes home and her sister goes off to school. Heroes track her down and break into her apartment and rape her after tying her up while she is asleep. She thinks she is about to be murdered when they turn the lights on after they've finished and she realizes it's them.

They offer her a one year contract. She goes to live with them as their toy and her aunt gets a condo, furniture, and her medicine. Aunt thinks she got a job as a rich man's live in assistant.

At the end of the book, they show her off naked and wearing a collar to another man. He tells them he saw heroine's friend and she's with 2 men who scared her on the island. So she is alive. They still don't know where.

Always love Sorcha’s work.

(May contain spoilers)

This book was almost everything I could have hoped for. I went in with eyes open about the books that Sorcha Black writes, they’re dark and gritty and there’s usually some kind of CNC involved(which is why I love love love it), this one hit a little harder than some of her others with full on brutal dubious consent scenes. I wish there was a bit more tenderness at some points in the book. The ending missed the mark for me and while I understand more about the BDSM world than the ‘average person’ it was still a bit disconcerting. I felt like there lacked the bit of love(or at least fondness) between the main characters that Sorcha usually leaves us with.

I wouldn’t mind more books from this universe but bough. :)

CNC

I thought the writing reflected well what someone who found themselves in this situation would feel. There was good detail in the reactions and thought that the two Hs were written well.

It is an interesting concept. Sort of a CNC version of Hunger Games but where every female competitor has the chance to win at the end of the month (supposedly-some characters have their doubts as to whether cover ups are happening).

The h signs up to win the full ride scholarship prize for her sister. She needs to survive a month in a jungle as prey for male competitors. There are recovery and pampering days before the hunt begins again.
