About the author

Marshall Rosenberg was an American psychologist and the creator of Nonviolent Communication, a communication process that helps people to exchange the information necessary to resolve conflicts and differences peacefully. He was the founder and Director of Educational Services for the Center for Nonviolent Communication, an international non-profit organization.

In 1961, Rosenberg received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and in 1966 was awarded Diplomate status in clinical psychology from the American Board of Examiners in Professional Psychology. He lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the Center for Nonviolent Communication's office is located.

Grundsätzlich ein gutes und wichtiges Buch über ein Thema, das uns wohl alle angeht. Gewaltfreie Kommunikation bzw. wie Konflikte geklärt werden können zur Zufriedenheit beider Seiten. Es geht viel um die Bedürfnisse beider Parteien.
Ich halte dieses Buch für wichtig und gut, es klingt aber manchmal etwas "einfach". Wenn eine Partei sich nicht darauf einlassen will, wird es schwierig, die Ratschläge umzusetzen.

Nice little book with vital information for conflict solving.
I like it.

The examples and definitions in the last 5 Chapters are a bit spares.

Especially the first 3 or 4 chapters had a very nice balance between information and informational anecdotes that support the understanding greatly.

This is like a cliff notes version of his NVC book (which is a must read).
Takeaways:
Abandon the goal of getting people to do what you want focus on creating the conditions for everyone's needs will be met.
RESOLVE CONFLICTS:
- Express your own needs.
- Sense their needs regardless of how they're expressing themselves.
- Check to see if needs are accurately being received.
- Provide empathy.
- Translate proposed solutions into positive action language.

This short book looks at using Nonviolent Communication in resolving conflicts - conflicts in relationships up to and including warring factions.
It is a small but powerful exploration of Marshall Rosenberg's technique and a heart-felt plea to engage in being literate about our needs and voicing them clearly and hearing the other people's needs too. He also emphasises the need to separate needs from strategies and to frame our strategies using positive action language.
It is very short and slips into my bag with my tablet, smartphone and other things easily.
It makes me think and is powerful for that.

Revolutionary thinking! A most amazing concept to resolve conflicts. I will read whatever I can get from Rosenberg the concept of violence free communication is very appealing! He recommends trying to understand what one's own needs really are in order to be able to express them to the other party in a conflict and then really try to understand their needs. Often we don't even really know what our own needs are - not to speak of those of the others. Highly effective.

This is a very short book in which the author provides a framework for conflict resolution.
I didn't find any groundbreaking stuff in here.
The main gist is: in a conflict, focus on needs and what the other person really wants. To help the other person communicate what they want and to communicate what you want.
