Custis Mars has a song in his blood, and it’s the music of war.
In the fallen world, he and his mutant hound will hunt the land, finding lost technology and people—for a fee.
When a vicious warlord begins to push south, Cus and his new allies will be forced to fight a stand-up war. It’s the kind of thing a Legacy avoids if he wants to live, but Cus has never shied away from a fight before, and he won’t do it now.
Against invaders with no mercy, Cus will show them what the meaning of true courage looks like—up close and personal.

Most books I’ve read lag from time to time but I can’t say that about this book. From start to finish it was interesting and fun reading. Of course the story takes place in a future put together by imagination and a bit of poetic fantasy yet it is written with a style that melds into a wonderfully believable possibility. The adult situations are handled tastefully and without a lot of wasted story time. Main characters Cus and Flint make a dynamic duo through out the tale without stealing all the thunder from other characters. I certainly hope book 2 is available soon and highly recommend this first segment.
The "Future" series, of which this is a spin-off, was my introduction to the author, and this to me is where he displays his strongest writing.
"Legacy" isn't particularly original, but is well executed. The harem elements are incidental, not the focus of the story, and the action scenes are well laid out. There are a lot of common elements to this shared with "Future" stories, but it's a big post-apoc world and there are many angles to explore. I'd like to see Cus meet up with our friends to the south, assuming this is contemporaneous. I guess we'll see.
Good expansion of the series into different parts of the world. Makes the MC from the other series less unique and opens things up for much more interesting future battles.
