Un volumen centrado más que todo en mostar el pasado de Historia y ahondar en intrigas políticas; dejando abierta la posibilidad de un golpe de estado dentro de las murallas.

This was a big improvement from the previous two volumes in the series. It feels like the plot is finally moving forward instead of simply adding more new mysteries. The bantering in this volume was super fun. This series is dark, but those little fun moments between the 104th corps really helps lighten the mood.

Nice twist! When the world is turning against you, throw it to the ground and step on its neck.

That's Proper Advice. :)

Right? What could go wrong with this plan? lol

I also love the exploration of Eren's abilities. It's about time they did some real experimentation. Muahahaha...

This volume was mostly talk, with lots of revelations, and the beginning formation of a plan, but very little action. That was ok though because I wanted at least some of my questions answered. Hopefully we see the plan implemented in Volume 14 with a return to more action.

--

EN After a few volumes of almost relentless action, this one takes a more measured approach.

The focus shifts to character dialogue and story development, allowing for deeper narrative expansion.

It becomes clear that Titans aren't the only threat to humanity. The Survey Corps find themselves up against an unexpected and invisible adversary.

I can't stop reading. I want to know what is going to happen next. So much plotting and so many secrets to be revealed. I also started the anime just to have a reminder of what happened in the beginning and it's just as good.

So now, the titan theory.

The Squad Levi scenes where they're all making house was a bit tone deaf. I realize they can't be fighting and running for their lives constantly but these scenes of "normal life" just were ... weird. Trying to insert levity at this point in the story just seemed like a way to fill pages.

Quickly after though, we find out and we're finally starting to get into the secrets the higher ups have kept from the masses. We also learn Krista's backstory and a new girl gets introduced that both Eren and Krista have memories of. Very curious to see who she is. Bunch of schemes are hatched and some of them work while others don't. This was a pretty plot-heavy volume which, yay, because pages after page after page of messy titan fights gets boring.

Some more strategy, experimental scientific method and intrige. Low on fighting but interesting nonetheless, with a focus on the dirty role of the monarchy
Going over our shortcomings and bitching about our situation is an important ritual

The plot thickens in this part, with our first glimpses of the capital and an unexpected new ally joining the survey corps.

Can we just move the plot along a little faster? Maybe have some development that actually relates to the main conflict? Maybe even, oh I don't know, have Eren pull his head out of his ass and realize that, gee, dad left me a key to a secret lab, and maybe there are some answers there?

I'm getting tired of waiting for this series to actually make progress, instead of just creating a million and two subplots that never fully seem to connect. Some of these subplots have immense potential and add a lot of interest, but are just swept under the rug by the main characters, even though they seem crucially important to the problems at hand.

Isayama introduces a few interesting concepts, like the plot point with Connie's village, and then just buries them in senseless political "intrigue" without giving any hint as to why these people are so interested in Eren and Krista in the first place. And then to just drop random dreams into key characters and have them dismiss those panels immediately as "just a dream?" It's not drawing me into the story or keeping me interested in what might happen next - it's just making me frustrated. The series needs more focus, before it gets stuck trying to be too many things at once.

The highlights of this volume came from the little bits of humor dropped along the way, and basically everything Levi did and said. Other than that, this was a pretty mediocre addition to what started out as a great series.

After last few vol's which were full of action, it was nice to get a break. This volume was definitely a lot slower that the rest, but it was still interesting. I also really enjoyed the political aspect of the story.

Can't wait to read the next one, and hopefully FINALLY GET SOME ANSWERS!!!

'NO SAFE PLACE'.

Everything rides on Eren as the plot moves forward and were given some hints where were heading.

There's still Eren's father and that basement and that village.

The art does seem to be getting better..a little more detailed to my eye.

Things I like about Attack on Titan:
• The anime’s theme song is incredible. I jam out to it while studying, walking the dog, cooking dinner, etc.
• Those uniforms are a cosplayer’s dream. Been to a con lately? You’ll see enough Scout Regiment soldiers to fight off an actual titan.
• Subversion of gender roles.
• Erwin Smith is totally unphased by whatever hellish situation he finds himself in. Sometimes, when I need to appear powerful and confident, I impersonate Commander Erwin. Works surprisingly well.

Things I dislike about Attack on Titan:
• Sadly, Goodreads reviews have a character count.

Actual storytelling in Attack on Titan is… rare. Almost nonexistent. Like pandas. If you cut the inner monologues and panels of characters looking shocked, each manga volume would be four pages long. Did we forget that crucial exposition scene that explains what the heck is going on here? Oops! Just cram a flashback into the middle of the action! Important plotlines like the key in the Shinganshina basement... we'll just forget about that for ten volumes at a time. Plot progression in Attack in Titan is nonexistent, as each arc ends in a Pyrrhic victory and is then discarded.

On a similar note, let’s talk about some of those big reveals. Some (like the identity of the Female Titan) make absolutely no sense and have never been explained. Some (the identity of the Colossal and Armored Titans) are so ridiculous they made me laugh hysterically. Boom! He’s a titan! And she’s a titan! Everyone’s a titan! (To be sung to the tune of "Everything is Awesome" from the LEGO movie) How did Character X become a titan? What motivates Character Y to betray humanity? Logistically, how are these human titans organized by brainless, man-eating lumps of flesh? And how did the Female Titan get from Wall Sina to the 57th Expedition without anyone noticing? Can she apparate? Are we actually inside the Wizarding World?

Attack on Titan might be meaningful if we saw actual characters. Instead... Eren has rage. Levi is tough. Erwin is cool. Armin is smart. Mikasa is so bland that she might erase herself. It is impossible to get swept up in their struggles, to feel any sort of pain when they are devoured, because they are as simple and lifeless as the Titans themselves. When a major twist happens, I have to remember who that character is (Christa…? She’s that chick who finds Jean’s horse, right? And Berthold? Have we ever seen him before? I think he might have said ‘Yes, sir’ somewhere during the battle against the Female Titan).

The anime has the same flaws, but it is freaking gorgeous. Sometimes their shots look like live action. Sometimes their shots look better than live action. So when everything in the anime goes to hell, just watch the pretty scenery. Not possible in the manga. On top of all the other flaws, it’s just sloppy. Compare Attack on Titan to, say, a volume by CLAMP. Warning: Attack on Titan will look like scribbles on a restaurant napkin.

Politics, experiments and flashbacks. These points sum up this volume.
I liked the change in the tone: not fighting titans but fighting government. And also there were some funny moments in this volume, which is a rare thing. But overall, this manga develops rather slowly and not getting answers to my questions is driving me insane.

I read this book via Kindle Unlimited.

Okay so Eren and Historia (previously known as Krista) are back with Captain Levi's group who have began to decipher what the current state of their world means. There is now speculation that Titans have the ability to turn humans into Titans, based on the fact they found Connie's mum turned, and it connects back with the giant Ape Titan. Minister Nick has also been murdered and the Interior Military Police now have it in for Eren and Krista. Levi has to keep them safe and there is growing unrest within the walls.

Basically this volume feels like its building and building towards something and what that something is I have literally no idea. I genuinely feel like I am no further in understanding this world as I was in volume one but I'm having a nice time regardless. I liked getting to see Mikasa back her badass role and getting to understand more about Historia's background and her sad past but why it's relevant to the current story, I still don't know.
