Those Who Hunt Wolves

~~~
The fate of nations and humanity as a whole revolves around the Blackout, United States most powerful and enigmatic weapon. When it's stolen by the last remaining Wolf it's up to the last three remaining members of a top secret faction to protect humankind from the dark side of technological espionage to hunt down the Wolf before its too late. But with the blurred lines between loyalty and greed who working for who and why?
Think Strikeback with an fusion of Nikita: Those Who Hunt Wolves was a fast paced page turner for me. Along with its gripping storyline and main character.
Trigger warning for descriptive violent scenes. There is a bit of science jargon but not deep enough to detract you from the storyline.
I enjoyed the diversity of the characters and their banter which was ranging from serious to funny. That balance between serious and humorous made things easier to digest.
The commentary about how the World Bank functions had me at the edge of my sit. I don't know how true that is.
That being said, greed, power, loyalty, violence, love, redemption, friendship, revenge are the themes that hold the storyline to give us a thrilling, unputdownable narrative
Fans of Robert Ludlum might enjoy this conspiracy thriller with a mix of science and deep feels.
Taylor Harrison’s Those Who Hunt Wolves is a pulse-pounding cyber-thriller built on betrayal, power, and the terrifying potential of unchecked technology. At the center is the Blackout—America’s most powerful secret weapon—now stolen by the last surviving Wolf, a super-soldier born of a classified military experiment.
Harrison crafts a brutal, tech-infused world filled with political intrigue, relentless action, and morally gray characters. It’s cinematic, blood-soaked, and relentlessly intense from start to finish. Those Who Hunt Wolves is a smart, savage debut that delivers on every page. If you like your thrillers sharp, fast, and full of fire, don’t miss this one.
This book is out of my comfort zone in many ways and that’s exactly why I decided to read it. The story revolves around the Blackout, a US government weapon, and how it’s stolen by a super-soldier (called a Wolf) created by a military experiment. The book is intriguing and powerful from the very first page.
There are many characters we get to know in a deep way, their mentality, realities and lives, this causing the story to have more impact and interest in the reader.
I enjoyed the jumps of perspectives and the different places and people I got to know by the adventures and travels of the characters, specially with Shepard Black. He is the most mysterious, handsome and focused character of them all and it’s amazing how we get to see his story little by little as the chaos unfolds.
This book talks about politics, war, murder, rape and other sensitive topics so just take that in consideration if you decide to read it.
Those who hunt wolves by Harrison Taylor📚
Those who hunt wolves was an action packed techno/political thriller that kept me on the edge till the end. I really enjoyed the concept of super soliders and the concept of them being compared to a pack of wolves. It was refreshing take on fighting evil with might.
The writing style was crisp and articulate and the tone was acerbic and cautionary. The plot was fast paced with a lot of twists and turns. The characters were dark and twisted. The action sequences were incredible to read and I could imagine this story as a cool film. The narration had me engaged throughout the story.
I felt like the theme of the book was don't judge anyone just by skimming the surface. There is so much more to people than what the eyes behold. I especially loved the twists at the end. It made the whole journey worth it. I'm not a huge fan of politics in books but the author with his deft touch made it palatable to me.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an adventurous action packed story.
When I started reading Those who hunt wolves, I noticed that from the start you get right into the action from the start, and throughout the book, that continues! There are a lot of fights going on which are described without much censor. It seems that every chapter has a twist of it’s own which keeps it interesting to keep reading!
Those who hunt wolves is written in a nice pace, sometimes things go fast as you’d expect in action-filled scenes, but there are also parts where it feels like you catch your breath and catch up for a bit; all in all the writing gave me a sense of “watching a movie.” For me it was quite comfortable to read a good amount of chapters at a time!
From the start you follow Shepherd, who at the time was an ex soldier of a secret service much like the FBI or CIA, except this group is more secretive. He’s hunting down a weapon called Blackout, but also special agents from the group, those agents are called Wolves!
The weapon is mentioned pretty early on in the book, but not described to what it is exactly, but it’s clear that there are multiple people and groups after it.
In the first few chapters it really took some paying attention to who is who, and to which faction they belong, but once you got the names remembered, it starts to become very interesting; there are a lot of twists and turns about who works for what faction, but also surprises about who (or what) some people turn out to be!
As you go through the book, you learn how all the people are connected, what the dreaded weapon is, but it’s also about word politics and how secret services operate. I enjoyed how the book combined genres as action, fantasy and science fiction together!
thanks metal rooster publishing for the review copy.
Very complex but very good. The author developed a great story involving super soldiers gone amok, or rather one amok and two others chasing after her. Would love to see more from Taylor Harrison.
An unconventional, dark tech-noir thriller with science fiction elements. Politicians create super-soldiers to enforce their will. An evil female villain, surprise twists and turns and impressive characters throughout the whole story keep you turning the pages. And action, lots of action. It will be interesting to see what the author delivers in the future.
Pin a freaking medal on me for finishing this one. I don't know what compelled me to do so, normally, I would have just added this to the "Did Not Finish" pile, but for some odd reason, I stubbornly kept reading this thing; I guess because the synopsis intrigued me and I thought it would be something cool; boy, was I mistaken.
This was an atrocious book. It was as if the writer wrote a first draft, ran it through spell check, then immediately published it, to hell with running it by an editor, huh? It was unpolished, disjointed, and shoddy. Character development is practically non-existent. The characters in this book are just names, you don't know much about them and since the writer doesn't bother to develop anyone, you don't really care about anybody. The writer also has a tendency to just toss names at you and you're not sure who they are or why they matter or if you should bother committing them to memory. The plot is just all over the place and bordering on nonsensical. There is a lot of dialogue in this book as if the writer seems to have an aversion to prose, so they fill the pages with characters running their mouths.
What is it about? You have some guys who are a part of some secret government group that steals all kinds technology that is dangerous to mankind and there are these people called Wolves who are are these super soldiers who are better, stronger, and faster than regular people; think Captain America. Anyway, they are trying to take out the strongest and most psycho Wolf and at the same time, reclaim something called the Blackout, a dangerous weapon. Honestly, I checked out early on and just did not care about any of this but as I said, I was stubborn and kept reading this tripe. Pacing was terrible, transitions were awful, the writer would just drop you into a scene out of nowhere. . . .yeah, this is my last book that I'll be reading from this writer.
☕ By the title, I kinda assumed that it's a fantasy book which will transport me into a world of wolves but the scenario is way too different. This is a blend of modern day techno thrill with a lot of action and adventure. It's been long that I read an action filled story and I was actually craving for it because it's so hard to write scenarios and also to make them as intriguing as possible because the readers are gonna read it and not watch as we do in movies. To my surprise it really turned out amazing, I was enchanted in a very different way and I couldn't really stop thinking of what will happen next.
.
.
Firstly, the backdrop and the concept is very unique, it's not interesting, it's also very entertaining and it will really race your heart at multiple places, it's a long read, like you will definitely need more than two sittings but you can't keep it out of your mind when you stop reading it. I will also say, the book has a bit of fantasy elements but one the hand it also explores a lot future possibilities.
.
.
The involvement of politics makes it obvious for the readers to pick some take aways from the book but only if they want to, I liked the thrill, the plotline, the action part and the smooth writing style that has the potential to make you wonder things, yes it's definitely gripping but you need to give yourself to it and just enjoy what's going.
.
.
The best thing, it's not too slow and it doesn't even feel rushed. It changes pace but it's definitely something that would wanted me to continue reading page after page. I will definitely recommend it, be ready for an adventure that will play with your mind.
This is a technological action thriller involving a secret weapon, the most powerful and enigmatic, called the Blackout, on which depends the fate of nations and the humanity. When it is stolen by the last remaining Wolf, a super-soldier created by a military experiment, it’s up to the three former members of a top-secret group formed to protect mankind from the dark side of technological espionage to hunt down the Wolf and get it back . . . before it’s too late.
The premises are intriguing, I love such crime thrillers involving a political connection and world safety at stake! The book opens up with a action scene where the protagonist burns down his predators by pre-rigging his own home and filling the water sprinklers with lighter fluid- how iconic!
This brilliant book spans three hundred pages and each one of them is full of a marvellous storyline, it's a real page-turner, full of fighting and violent scenes packed with slight humour. It's an action-packed fast-paced thriller that's no less than an amazing movie, but more than that. It's a captivating book, with great story-telling and the book cover is phenomenal, it's epic! This is a must read for all lovers of political thrillers!
If you judge a book by its cover, you'd be very confused to learn that wolves aren't actually the animal in the book, Those Who Hunt Wolves. Once I got past that confusion I was whisked away into a world where secret military assets roam the world, the most dangerous weapon has been stolen from the United States and no one is quite what they seem.
When it comes to thrillers I do not want to see the plot twist coming. I can say with absolute confidence that I did not see the majority of the plot twists coming in Those Who Hunt Wolves. This meant I wanted to consume the book as quickly as possible while being actively annoyed every time I was interrupted.
When I think of the book I think of a well crafted lasagna; if you pull each layer out individually they're yummy, but eaten together it’s an explosion of flavors. That is Those Who Hunt Wolves. Separately each character is multi-dimensional and enchanting but their stories are woven together so brilliantly that the story never loses steam and kept me turning page after page.
I received this book from the publisher in exchange of a review, these opinions are my own.
When the top secret United States weapon called Blackout gets stolen by a dangerous super-soldier called Wolf from the heavily guarded facility, ever person on the planet is in danger. Their only chance is called 7721 - a former secret group of experts against the technological espionage. And so the hunt for the Wolf begins.
If I had to describe this book in a word, it would be - action!
This was action-packed, fast-pasted thriller that really kept me at the edge of my seat! This wild ride of a book is packed with amazingly written action scenes, political intrigues and sci-fi elements which make it a real page-turner.
The writing style is dynamic and the story is very cinematic. I was picking the cast in my mind while reading this book 😁 Another reason why this book would make a great movie are the characters! Morally gray, maybe even darker, but you can’t help but like them and root for them. One of my favorite things were the dialogues full of banter and good dark humor.
If you’re looking for a book that will keep your attention and make your heart beat faster, this is the perfect choice!
A huge thank you to the author for sharing this book with me through Bookstagrammers.com!!
“Watching a pack of wolves on the hunt is quite elegant”
This sci-fi political thriller book was amazing !!!
A story of super soldiers with one task and one task alone, that makes them more bad people than good ones and the constant threat to their life !!!
It’s was an addicting read and a very intriguing one.
I felt compelled to see it through until the very end and I honestly couldn’t put the book down!!!
The action was constant and the narrative was fast-paced, something that I really appreciated!
These characters were so good to read about, both the morally grey and the evil ones. There were some of them I loved more than others (Shepard, Jonah and Barbara) and some of them were very crazy !!!
But that madness was somehow very cool to read !!!!
Despite me knowing that this makes me crazy first, I cannot deny that I really enjoy getting through this story and I’m very glad I had the chance to read it!
I picked this book up thinking it had wolves in it,oh boy was I wrong. But bright side is, no wolves get hunted (or hurt) in this book, so yeay!
After my initial disappointment about this book not having any wolves in it, I noticed
that this book was a political thriller, and it had me at the edge of my seat till the very end because it was sooooooooo unpredictable! There were so many twists and I didn't even see them until they hit me...
It had everything a thriller should have! I kept wondering if there really were secret military assets roaming among us! I finished this in one sitting (ok 2 sittings since I had to spend like 3h in the bath to finish this!)
Who stole the most dangerous weapon in the US military?  Who can we trust? Is anyone who they say they are?
This book, thought not a big one, packed in so much! And it wasn't even overwhelming nor did I have to try hard to get into it. Everything flowed smoothly like a well oiled machine. This is a book of which, if a movie was ever made, I would totally watch!
One of the most captivating books I've read recently was this one. I was engrossed in the book from the start to the very finish. I anticipated the book to be a fantasy that would put me in a fight with wolves and vampires based on the cover and title, but it ended up being something much better. The book is a political thriller with plenty of sci-fi and technology components as well as action, suspense, and unexpected turns.
The theft of a top-secret American weapon named Blackout is how the book begins.Wolf, a terrifying super-soldier, is suspected of committing the atrocity.A previous covert team of professionals called 7721 searches for the wolf (wrong hands) to save humanity.
The book is flawless in every way.Characters have been well-developed by the author.The book is flawless in every way. Characters have been well-developed by the author. The speed is appropriate, just fast enough to keep your interest. It has the potential to become a great movie.
When you see the cover of Those Who Hunts Wolves you think the story would be about werewolves in a fantasy world. But the story line change in a different way, when you find a story based in our actual world. Also, we could find a group of super soldiers genetic and military modificated who are called Wolves, that are involved in the mission to find the last remaining Wolf.
So, in this story the US govenment works a part very fundamental in te story, because it keeps a lot of secrets, those are going to discover little by little.
This story was enjoyable, and also, has a great impact on my confort zone, because I'm actually used to read more fantasy/romance stories.
Just to be clear, it’s important to tell that the story has a frequent use of bad words, violence, rape, gore/blood and murder.
Those who hunt wolves by Harrison Taylor.
This story revolves around Blackout the secret weapon that was created by the US government. It was stolen by the last set of super soldiers they called Wolves they were created for military experiments. The recapture machine was given to three former members of the top secret group that was formed to protect mankind.
Now It's all up to them. What are they going to do now? Do they retrieve the Blackout? What are the challenges they faced? How are they going to retrieve that? Read it and find out.
It was an amazing book to read. I felt like watching movie with a combination of action, drama, adventure, and thriller. This story was fast phased. Twist and turns were really good. It was a serious page turned. Once you started reading you can't keep it down.
I recommend this book to read. Happy reading.
Those Who Hunt Wolves by Harrison Taylor is one of those books! Here it is in a nutshell….
- complex characters who you can’t help but love (even though I shouldn’t)
- high action scenes that jump off the page, they had my heart pounding- full of awesome descriptions & brutality.
- perfect baddies that you really really loathe!
- super soldiers, politics, intrigue, twists & turns
This book is nonstop from the opening scene. I loved the entire dynamic of this book. It’s sci-fi meets thriller meets tech-noir. Completely unique & immersive. I highly recommend this one!
And can we just take a minute to look at that cover?!
When the ultimate weapon is stolen, the theives must be found and the weapon returned. The consquences are too disasterous to consider. The story has some clear divisions between the good guys and the bad guys that quickly become not so clear. The tension begins early and builds with each failed attempt at capturing the "wolf". Harrison Taylor built a world one step away from apocalypse and populated it with characters that push and pull until you're holding your breath at the end. Excellent thriller. 5 easy stars.
The premise of this book was very intriguing and I was expecting a really good story. Unfortunately, the plot got all jumbled up and I found it almost impossible to follow at times. I always felt like I started the book in the middle or something and if I just kept reading, all would be explained. It wasn't.
This is a book that first appealed to me because of the wolfeyes on the cover and then because of the title. It is not a story about wolves in the literal sense, but about super soldiers/bodyguards who are referred to as wolves and must be hunted. It's a story packed with action mixed into a political and technical universe, which might sound heavy to some of you, but oh no. The tension is high from the beginning, the dialogues contain humor and sometimes a little daring language (which helps to give it the right atmosphere), the action sequences are incredible described and the characters are just twisted. With a plot that is constantly changing, this book really is the recipe for a good thriller. A novel that I could easily see as a film. A novel where I would rather let you be surprised by the story itself than spell it out for you here.
If you are into a good sci-fi or action thriller, this is the book for you. No doubt about it.
