Thank you so much for your interest in reading the Davia Glenn series. The idea for this story began when I was a prosecuting attorney and a person I convicted, who made death threats against me, was being released from prison. My training with a former CIA operative led me to create my protagonist, Davia Glenn.

In Laura E. Akers's DIOR OR DIE, Davia Glen is a retired spy who inherits a great deal of money under some pretty exacting condition, which bring her to live among the quirky residents of a cloistered little community. Meeting the demands of her inheritance, Davia must juggle all shades of deadly-- too many men, neighborhood politics, and murderous thieves.

As much conflict derives from Davia exercising her patience as her corpse-creation skill set. It creates a sort of duck-out-of-water humor, and it makes both the story and characters approachable.

I enjoyed the first installment in the Davia Glenn series. It's an exciting thriller with a sassy, dangerous heroine and a fun, uncomplicated plot. It's a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

Sort of a cross between the Jack Reacher novels and Crazy Rich Asians.

I will never not like a book with a badass FMC. Davia is trained and lethal and nothing will get in her way. Except maybe some crazy socialites. This book was a lot of fun and combined action and mystery. Highly recommended!!

I loved this book, and I only had one issue with it. It was just a matter of me having to suspend my disbelief a little too much (living in one of the top 5 most expensive zip codes would be impossible with what she was left with yearly). Still, I quickly got over that because I figured I misunderstood something.

The gist of the story is that Davia needed to take some time from the very elite and vicious military organization she works with. Davia can do it all-shoot, hand-to-hand combat; nothing phases her until her Aunt dies and leaves her a ton of money. However, this money comes with stipulations, and that's how our story starts!

Sometimes funny, sometimes heart-pounding...in some places, it reminds me of a
Stephanie Plum novel One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, #1) by Janet Evanovich , only in this universe, Stephanie knows what to do with a gun!

I enjoyed the read and found that I couldn't put it down.

Thanks to the Author, BookSirens, and the publisher for my ARC.

"Take a break from being a warrior, you might find something you enjoy out there."

Davia Glenn is the only woman on her covert paramilitary team, that is until a mission going completely wrong and she ends up injured. During recovery she finds out her aunt, that she didn't have the best relationship with has passed away, and she's left her entire fortune to Davia, if she adheres to the conditions of the will. One of the conditions is she must live among the wealthy. As she does this she soon comes to find out all the crazy drama the wealthy hide, all while trying to avoid being assassinated since she on the top of a Terrorists hit list.

As Davia is torn between two possible loves and two possible lives that couldn't be more different, she must decide what the future holds....Dior? or Die?

▪︎ This book was given to me and exchange for an honest review thru @katieandbreypa and I loved every single minute of this wild ride! This book captivated and held my attention the entire way thru, and I loved how fantastic the MC is, and though there wasn't alot of in depth character development, the story line was fun to follow and flowed smoothly. I decided i really need to pick up for books like this! Thank you so much for sharing this story with me!

Book Review

⚜️ Book Title - Dior or Die
⚜️ Author - Laura E. Akers
⚜️ Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️
⚜️ Some Genre/Themes/Tropes: Adult Fiction, Action and Romance

I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book via Booksirens. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is my honest review.

I love a FMC who is capable of handling situations on their own. You can tell the author has done some research about different aspects throughout the book and it shows in their writing. So props to the author for that!

My reason this is a 3 not a 4 star, I felt the romance theme was not a focal point in the book like I thought it would be based on the blurb. So if you are looking for something romance heavy, you might be left a little disappointed. There was a love triangle but I thought the emotional connection to one of the characters was lacking because he were only in the story for a few pages. Time passes and the characters learn more about each other but the reader isn’t present during that phase and is to assume there is a blossoming romantic relationship between the FMC and MC. I wouldn’t even call him a MMC…

Also, there were a lot of characters introduced throughout the book and I couldn’t remember who was who half the time. This didn’t detract too much from the story.

I would recommend this book to others, not as a romance but more action recommendation.

I want to say thank you to the author, publisher and Booksirens for the ARC.

This book has clearly been review bombed by friends and family with positive reviews. It has extremely poor writing. The characters are flat and one dimensional. It reads like the fantasy of a middle aged woman who wishes they were rich. Do not recommend.

Dior or Die by Laura E. Akers is the promising start to a new series. Davia aka Bombshell is part of an elite special ops team. She’s left an inheritance from her not so favorite aunt. And it just happens to come at a perfect time while she’s recuperating from a mission gone wrong. But are the stipulations worth it? Fun ride with lots of action, mystery, and romance. Looking forward to more adventure with Davia! #TeamAdair

This book starts with a bang and never lets up! I really enjoyed the storyline, crossing between two worlds and the colorful descriptions of the characters and locale. I work full time and found myself reading during my lunch, and every spare minute at home. I would have to force myself to go to bed, because with all the action there really wasn’t a good place to stop! I can’t wait for the next adventure!!

As an avid reader of the Brad Thor, Alex Berenson genre,
I was delighted to read Dior or Die, a rapid fire adventure that kept me up much too late. It is an understatement to say how
Impressively Laura Akers juxtaposed two absolutely opposite worlds. Intertwining perilous foreign military ops with the uber wealthy community where she is compelled to live was genius. There are bullets , betrayal and beauty and that’s only for starters . I’m jonesing for Killing with Kindness, coming up.

Davia Glenn is a secret operative for the U.S. military and is the only woman on an all-male team, which means she's sort of a badass. When her wealthy aunt dies and leaves her fortune to Davia, her inheritance comes with a slew of odd requirements in order for Davia to retain use of the money. While Davia takes a year off to decide between a life riddled with bullets or a life studded in diamonds, she becomes the target of several assassins, each hired by a master criminal known as The Badger.

I had such high hopes for this novel!! The premise of it was really fresh and new and I was so excited when I received this as part of a goodreads giveaway. Unfortunately, the plot moved at almost a lightning speed in a lot of areas where I would've liked to see the characters/storyline more thought out.

For example, we only get 38 pages of Davia's life as a badass, half of which is just learning the types of training they had to go through. The mission that spurred Badger's hatred and revenge for the team was captured in 7 pages. I would've loved for this section to be more thorough, to fully understand the relationship the characters had to each other, why Davia thinks/acts the way she does, and allow for the romance that feels so sudden to the reader to blossom in a more natural way. According to the book, Davia and Warden had a burning passion for each other over the course of 3 years, but as the reader, I didn't really feel any of Davia's aching/longing for a man she wasn't supposed to even look at. This feeling of being rushed to just get to the next plot point was prevalent throughout the novel.

Despite the rushed feeling, the book was entertaining and humorous. The end was a bit of a surprise, but again, I have a lot of questions and it feels like a lot was just brushed over for the sake of getting through the story.

I wish the anticipation surrounding the two mysteries in the story had been built up a little more as well. The idea of the two crimes being connected somehow was so intriguing, but then they fell to the background and at the end, seemed more like an "oh crap I need to tie these up" moment when the culprits were revealed.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read. The sarcasm, funny thoughts, and relatable humor used made me actually laugh out loud at times. I did like to see Davia's recognition of her own bias against the wealthy as she connected with more people and made friends/acquaintances in the book. Not to mention, as I said above, the plot is one I've never heard of, which makes it refreshing in the world of action/thriller novels.

I notice it says "Davia Glenn #1" on the ebook...I'd be interested in reading a #2, but would like to feel slightly less rushed in some aspects of the novel.

From the very first page, "Dior or Die" grips you with a thrilling blend of suspense, humor, and high-stakes drama. Laura Akers has masterfully crafted a world where the opulence of wealth meets the peril of espionage, through the eyes of Davia Glenn, a protagonist as formidable as she is relatable. This first installment in the Davia Glenn series is a rollercoaster of emotions, action, and intrigue, making it a must-read for fans of both mystery and adventure genres.

Davia Glenn, once an integral part of a covert paramilitary team, finds her life taking a dramatic turn following a mission gone awry. Her sudden inheritance thrusts her into a world of luxury, far removed from the front lines where she's most comfortable. Yet, beneath the surface of her new affluent community, dangers lurk, challenging Davia's survival instincts in ways she never imagined. The narrative cleverly juxtaposes her combat skills with the absurdities of high society, weaving a story that is as humorous as it is thrilling.

The book is a testament to Akers' ability to create a character who embodies strength, intelligence, and vulnerability. Davia's journey is not just about dodging assassins or navigating the complexities of wealth; it's also a deep dive into self-discovery, loyalty, and love. The dynamics between Davia and the ensemble cast, including the two men vying for her heart, add layers of complexity and charm to the narrative.

What sets "Dior or Die" apart is its unique blend of genres. Fans of Jack Reacher's grit and Stephanie Plum's humor will find a new heroine in Davia Glenn. With close-quarters fight scenes, a fast-paced narrative, and a murder mystery to unravel, this book promises and delivers an unforgettable adventure.

For those who relish stories of empowered women, unexpected twists, and the thrill of the chase, "Dior or Die" is your next great read. It's an addicting, suspenseful mystery that's as fashionable as it is fierce. Highly recommended for a light, funny action-mystery that will keep you guessing—and laughing—until the very end. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

🧨This book is explosive! Right from the first page we are taken to the world of living and dying, happy and sad, romance and loneliness, and middle class to wealthy. Did I forget anything?

☄️Davia Glenn is on a covert military team with the government when she unexpectedly receives millions from an aunt. Her aunt has put conditions on the money, however. Davia has to move to a posh California neighborhood and immerse herself into the life of a well-to-do woman. She isn’t used to this so it is going to take some getting used to.

🔥As she begins living this new lifestyle she comes across constant danger and its as if we are in the middle of a video game dodging bullets with bad guys behind every corner. She won’t be allowed to live her new life like this. Her past enemy is going to hunt her down and haunt her until it can be eliminated.

💰Davia is dangerous, intelligent, beautiful and smart so with this comes the male interest! Or shall I say two? One lover is a military coworker and one is a newfound interest she stumbled upon when living in the fancy area of Rancho Suprema.

💃This book evokes all of the feels. I got to know the characters pretty well but would like to get to know them even better. I would like to know what’s in their head. At times I thought the danger was over for Davia but within seconds she was unsafe again. This fast-paced book is a thrill ride for anyone who wants a read that will keep them sitting there chapter after chapter wondering how the time slipped by so fast!

Thank you to Laura E. Akers for a copy of this book. I am so appreciative for the opportunity to read it.

I enjoyed this book. this is not my normal kind of book but I liked the blurb and having liked both Jack Reacher and Stephanie Plum I gave it ago. While I wouldn't say the story reminded me of either of them, it was more like the film Miss congeniality or even in same ways Jana DeLeon Miss Fortune series but more grown up (serious) I did enjoy it. I really liked the contrast between Davia's two worlds of being an operative and a rich socialite. There is a lot going on with trying to fit into the new world and taking care of hitmen after hitmen and although she doesn't really investigate she also discovers a mole in the organisation. So be prepared for action, a love interest and shopping. I am off to start the next book.
When a mission goes wrong Davia "the blonde bombshell" Glenn gets injured and other team mates get killed after a major leak, has her questioning her position in the team. Then news of her aunt's death arrives with the new that Davia is the sole heir to her millions the only problem is the inheritance comes with a few rules. Can Davia survive her hardest mission yet? Living the high life, shopping everyday, working for a charity and dating rich men? All while avoiding hitmen sent to take her out?
I liked the narrator. She did some interesting voices and even some accents to bring the characters to life.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

3.5 stars – Some minor issues but the bulk of the book engaging & full of action.
I thought the book got off to a rocky start; getting out the back story was a little awkward. Davia is the only woman in an elite military unit, her team leader Warner, goes from being an a__hole to a desired lover in a blink of an eye as the reader goes from her initiation to three years later in the same time frame. Suddenly, Davia is injured in an op, kisses her team leader, receives a substantial inheritance, and takes a year off to go and live in an exclusive town and play heiress. The team has a hit out on them, and a succession of bad guys come after her against the backdrop of organising the town's gala event. This was the bulk of the book, and it was page turning and enjoyable. The action was fast paced, it was easy to read, and it was full of engaging characters. Unfortunately, to many things were left hanging with no sufficient conclusion to the minor plot lines. And the pending love triangle between Davia, Warden and Adair could have been plumbed for more intrigue than what we got. I do hope Adair continues to be major character in the next outing in this series. I found myself being on TeamAdair more so than TeamWarden!

Where to start? Well I'll start with I absolutely loved this book. Davia is the first female on a covert paramilitary team, until something goes wrong and they're put on a terrorists hit list. When she then inherits a fortune, Davia has to decide which world she wants to live in.

Dior or Die had so many elements I love in a story, a badass FMC, who really takes no messing and is just as spectacular in boots or heels.  I loved how she threw herself wholeheartedly into each new situation, both in  the paramiliatery and civilian life. Her first foray into desinger shopping reminded me of those scenes from Pretty Woman. There is a delightful romance, with two gorgeous men vying for Davia's heart, personally I'd have been happy with either man for Davia as they were both strong characters. There was mystery and suspence. It really was all my ideals rolled up into one fantastic read of a book. It kept me hooked until the end with its unseen twists and turns and i had a late night finishing this enjoyable book, just because I wanted to see where it would lead. I would recomend this book to those who like romance, mystery and suspence

Quite simply, this book was a lot of fun!

Injured during a special ops mission, Davia takes time out and tries to meet the stipulations set by her deceased aunt in order to inherit her sizeable fortune. There are constant attempts to take her life by an enemy encountered during her time in special ops, and a decision to be made regarding two love interests (one a work colleague that we are briefly introduced to before Davia’s lifestyle changes pace drastically).

The storyline is fast-paced and witty and I feel the relationship element takes a backseat to all the action occurring on the page. Surprisingly (as a romance lover), I wasn’t concerned by this. The ending contains a HFN with no cliffhangers.

At the end, you are gifted the first chapter of book two and I have to say, I am hooked on this series. I cannot wait to read the next instalment! A solid 💛💛💛💛 for this debut from the author.

Dior or Die is available now for free on KU and we can expect the second book sometime in October.

What an interesting story! Davia, our main character, is a covert ops agent trailblazing her way through the ranks as the first female on her team. When her aunt passed away, Davia finds herself as an heiress to the fortune, with many strings attached. She must navigate the world of the filthy rich as a socialite, all while having a target on her back after a mole traded intel on her team and their identities.

I know nothing about the ins and outs of covert operations, but it definitely seemed like the author did her due diligence on the research front. The background and detail on the special ops side of the novel was really intricate and well done! As far as the characters, I was cheering on Davia the whole time, and I was honestly really amazed at how well her character adapted to civilian life (and wealthy civilian life at that!). The other supporting characters fell a little flat for me, but that didn’t distract from the story for me. I think this was a well written, fun, and intriguing novel, and I’m excited to see what else Laura E. Akers has in store for us!

I received a copy of this book from the author and KatieandBreyPA, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Davia Glenn is the first woman to join the elite group of warriors as an operative. She has to train harder and be better than her fellow warriors just to be accepted. It is after a particularly dangerous mission where both she and a fellow operative are shot, that she learns that her aunt has died and she has been left her entire, very huge, estate…with a few caveats. It is also after one of her fellow warriors kisses her. A definite no-no. She needs to take time away from the team to get her mind back on straight, and what better way than to try to live the life her aunt demanded in her will, the life of the rich and famous. Only trouble is that someone is after the members of her team and she has no one covering her back. How does a combat boot-wearing warrior turn herself into a diva? How does she fit into a life so foreign to her? How does she stay alive?

This book is explosive, it is entertaining, it is a fun book to read…I want to be Davia!! She kicks butt 😊 And I am so looking forward to the next book in the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this 1st book of what I hope is a series. Take a trained operative and toss her in a high society landscape. See her thrive as she keeps her former life quiet. Davia, was an interesting operative and due to an Aunt dying, she finds herself in a rich zip code, trying to figure out the ins and outs of the rich. Add in here people charged with killing her, being throw into chairing a silent auction with proving a theft of an auction item, figuring out who killed the chair of the gala and leaving a wake of bad guys behind her, this mystery was full of twists and turns. This book also introduced 3 possible love interests.

I can't wait for the next edition of Davia's life: high society or trained operative? Or does she need both in her life. Highly entertaining, finished in one sitting.

LOVED THIS BOOK! I give it a 10!

Davia is an awesome character! She’s torn between her life in Special Ops and a crazy huge inheritance that dropped into her lap. After an injury and a very brief dalliance, she decides to take a year and see how the ultra rich live. All the characters are super well drawn, and there are all sorts! Hot guys! High Society ladies! Assassins! Interior designers! Murderous Dowagers! Secret agents! Hair stylists! Penis light switches!

This book is funny, almost screwball with lots of intense action!

The writing is clear and the pace is perfect. I downloaded it at 8pm, took breaks to eat and walk my dog and just finished it! Couldn’t put it down! Give me a badass heroine anyday!
My favorite book so far this year!
I wanted to start the next book but it’s not out yet. Arrggh!

Davia Glenn: a savvy, very skilled special ops woman in an all male unit. She has worked hard to be part of the unit and for the most part has been excepted as an equal.

Things begin to change when an operation goes wrong and she is badly hurt. While recuperating she finds she is the heir to a very large fortune from a estranged upper class snooty Aunt. There are serious stipulations that come with the money. These stipulations are the polar opposite of anything she has experienced. Any short cuts with these stipulations render the money gone. Still healing and Always the hero, she agrees as she needs her parents and a good friend to have a better and easier life.

Of course, nothing is easy. She attempts to fit in to the world of opulent luxury and soon finds out she and her team are on someones hit list.

The book was fast pace, exciting and fun to read. Especially looking into a world of ridiculous wealth. However, why is it with the protagonist getting physical with a fellow ops? I mean, REALLY? In my reality, any woman who fights against the Good Ol Boy mentality would never jeopardize her hard earned reputation over sex. There was no reason for Davia to fall over stupid over a teammmate.

Action, upon action, upon action!

Davia, a strong FMC that works for an elite secret operative group, and doesn't shy away from anything will make for an interesting storyline that's for sure! After the death of her aunt, Davia comes into a significant inheritance that has strings attached. She chooses to step away from the operative life, to figure out her next step. Then the craziness happens.

I enjoyed that the book was fairly fast paced, always had something keeping your attention. Davia's internal monologue is funny, and I liked that her new lifestyle pulled her out of her comfort zone, and allowed her to see life from a different view.

I did feel as though there were far too many characters that were introduced early on that didn't really have much relevance to the story so they just kind of got lost. The non-stop action Davia lived through was a bit much, and somewhat unbelievable. The "romance" portions of the book felt a little forced, and probably weren't necessary.

I would recommend this book to others that enjoy action packed genres/movies, and appreciated the snippet of the next novel at the end of this one.

Fast paced fun and lighthearted story of Davia Glenn who is a fish out of water in several ways. First Davia is a woman competing in the male dominated paramilitary squad. As if that isn't enough stress and competition, she is then thrust into the super snobby world of the richest zip code in the US. Davia a common "Jane", is now forced to interact with the Uber Wealthy society. The cherry on top of all this is that she's being hunted down by a killer from her military life. There's no shortage of action and laughs as Davia tries to navigate her new life in the community while dodging bullets. This story had me from the get-go and I anxiously await the next novel in this series.
I was given this book through Book Sirens to read and review. That is no way influences my opinion.

Fast paced, action filled, with a badass, kickass, take names later FMC. I loved everything about this book! Davia was a great heroine and it was amusing to see her enter the high societal lifestyle. You can see just how uncomfortable it makes her, but still trying to make the best out of it even though she misses her team and one particular member of said team. As I was reading I could picture everything happening like an action movie in my head and I loved how descriptive it got. Also loved the little explanations for things I would have totally needed to look up in regards to anything military. Overall this was a great book, great writing, great pacing, and descriptive. Can't wait to see what else Davia Glenn gets in to.

When Davia is shot in the leg and soon fraternizing with her work colleague, Warden, she has a decision to make; but the news of an inheritance and a spy leak within the company makes the decision for her.

But her life is still in danger; and while her teammates are investigating the leak she is on her own and must use her skills to stay alive.

I loved this book! It had the right amount of action, danger, suspense and romance in all the right places. At times, I felt this narrative could have been split and followed the 'Cozy Crime' genre, but was pleased it picked back up and loved the main character as she was a badass!

Hearing that this will be a series definitely has me wanting more and I look forward to the next installment.

A regular customer at my work lent me her copy of Dior or Die. It's a little out of the wheelhouse for what I normally read so I put off reading it for several months. I read it in an afternoon the other week and it was an entertaining book!
Akers did a great job of keeping the pace steady and interesting! And I loved the different characters she introduced and the different personalities they all consistently had. Jose was amazing and the best groundskeeper. The book stayed interesting whether Glenn was in the middle of a firefight or getting her wardrobe entirely overhauled by a lovely gay man who slingshots a thong at her. It was a good book to get lost in and have fun with in an afternoon.

Just WOW! Davia Glenn is one heck of a feisty lady and warrior! She’s a one-man (one-woman?) disaster to anyone who comes after or against her. I can easily picture this book as a fabulous movie, with its non-stop action! The comical part is when Davia’s super wealthy aunt leaves her a fortune, including a few very detailed requirements to inherit the wealth! This is Davia at her most vulnerable - when required to spend millions on a mansion, dress in couture clothes and basically do the things the super wealthy matrons do! If you like action, with a little humor and romance, then this is the book for you. I received an ARC of this book and am writing this review voluntarily.
