Rogue Hunter: An Urban Fantasy Novel

Rate this book
My name is Marney and I am immortal.

I walk the night, hunting rogues, and keeping humanity safe. I work alone. I prefer it that way. Anyone who gets close to me ends up dead.

But when a hunt for a deadly rogue goes wrong, I'm forced to accept help. And that help comes from a man whose smoky good looks and easy charm begin to thaw my heart of ice.

There's only one problem. He's a vampire.

The sworn enemy of an immortal.

My duty tells me one thing, my heart another. Can I figure this out before the whole of London pays the price?

Rogue Hunter is an action-packed enemies-to-lovers urban fantasy with a kick-ass heroine, a hot-as-hell hero, and a host of characters you'll fall in love with. Delve into the world of the Immortals of London today.

3 stars is gorgeous

There was a lot of telling and not enough showing in this book. I have six examples from the first chapter alone but will leave these two here:

"Moving to the edge of the roof, I lightly jump down onto a balcony several feet below, pick the lock, disable the alarm, and slip into the apartment."

This just feels lackluster. It could have been written in a way that demonstrates her knowledge of lockpicking, her squatting down, pulling her kit from a bag or boot, talking about the complexity of this lock and how the owner had to have been an overly cautious individual to have not one but THREE locks on his door. That also would have given us more information about her past targets as well as this one. Instead we get another moment of telling, not showing where she states:

"A vampire lord gone rogue, he’s one of the most dangerous adversaries I could face. He’s left countless dead in his wake and thwarted all my attempts to corner him."

I'm shaking in my boots (that's sarcasm by the way). I just don't care because the author hasn't made me care. The same applies to the romance. I just am not a fan of insta-love.

I did enjoy the diversity of the characters and I thought there was a lot of potential for the plot but I personally won't be reading the second book.

Fun read

Kick ass hero, sexy love interest, and twists of betrayal. Sink your teeth into the adventures of the Rogue Hunter and you won't be disappointed. I loved the story, I think my only critique would be that even though through actions you can see the love interests care about Marnie, I don't feel like I know the guy yet. But, it's a series so I'm excited to find out more!

Loved Marney!

I loved the chemistry between Marney, Ciaran and Sam.
Marney was an immortal, Sam, a human/immortal/vampire hybrid, and Ciaran, a vampire, were hunting Hugh. Hugh, a vampire/immortal hybrid, wanted to to rule the world.
Thank you Ms. Baker for a great start to this series.

Quick easy read

Nice world building. A twist on vampire lore. Interesting twists and turns. Some foul language. A few graphic love scenes (on the subway…really?!?….ewww)

This book was very satisfying. Lots of action and good romance. Having said that, there could have been more fleshing out of the story. Coming in at approx 164 pgs is about half the size of a paperback.

This is book one of the Immortals of London series and the main character is Marney Stone, an Immortal and also a Hunter. She is hunting down a particular vampire, Hugh Montgomery, who is seemingly killing loads of people in London, but it in fact turning some of them to make his own little army. When she fails to catch him, her father, the head of the Council dealing with paranormal issues, makes her work with a new vampire, Ciaran Conner from Belfast. The council has her father an immortal, two humans and a vampire, working together to keep the paranormal hidden from the public, with the humans liaising between the council and the British government. Ciaran is an elite tracker, sent to London by the vampire Synod, due to the large number of recent killings. Now she must work with him to stop whatever it is that Hugh is up to. Their investigation soon leads them to find out that Hugh is involved with a long thought stamped out sect calling themselves The Church of the Prime. She prefers to work alone, especially since anyone who gets close to her gets dead or worse!
However, this hunt isn’t as easy or as simple as others she has been involved in and her attempts to act on her own, soon get her into more danger. She finds him attractive and very different from other vampires she has known, but he is also her kinds’ sworn enemy! The last time she lost her heart, her human boyfriend ended up severely injured by her out of control immortal powers and lost his mind. Now she is going to be trying to stop a powerful vampire, who believes in the Church of the Prime and the One, and is building an army that not even an Immortal can stop! She’s going to have to learn to trust Ciaran, as this is one case that she can win on her own! It involves the bones of the few immortals ever to be killed, which is no easy thing, and the power that someone wants from them, to pervert the normal rules of the paranormal world. So much more to come from the pair as they hunt down those paranormals who break the Treaty. Lots of new powers suddenly being discovered and combined in never before seen manners. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Marney and the Vampire . . .

Marney Stone is an immortal rogue hunter who is tasked with keeping humanity safe. She works alone so that no one else is put in danger. But when she needs help with a particularly deadly opponent, Hugh Montgomery, a vampire lord gone rogue who has once again escaped from her, she is not prepared for the charming man who is assigned to help her.

Lord Matthias of the Council had introduced her to Ciaran Connor from Belfast, an elite tracker with special skills for hunting rogues. When Marney shows them a necklace and amulet Hugh had been wearing, Matthias visibly reacted, getting very serious. Apparently rumors he had been aware of that a supposedly “dead” cult was active again are true.

Now Marney and Ciaran will need to partner together and find Hugh to determine how serious this is. Ciaran is different and charming. And while her heart wants to claim him, he is actually an enemy, a vampire, and loving him would be forbidden. Where does that leave her? Will she still accept his help and work with him? Or must she turn him away for her own good?
