Dark Side of Midnight

Rate this book
Now appearing for the first time together, three of Sidney Sheldon's number one bestselling novels—The Other Side of Midnight, Rage of Angels, and Bloodline—are featured in this celebratory collection.

The Other Side of Midnight is Sidney Sheldon at his best. This page-turner is full of tortured romantic entanglements, reverses of fortune, thrilling suspense, and ultimate justice. In Paris, Washington, and a fabulous villa in Greece, an innocent American becomes a bewildered, horror-stricken pawn in a game of vengeance and betrayal. She is Catherine Douglas, a woman caught in a web of four lives intertwined by passion as her handsome husband pursues an incredibly beautiful film star . . . and as Constantin Demeris, a legendary Greek tycoon, tightens the strands that control them all.

Rage of Angels features the memorable, mesmerizing heroine Jennifer Parker, a razor-sharp but beautiful attorney on her way up the New York political ladder until the Mafia's schemes win her the hatred of an implacable enemy—and a love more destructive than hate. She journeys into the dangerous, dramatic, and dark world of organized crime and flashbulb-lit courtrooms, where ambitious and ruthless prosecutors begin their climb to power, and she travels to her own personal hell and back again.

Bloodline is one of the best of Sheldon's blockbuster thrillers. Roffe and Sons is a family firm, an international empire filled with desperate, cash-hungry family members. At its head was one of the wealthiest men in the world—a man who has just died in a mysterious accident and left his daughter, Elizabeth, in control of the company. Now as this intelligent, tough, and gorgeous woman dares to save—not sell—Roffe and Sons, she will have to outwit those who secretly want her power . . . and the unknown assassin who wants her life. Bloodline is a sweeping novel of high financial intrigue on three continents, love, murder, danger, and suspense.

Sidney Sheldon (1917-2007) was an American writer who won awards in three careers—a Broadway playwright, a Hollywood TV and movie screenwriter, and a best-selling novelist.

His TV works spanned a twenty-year period during which he created I Dream of Jeannie (1965-70), Hart to Hart (1979-84), and The Patty Duke Show (1963-66), but it was not until after he turned 50 and began writing best-selling novels such as Master of the Game (1982), The Other Side of Midnight (1973) and Rage of Angels (1980) that he became most famous.

I happen to be a Sheldon fan but I do not like ALL his books. I am less interested in the action oriented ones and lean more toward the psychological.

These three books..all three..are among the best of Sheldon. If you want to fall in love with Sheldon at his BEST..read all of these masterpieces.

Bloodline maybe the best. That one is among my top 20 books ever. It is a masterpiece..a mixture of Historical Fiction, epic family saga and chilling murder mystery. It also has one of the best last sentences I have ever read in a book.

Other side of Midnight..well that one takes you to DC, to Greece, to New York..it is beguiling, full of love and passion and darkness and revenge.

Rage of Angels is about a smart and beautiful attorney and the Mafia leader obsessed with her.

All the books are amazing and they are a pure delight to read. Happily recommend all three!

Why don't they write books like this anymore. Sex, murder, glamour, bit of history tossed in, revenge...and all the things the creative writers don't teach anymore and editors no longer seem to buy: back story, adjectives, and a fast paced tale. Oh...and none of that tedious first person in the present tense.

Just a joy. A joy. Could not stop reading. Two women's lives are linked through the rotter. One goes on loving him despite it all, the other goes for the slow revenge as she jumps from producer to actor to Onassis type figure.

And it all ends in a courtroom drama.

I'm re-reading Sheldon with gusto because there is just so little out there as good as this now. Off to the next...

This is three books in one. I have just finished The Other Side of Midnight. I must admit that, at first, I wondered about this author. The characters seemed surreal. A woman obsessed with revenge. Another obsessed with the man the first woman wants revenge on. A man obsessed with himself. Everyone falls in love with the first woman and with this man. The men involved with the first women are all out for something themselves. Weird people. Unreal people. Conniving people. That is when it got good. When the characters all came together, everyone with his own selfish interests. And it is a mystery to the end to see who will be the top conniver. Excellent story.

Second was Rage of Angels. Again it seemed like a ho-hum story in the beginning. Young woman lawyer makes good in the world. Again we have a man obsessed with himself, but who attracts all the women. Only he is a capo in the mob. A senator, the Mafia, and the lawyer all merge at one point. Again, part way through the story I could not put the book down. It was no longer ho-hum. My only objection on this one was the ending. It could have stopped one chapter earlier. The last chapter did not add to the story and omitted a lot.

The Third was Bloodline. A family business being sabotaged by someone in the upper circles. Sheldon spends a lot of time getting the reader into his characters. This one had so many selfish people all wanting a piece of the pie and all seemed capable of murder to get it. And, yes, someone was trying to murder the president of the company because she would not let the shares of the company go public. They could not be sold. Some very interesting twists in this story. My husband's dinner was late because I just had to finish this book to see "whodunit."

I am thinking I would like to read Sheldon's own biography to know how he comes up with such loser type characters. The more I read, the more I liked.

Haven't read Rage of angels but Bloodline was the first Sidney Sheldon book I read so it is very special to me! The other Side of Midnight and it's sequel or prequel(i get confused unless i read the description on the back cover) are one of the most famous books by Sidney Sheldon and the plot is marvelous!! Love, money, revenge and suspense- a glorious mix depicting different shades of mankind that has been intricately weaved by the mastermind! It is a wonderful series to read!
After readin these 3 books i was insanely in love with Sheldon's work! It is worth the read!

This story follows the lives of two women, beautiful, cunning actress Noelle Page, and smart Catherine Alexander. Though both are on very different tracks, their lives eventually connect. This is a suspenseful page turner. Though it was first published in 1973, it’s still as good today as it was back then. Read more reviews at http://readinginthegarden.blogspot.com

Such a good book that it turned out to be the second time I read it!

One of the character's seemed familiar to me, but I was fascinated. As I got toward the end, I started thinking that I knew how it ended, which I did. Turns out, I had read this in the 70s.

Enjoyed it then, enjoyed it this time!
