Kimani and Jade have been friends since middle school. They're an unlikely pairing nonetheless. Jade is the cliche popular girl in school complete with cheer squad enrollment and an A List boy on her arm at all times. Kimani is the nerd-jock whose love for science competes with her love for sports, most importantly surfing. Nevertheless, their friendship continues to maintain and evolve as the years go by. Every birthday they take turns answering a single if you could do anything at this moment...what would it be? As the years go by each answer reveals more on their growth and changes as they grow up as well as the possibility that they may have something much deeper than a simple friendship.
This book was just so frustratingly sweet. For as long as it takes to go through the years of their lives, it was necessary for how the story is laid out. Two twelve year olds meet and become fast friends. But as their friendship grows so does other feelings. As they navigate through their lives, do they start to see what everyone else has already seen. Terrific Read!
A genuinely enjoyable read, I loved this novel from the first through to the last page. I have commented on other reviews how I dislike insta-love, well this is the polar opposite where you and all the supporting characters in the book know what the two m/cs will not accept. The story is sweet and frustrating in turns and the pacing is just right. A great read and one I have no hesitation in recommending.
