One man’s prison is another man’s fortress. Alan grew up believing that justice was as simple as throwing criminals in jail. He also grew up believing there was no such thing as a shadow with a mind of its own. A special request to put his photographic talents to use for an interview at the local prison reveals a dark plan brewing there. To stop it and keep his family safe, he may have to form some uneasy alliances.
If you enjoyed the first book in the series, then you will certainly enjoy this one. A bit more mystical than the last book and the plot was a little forced. Nice easy read and I shall be looking forward to reading the final adventure to see how everything will be resolved.
What a unique and intriguing story! Follow Alan and Blot on a dark adventure to save lives. So many twists and turns, but Alan's solid personal compass guides them through this action-packed story, with a few life lessons dropped along the way. A darker story than the previous book, with higher stakes and more involvement from the other mysterious entities of this world. There is certainly more to be told in this world and I am eager to read the next installment.
This is a well written book, by a really good author. However, I give out only 3 stars due to the concept that it isn't my style of novel. This is best suited for younger readers in my opinion.
Protection of the family he loves is difficult when the invading enemy is so difficult to see, he is doing the best he can. Keeping score of who's won and who lost is also complicated by their hidden nature, yet the ear continues.
A clever idea that made me smile. This book was longer than the first one, which was a very good thing. Sometimes I think the plot - Blot's people want to take over the world, Alan wants to stop that - is of secondary importance to the good fun of how Alan and Blot manage to work things out, with this book being a little darker than the first one. No spoilers, but Alan had better keep the good coffee coming! I like novels that are unusual, clever, and ones that manage to make me smile are often the particularly clever ones. It is, on the face of it, a little simplistically written, but rather that than a pretentious book. It serves to show what an ordinary guy Alan is until Blot arrives, and that although it has changed him, he is fundamentally the same, ordinary person.
OK, first my negative comment: It's written on a Fifth Grade level. The story itself is worthy of more respect. That is my ONLY negative comment because the story, plot, action, and characters are exceptionally original. It was fun and worth time spent.
