Rate this book
Simon has to dress in drag for a party and doesn’t have a clue what to wear. When the man in the costume shop helps him select an Indian princess dress, complete with braids, Simon’s unaware that he isn’t a salesman, but another guest looking for a costume, too.

Charles has decided to fulfill a childhood dream and be a cowboy, if only for a night. One look at the handsome Asian man searching through the racks of evening gowns gives Charles an idea, and working quickly, he puts his plan in motion. Now, he’s got an Indian maiden to join him in his fantasy.

But can a desperado capture the princess’s heart? In this classic childhood battle, who will win?

I’m from New Orleans, that’s N’awlins for those of you who speak the language. I grew up in the Riverbend, or Carrollton, for the old timers, but was a Quarter rat from the age of 11, taking 3 buses to go to art class on Burgundy Street at the Cabrini Doll Museum and NORD center. I attended University of New Orleans and have a BA in Fine Art. My mother worked at Tulane University, six blocks from our house and when we were kids my brother and I parked cars in our driveway for the Saints games at Tulane Stadium. We could get six cars down the drive, two on the front lawn, and two on the street and we only charged $2 a car. We made enough to buy a coupla roast beef po’boys at Comeaux’s on Hickory St. and a snowball over at Williams Snow Ball Stand. We lived 1/2 a block from a cemetery, but doesn’t everyone in N’awlins? We used to watch jazz funerals from our front porch.

Now, my family lives in Katy, Texas. I have a “real” job, a truly supportive and understanding husband, two incredible kids, and a slightly neurotic dog. We used to have a guinea pig, but the dog killed it. Did I say slightly?

My son is 15 and has Asperger’s Syndrome (high functioning Autism) and Crohn’s Disease, and is a constant lesson in patience, acceptance and managing expectations. He’s super smart, loves video games, fencing, movies, building with legos, and hanging around the house. Like me, he believes that it’s all about him. Sometimes, I wonder if I don’t have Asperger’s, too. Oh, and he’s very handsome.

My daughter, 13, is so creative it’s scary- she loves to paint, draw manga and anima, build dioramas with any box she can get her hands on, create worlds with legos and then make movies with them, sculpt people, animals and objects with those little twist ties from the grocery store, does pottery, and wants to be a lifeguard. And she’s smart, too. And
beautiful, inside and out.

I write for a few hours in the evenings and on weekends as much as I can, without neglecting my family. (That laughter you hear is my husband) I attend a critique group, and do whatever the kids are into at the time.

Somewhat of a departure for L Lorenz. Rather than focus on the relationship building per her usual style, this is a sex romp for 95% of the book. Mostly role play with an astonishing amount of climaxes between these men during a 12-18 hour period of marathon monkey sex. They do enjoy themselves...alot!

Fans of guyliner will love the costumes and makeup. Simon does not usually wear make-up but after his forced experiment in drag he can see the merit. Fans of cowboys won't be convinced in this book that Charles is anything but playing a role though. The banter back and forth was fun to read and the characters were likeable it was just hard to tell that since there was no chance to get to know them at all.

Who didn't play cowboys and Indians when you were younger? Or, for that matter, want to be a cowboy? I sure did. This super fun short story from Lynn Lorenz is all about stepping outside your comfort zone and transforming yourself. Charles always wanted to be a cowboy, although flaunting himself in chaps is a new thrill, but Simon never imagined how it would feel to put makeup on and wear a dress.

Simon manages a small, but well known, hotel in the French Quarter for his boss, Francis. Francis is throwing a costume party, Stag or Drag, and each invitation announces which you are to dress as. Simon, of course, gets Drag, while Charles gets Stag. Simon has no clue that the gorgeous guy who picked out the Pocahontas costume for him at the store is going to be in attendance at the party as a guest, no less. It doesn't take Charles long to make his move once he sees Simon at the party. Maybe fifteen minutes to introduce himself, announce his intentions, and he and Simon are on their way to an empty room to fulfill each of their desires.

This is a cute story with a lot of sex and fantasy scenes. Neither Charles nor Simon ever believed in love at first sight, but one magical costume party later and they're both believers. If you want to read something fun with no drama, only sexiness, then this might be the read for you.

This novella is a nice romp, funny, light and sexy. Simon and Charles are two average gay men, average like their jobs and their names: Simon is an hotel manager and Charles a wine distributor; no dangerous or risky jobs for them, no chances at all. And usually they are not even daring at love, being those men that at clubs stay in the shadow, that yes, they can find company if they want, but there is no passion or love at first sight. As they don’t dare at work they don’t dare at love. But like a gay guardian angel, Francis, Simon’s boss, unwittingly gives them an help: he throws a masked ball, where people have to dress as stags or drags, and Simon is chosen to be in drags while Charles will be a stag.

Simon and Charles have never met before, but they both go to the same shop to find the perfect costume. When Charles sees Simon an idea struck him, to fulfil his childish daydream to play a naughty version of Cowboys and Indians, with Simon playing the role of the Native American Princess. Even if Charles at first plays with Simon not telling him that they will be at the same party, it’s not the “secret” the turning point of the story, and there is no complain in Simon when he finds out: both men are ready and willing to play, and the main focus of the story is to be able for them to let the children in them go out to play.

It’s not that Simon and Charles are boring or aloof, they are only not daring enough to wear out how they feel inside, and the masks will help them to do exactly that. Beneath the costumes and the make up, the real Simon and Charles are able to come out, the masquerade helps them to be plainly exposed. After this night, maybe Simon and Charles will also be able to retain a bit of that courage, and if to do that they need a little help, like eyeliner to remember the naughty Native American Princess, well it will be a small price to pay to find happiness.

Totally sweet angst free story with tons of sex.
Simon needs a dress because he has to go to a costume party in drag!
He meets a very sexy guy who helps him pick out the perfect outfit. It turns out Charles, the man from the store is going to the same party and wants to be a cowboy.
They hookup at the party and have a bit of fun role play and have sex, sex and some more sex ...there is a short epilogue that shows a it of their HEA!

There's about 10 pages of interaction, 20 pages of reading about them pimpin' in front of the mirror, and 70 pages of sex. Whole thing was sex, sex, sex, and while Lorenz's writing is good, it's not good enough for me to overlook the whole Porn With Very Little Plot thing.

Not my cup of tea, but it could be yours if you want something p0rny.

This is a cute, sexy novella that I found a bit of a departure from the books I'm used to reading from Lynn Lorenz. The story focuses on two strangers meeting in a costume shop and coincidentally having invitations to the same party. Simon thinks Charles is an employee just there to help him choose a dress for his Drag costume. In reality Charles is there looking for a Cowboy costume for the party. When Simon leaves with a Native American Princess outfit Charles can't wait to play 'Cowboys and Indians' with him later on.

When they see each other at the party it's pretty obvious right away that they are really attracted to each other. After a bit the guys head to a room in the hotel and they have hot 'role-playing' sex all night long. The major focus of the story is sexual which is different from the well developed characters and relationships I'm used to reading from this author. Not bad just different.

Overall this is a fun uncomplicated read. No angst or problems between the protags, just two guys meeting and getting it on. It's obvious they develop feelings for each other and the epilogue does show them together a bit later on so there is a HEA for Simon and Charles. This sexy fun story was a good way to start off my New Year.

For some reason, when I chose this book to read, I thought it was a cozy mystery.

I was wrong. It's erotica.

It took me a while to figure this out. The book opens in a costume store with a gay man picking out a dress to wear to a party given by his boss, who has told him to dress in drag, not stag. The background is New Orleans, not the Texas plains like I thought it would be.

Okay, he's gay, he's not a cowboy, maybe he's the one that a cowboy murders.

That doesn't happen. He dresses as Pocahontas, looks good, and at the party runs into a man dressed as a cowboy, in a stag way.

The two of them end up in a luxurious hotel room and spend the night very erotically.

I kept on reading, thinking that murder would occur at some point. Maybe someone anti-gay would burst into the room with a shotgun. Maybe the cowboy's toy pistols would turn out to be real. Maybe the hotel's lotion in the bathroom would turn out to be poisonous. Maybe at the end of a passionate night, the cowboy would kill Pocahontas so he'd never repeat the night with anyone else.

That didn't happen. They finally fell asleep, and fell in love.

They do argue about some things, though. In the Epilogue, they've been living together several months, and they are preparing for another party. They're angry and arguing.

The argument is: Whose turn is it to be the cowboy, and who gets to be Pocahontas?

The main plot premise was adorable. I think I'd have liked more focus on plot than how it turned into one really long sex scene. I've enjoyed a few of Lynn Lorenz's stories before, but this one was at best a 2.5-star read for me.

Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for such a protracted sex scene over the Thanksgiving holiday. Also, I took a ridiculously long time finishing a fairly short story. :-( Distractable reader was easily distracted.

Yep, what other reviews say -- it starts out interesting (a guy who has no interest in cross-dressing is invited to a drag or stag party by his boss... and told he was to come in drag) but most of the book is one long sex scene, with a brief epilogue set a month later.

Want smut? Go for it. Want character development or romance? Not here.
