Well-written book that tugged on all the heart strings--sadness, family, love, forgiveness, joy.
The kind of book you want to crawl into and then hope will become a series so you can hear more about your new friends, their siblings, and even the pets.

Twelve-year-old Carabelle looks forward to spending the summer with her best friend, Gracie. A tragic accident tears Carabelle from her home. She finds herself trapped in a foster home with the school bully, Drake Duff, and becomes a prisoner to her own bitterness and anger. The only thing that can set her free is the power of forgiveness. And the only way to find it is by exploring some hard, painful truths that will tie her to Drake forever.

As a foster parent for many children and for many years, I could identify with the characters. "Unthinkable questions bounced in her brain like ping pongs balls." That one sentence summed up a lot of the book. A foster child is taken from their home and placed in a strange home. In the case of Carabelle, it's a greater tragedy. She grieves the loss of her mom and her home. Incorporating Christianity into the books makes it so much better. Only through Christ can one find total peace, that comes through forgiveness.

This is a very good book, one I highly recommend. It helps the reader understand (a little) about the approximate 400,000 children who are in foster care. Great Read.

Carabelle is a beautiful middle-grade story about forgiveness. There are so many wonderful messages within this story, such as the danger of making assumptions. This book is a great reminder to readers that we have no way of knowing what is really going on in someone’s life or understand the reason behind someone’s actions. I especially loved how the story showed that the act of forgiveness has the power to free and heal no matter how horrible a situation.
The last day of school finds Carabelle looking forward to a lazy summer of hanging out at the pool with her best friend – three blissful months far away from the school bully. But a tragic event turns her world upside down, leaving her feeling abandoned and alone. Through interactions with some surprising individuals, Carabelle finds that she can overcome her tragedy and that even in the darkest of times, there is good in the world.

What a nice story to read to your kids

I enjoyed reading this book to my kids. It is a story of loss, anger, forgiveness, friendship, and faith. God is great and He heals our brokenness. Carabelle was forgiving and loving.
