An ancient evil rises. An army from the depths of hell comes with her. In the heavens above, a seraph with more ambition than the heavens can contain is coming to confront her. The Sacred Seas have become a playground for forces beyond their power to contend with. In the war between the Heavens and the Hells, only one man can stand for humanity. But Darren is a keen sword forged in Hell. Growing up fighting demons for as long as he could remember, he is a naked blade that cuts down all in his path. This paladin of the sword must become a shield to guard what he holds dear. Now the King of Limedeep and with new friends to protect, Darren must learn to protect what he holds dear. And he'd best learn fast, for both the heavens and the hells are whispering his name.
Still diggin' this series. The fighting is so effing good. Darren really grew up in a Hell... learning how to overcome truly overwhelming odds. Dude's badass and good people.
This is the continuation of the Paladin of the Sword, by the same author. I feel that this second book, every fight, every encounter, every sensual liaison lasts a bit too long, as if the author is artificially filling each story too long. So the main character, Darren, is looking for the murderers of his mother and the being that ordered her death. He already has all of the details, but yet, instead of going and finishing the main plot arc, the main character hoards gold, clothing, weapons, artifacts, etc. all of the time (even if they aren't useful or important). Sasha the Paladin, was sent to the Trade Union, but main character needed to also go, to return Amelia (orphan girl that Clarissa found) so they go afterwards and not together. I feel that since everything is taking longer, it all becomes Pyrrhic, tortuous and boring. The via cruxis (torture/pained path) that the author imagined for the Order of the Roses is just a little too much gore, torture, mutilation and death. There is no point to completing the quests of the seraphims of this novel, because in the end, the endgame for those seraphims is to kill off the "loyal and good" paladins and adepts and protect the corrupted and depraved ones. You have to have a very dark soul, very little ethical values, to create a fantasy world, a dystopia, that is worse by a lot than the world we live in today. Of all the multiverse of possibilities, to create an evil place, filled with evil people, makes it more an erotic terror story than a fantasy action one. Promoting evil, stressing the destruction/corruption of the good, as a new creation, is like the cult followers of this story, they want this world to end (and apparently so does the author) so the hell with it, kill everybody, maim everyone, especially the victims and the good people for the bad, will strengthen the hell on earth for everyone. Author prioritizes the sexual positions and adventures of the main character than to stop the corruption/depravity and destruction of this world (by the bad seraphims, by the demon lords, by the bad nobles and kings). Another worrying thing is like, they go from killing the whole paladin team (Roses) to having a four-some like the lives, carnage, maiming, don't matter.
I really enjoy the characters, fantasy world and story in this series. It's definitely one of the better haremlit series i've read, with a lot of world building, and fleshing out of the characters. I only have two complaints, but they really didn't detract from my enjoyment much. The first is that i noticed of the trope that it's understood all girls in a harem are bisexual. One or two harem girls who are straight, and only want to be with the MC would be welcome once in a while.
Secondly, are you trying to tell me that Darren was 2 people in two different places for fucking weeks, and none of his girls picked up on that? Like didn't Cassandra wonder for a minute how Darren can defeat two hordes and become leader of the city while pretty much never leaving her side, and never leaving that ship? That seemed unlikely.
I will add more later to this review but I'm tired right now. All I can say is that this was way more fun to read than I expected, since the first had some glaring issues that bothered me a lot. The only thing is, they made the MC a bit more dumb, but it somehow works, a little too well.
Story was really good until cloning was introduced
I was really enjoying this book like the first one until the author made a goofy mistake. The mythic book Darren wins allows him to clone himself so he doesn't die. Paladins in every game I have played get a self resurrection ability and some games allow them to bring back allies as in raids. That ability to ressurect after death would have gave the same ending and wouldn't have annoyed readers to have to keep up with two of the same hero.
Seems like several of the new authors that write in this category think readers like characters who have multiple bodies or personalities. They do not, and often it ruins the overall story the book could have been.
Also Darren saved Sasha but then the author goes back to show us how she needed saving. That was a waste of a chapter when we already know the outcome.
Hopefully the next book will be more like the first with the paladin being able to use ressurection instead of cloning like some cheap sci-fi novel.
I read the second book and the story advanced as expected. Darren finds out how certain processes to promote people to a new level and might have found an allies in the mists of seraphim.
Morgana and Casandra are still being present but are more background characters because the focus is on Sasha.
I still do not like Casandra‘s character. Somehow it rub’s me the wrong way.
I have been enjoying this series so far. Not to happy with the new mythic skill. I hate when abilities like those find there way into stories. And it bothered me enough to knock off a star. But other than that the book was a ton of fun and I plan to get the next one.
Okay, the first book was phenomenal but had quirks that annoyed me. This book was much better. Although Morgana was still kinda overcooking my grits by shouting things in public that should be secret it didn’t happen that much. Also, king bogo 🤣😂 and Simon lol. I was literally in tears. Sasha though, was very stressful this book but I’m very glad that sorted itself out. I’m curious if Bonnie and blossom and now Audrey will join the harem? 🤔🤷🏽♂️. Then there’s his pocket seraph. All in all this book was miles better than the first and I was very pleased. Darren as a whole is doing pretty good with development. His mom still makes me sad though. Especially the end of the book really got to me. The whole ordeal with the order of the leaf was hilarious as well. The humor in this book is spot on. I can’t wait to start the third book! Onward lads!
OP MC check. Good vs evil Check. A mysterious third choice, awesome. The MC Darren is a good guy period. He is also extremely OP. This is good as he is definitely playing against a stacked deck. However he is learning all sorts of new things and abilities. Enough to make a new power on the world. One that is sorely needed as humans are just pawns and fodder for bigger players. But Darren is there to help and protect them plus make them stronger. This book was great and very long with plenty of awesome a$$ kicking mostly demon. There is some Harem elements but they are minor points and little book time on it in and detail. So far I've thoroughly enjoyed this series and really can't wait for the next book.
the story continues of Darren are Paladin showing Progressive cultivation becoming stronger. all the other characters are showing improving strength and abilities fighting the demons and building the world more and more interesting. there's lots of drama there's some good backgrounds of some of the characters as well as interaction between all the characters. in this part of the story learn more about Darren's background and where it might lead. there is a couple of spicy scenes in it but the predominantly it is a well-told story. can't wait for the next book.
Okay, I definitely see why it took so long for book two to come out and it was well worth the wait!!! I expected nothing less then a fantastic story and was not disappointed!!! Character development was perfect as was the world development. Love the flow of the story and everything we've learned about heaven and hell's war. Thank you for such a fun, entertaining and engaging story!!!
It's rare when the second book seems better than the first. I enjoyed the side characters better than some of the main ones. However I liked that the MC doesn't try to hog all the abilities to himself and shares. I also enjoy stories that have a light hearted feel to them and even with all the darkness the MC pushes through, the author puts in touches of humour. Roll on book 3 please.
4.5 overall. I enjoyed it and it held my attention, so that'll get you at least a 4. This did a bit better, though not quite a 5. The MC is refreshingly no-nonsense, but fighting the very forces of Hell from an early age will do that, I guess. Some of his naiveté is wearing off with exposure to the wider world, but him hauling people up short with straightforward answers is often amusing. I look forward to book 3.
I don't know what it is, but I'm really enjoying this series. There were a few times that I think I spotted a plothole. But I could be wrong, and I don't feel like digging in to confirm.
A strong follow up to a surprise story. With as powerful as Darren has become, he still is outranked by the big hitters of the hells and heavens. My only minor "complaint" is the women could use a bit more standing on their own vs just being there for Darren's attention. Looking forward to getting more adventures with the next book.
Darren was much more driven in this book. He was also far less gullible. The fights were clear and descriptive and the time constraints on the legendary power from the first book were actually used to enhance the weight of responsibility Darren had to deal with. Overall a great success.
Extremely few errors on par with the greats! Excellent work, compelling plot with a great flow to the story! Now, harem is not for everyone, but it's in good moderation here. Honestly, if you aren't into the harem stuff it is easily skipped. I personally don't mind it, and truly am loving the story! Thank You Marvin!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun from the first page. It was hard to put down once I started reading. The story and characters continue to be interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth reading.
I just finished book 3. I was reading every chance I could get to see what happened next. Darren gets the job done. Its only been two so far that can out match him in fighting skills. I like how he made all the women stronger too. So it's not him fighting and protecting everyone.
The format of the story is largely unchanged in the second book. It is, however, a bit better written than the first and explores a great deal more of the world as well as unraveling some of it's greater mysteries. It's still a little contrived, but largely a good book
I’m not sure what changed, but the storytelling significantly improved since first volume. The author had one big brainfart towards the end when characters forget a ship they boarded 15 pages previously, but that’s about it. Darren continues to be way ahead of the power curve except against the strongest possible opponents, but the story was still very entertaining.
So I went into this with some trepidation. But this thing just took off at a full gallop and never stopped. The humor, the characters, the strange situations, it was all perfectly balanced. I can not wait for book three.
Great progress over all on the party management and the progression of new characters, I can’t wait to see what steps Darren and his followers take next and more on Darren’s back story.
First off the first book was 500 pages. The 2nd book was *CLAP*800*CLAP*Pages! This was a damn good book. Great character development, just go an read it.
I have spent four days reading the first two books in this series all told six hours of sleep you cannot put these books down they are great I cannot wait to see what happens next
I really enjoyed this book it had the perfect balance of adventure, fighting and more. I can't wait for the next one. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be drawn into a story.
These are about as good as the ‘invincible god-warrior harem’ novels get. MC isn’t a sadistic, self-righteous asshole, for one. The trick to these particular books, which are huge, is to skim ahead whenever you start to get bored. There’s always plenty more and a lot of it’s pretty decent.
This is a great series but the proofreading could have been more through. Examples include incorrect pronouns, MC is in a alley but strums his fingers on the desk, text is duplicated from one paragraph into the next one.
This book and the last were fantastic. I loved every second of them both and am excited to read the third one. I hope it has many books so that I can enjoy more of the story with these awesome characters
