Oof. While I like the idea of what the Weissers were attempting here, in a genre that's, to say the least, difficult, the outcome is problematic -- the book design and layout is brain-deadening, there seems to be no selectivity in terms of the entries, and there was apparently no attempt to proofread or edit the work, which leads to some catastrophic stumbles in the text. The best way to approach this book, frankly, is to work through it to the various text pieces and pictorial entries, and then just flip back and forth rather randomly to the film entries.
The subject matter may not be to most readers liking but as a film buff and fan of Asian Cinema this massive tome of Japanese Sex Film reviews most likely is the authority on the subject matter. Maybe a newer book has come out since but the Weissers have pretty much been covering the obscure and cult/horror/exploitation/action genres of Asian films in their zone/magazine and various books 📚 they have published. I highly recommend all their books as great starting points for the various genres in Asian cult films studies.
