I grew up wondering how she could leave us? My older brothers never blamed me, but I’ve blamed myself. So much so I never asked questions when I was thrown into the family business. Then I had my little girl. I thought I could take a vacation from being a Di Lorenzo.
However, my selfish wife has ensured my return to the life. I will no longer be able to remain an outsider to what my brothers and I have been handed.
Lizzy The Di Lorenzo’s have secrets. I know a lot about having those. When Gio Di Lorenzo hired me five years ago, I knew those secrets would come out. His younger brother Dante doesn’t know who I am and now I’m stepping into shoes I never thought I’d fill.
When this becomes personal, all thoughts of keeping my secrets go out the window. In the blink of an eye, I become who I was created to be.
Will the truth tear everything apart? Will there be one secret too many? Or will it all go according to plan in this unexpected love?

The frumpy unattractive black woman with the sexy & suave white man is played out!!!!! I've read many of this author's books & I like her style but I'm over this trope. Why must every black woman lead be deeply insecure? If you're 10 books in & you never deviate from this, it starts to feel like projection. There are many obstacles in new relationship especially interracial ones but the bw inferiority complex has to be a plot point every time. I can't be the only one that notices this. Everyone around the heroine is drop dead gorgeous but not her. Nobody is checking for her, she hasn't had a man in years. This fine man is willing to look pass her looking like the elephant man apparently because she's such a good person. Enough!!! Self loathing isn't a personality. Bw can be pretty & good people. Its not one or the other. The shy awkward self conscious black girl is a trope that needs a rest. It's interesting because the WORLD tries to mimic "black cool" but these women never have an ounce of it. They're basically white women with big butts & the occasional braids. That's as close as they get to any cultural blackness, a hairstyle. I expect more variety & nuanced black women from black women authors. They can have a little swagger & confidence. This successful black woman only finds self worth through a man least of all a white man is weird messaging to your majority bw readers. Whose fantasy is this? He loves her because she doesn't think she's worthy of him is not the love story you think it is. Aside from all that, it wasn't enough action & Dante should've found out about izzy when something popped off, that would have been a better reveal. I'm curious if nyla will get her own story because she's described as "beautiful " & thats unusual for a lead in this author's books. I hope the next book can give us a break on the not good enough black girl angle. We know!!!!! It's been done in every way. There can be conflict with falling in love without acting like she's a baboon.
While this was an interesting premise, this book DRAGGED ON! Like... I feel a lot of the filler and story really could have been wrapped up a bit faster. I get that the author was trying to establish a deep foundation with Lizzy and Dante, but it really just slogged on; often, I felt a bit bored reading certain parts.
Now Lizzy-- while I really liked her, I felt that her big reveal wasn't a big reveal at all. I figured it out with the scene when she's at home with her dad in the garage. I think it would've been set up a bit better had the author wrote a scene or two of her practicing, or doing target practice, or something like that.
Then, there was an antagonist who was there, and then kinda just disappeared. I can only assume that he'll resurface in the latter books, but who knows.
Honestly, this is a toss-up. I think that if you don't mind the angst, the long game and the cliffhanger ending, then check it out.
I think half the story was left untold, and it has me stumped. Impressive!
For the above stated bold reason I offer up the 3 star rating. However, in my opinion this could have been a 5 Star hit had I been able to grasp who the players are and how they intertwine. I honestly feel this will be a series I read more than twice to understand the whole story. I just hope by the time it's completed I understand all the pieces.
I was a bit confused throughout the entire book who the some of the characters are and what there revelations will be to the storyline. I fell this is going to be one if the stories that will stump me until I get the skinny on the older side characters. After all I feel like half the story was led untold and will be revealed in due time. It will be a true joy to read the series once its completed!
Love Blue but… this wasn’t one of my favorites. The first half of the book was a slow burn cat and mouse game between Lizzy (Izzy) and Dante. When the pace picked up and seemed more interesting, the initial union between the couple fell flat… the sex was just same ole same at that point…Lizzy was supposed to be shy and frumpy but also kick ass? Meh…. the story felt forced, trying to be a mysterious cliff hanger but fell short. You’re left waiting for the next installment in the series but feeling little to no excitement for it. Overall this wasn’t as good as Blue’s other families/ stories. Twists and turns that felt dry and predictable. Dante was hot but this is missing that something Blue normally has.
The previous book in this series was great. Great chemistry. Great storyline. Great everything. This one, not so much. Good p!it but it takes too long to get to the meat of the story. I love Ms. Saffire but not this book.
I enjoyed the storyline and the main characters. I hope this is not the last of this story. The way it ended makes me think there is more to come.I would recommend
Slow moving🦥, 2.5 Stars I really enjoy the author's writing, but this one just did not seem like it was Ms. Saffire's The last 30% of the book was okay to good.
I love a bad a$$ heroine, and Izzy delivers on so many levels. Dante is 🔥 and I loved the chemistry between him and Izzy. While they get their happy for now, the story ends on a cliffhanger. Not an issue for me because Blue Saffire is a one click author for me. I will be anxiously waiting.
This read was the equivalent to a very bad Tyler Perry script and, IMO, 80% of Tyler’s creations are not good. The premise lacked depth, mafia-driven stories rely heavily on machismo and I get the male characters were all alphas but it’s the same overused formula in too many BWWM narratives. I want to reclaim my time.
It was long. Your books are one of the few books I read that are as long as this book was. You really didn't tell us anything in this book. Sure Dante was a killer, but why? I understood Lizzy being in that club better. You allude to them being in the mafia, then not. I guess you have to keep us guessing about that. I hope Dario's story makes a little more sense. Or maybe Gio's. Shed some light, this was a lot of words, but not information. Read for yourself. Come to your own conclusion.
This book seemed to drag on for quite a while before picking up pace maybe two thirds of the way through. I enjoyed the author's writing style, but the fact that our FMC is described as almost...inferior to (that may not be quite the correct word) our MMC, who is this overly handsome debonair man, is just a storyline that has been played and played out.
Aside from that, the rest of the book was good, but I feel like there was a little something missing. Either way, I still plan on reading some of the author's other works.
Took too long for any love scenes. Again, I am surprised at myself for hanging in there beyond the 50% mark without a love scene but I did. lol I am a fan of Blue Saffire books, but this one fell short for me. It went on and on and it was difficult to finish. I lost interest by the time I go to 70% of the book. It started off well enough, but I don't know, it could have been cut short by a lot.
I absolutely love and was super absorbed in this boom. Fair warning to everyone that decides to read this book. Do NOT read with others around. Between stopping myself from laughing out loud or sucking my teeth and even worse, snapping on someone who interrupted my reading. You will not like to be disturbed at all.
Liz and Dante have so much in common, even though neither knows right away. I love how Bella knows she can count on Liz when it comes to safety and being around. But also, I love Bella in general.
Bella is Dante's 5-year-old old daughter. She goes to being neglected by her cow of a mother, Bethany. And really seek the attention from her mother, and Bethany refuses to give it to her. She actually doesn't like her daughter and finds Bella to be annoying. Bethany is overall trash and a horrible person. But Bella is a lovey and funny little girl. And did I mention she's very bossy? Lol I love and enjoy reading Bella's spunk and love how she tells her father, Dante point blank he was messing things up in getting Liz to become her new mommy. That little girl is going to be a force to mess with once she gets bigger. Lol
I really enjoyed this book, and I'm so excited to find out what is happening with the other characters involved in this book.
I want to really go in on a bunch of stuff that happened; that left me with a lot of questions. But since I feel like it would spoil some things for others, I'm not going to. Instead, I'll wait for the next book to come out to open up more there.
All I am going to say is this is a book that any new reader will enjoy.
Loved this unexpected workplace romance❤️. Intriguing characters that pour love into their family and friends while keeping secrets to keep ensure their safety🤫. I enjoyed the twist and turns the story took me through with every turn of the page.
I love Dante and Lizzy as a couple. Their working relationship kept their lust at bay for a short while, but it was inevitable they’d end up together not only through attraction but also with the push by Gio😜. Their childhood experience of loss allows for deeper understanding of their personality and their chemistry is hot hot hot🔥🥵😈. Members of the family play a significant role in both their lives. Gio as the eldest brother is calculating and gets things done quicky and efficiently👍🏽. Nyla is a strong woman with experience and easily steps in to help🙌🏽. Dante stepping up and accepting his role as the head of the Di Lorenzo was the only choice he had when his family was threatened. It was interesting to see Dante’s reaction when Lizzy herself went into action to help😳😉. I loved the interaction they all have with Bella who is an absolute sweetheart🥰. There is definitely something happening between Gio, Jace and Nyla😬😅. I have my suspicions and I can’t wait to read more about them.
There is a lot going on in this book with characters appearing to be something more than they are. I do see more identities uncovered and I’m all for it😊. I recommend reading this book so you’re all caught up when the next book is released. I cant wait for the next book in the series!
This was a great read, loved that Lizzy was a bada$$, also loved the other side to Dante. That made them ride or die partners that was hot, I think that is so sexy. All children should be loved, I felt like fighting Bella’s mom as well. The weirdest thing happen, I was thinking who the author was when I picked this, nothing bad I love all your stories. I introduced my best friend to you Blue Saffire, 7 years ago, I told her I loved reading your works. Next thing I know she surpassed me. When she started reading your work it was a couple of them out already. I remember when she told me she bought all your early work. She feel in love with your stories, and whated to read them in order. She said I was a book pusher, LOL 😆. Writing this review I’m crying, she passed away at the end of January. She loved books, and she would get so mad at me because I would tell her about a good book I just read. She was mad because if it wasn’t a Kindle free read she had to purchase it. I miss her, she would have love this new series. 🥰RIP Stephanie 🥰 This is a great read
She's done it again!!! Blue Saffire has once again brought out her arsenal for what looks like the beginning of yet another dynamic series. The Di Lorenzo brothers are a force to be reckoned with. And this first book gives you a big glimpse of the power, pride, passion, loyalty, love and conviction that they have for their family and friends. The twists in Dante and Lizzy's story will have you guessing what's going on and what's gonna happen, only to find out you were totally clueless. Blue Saffire has such a way with keeping you on the edge of your seat! Every page just gets better and better. And the secrets just keep on coming!! And can I just say how much I love love Bella?! She is such a doll! For all the twists and turns and secrets I cannot promote this book hard enough. If you've read any of Blue Saffire's books then you know she doesn't half step. This series is about to be 🔥🔥🔥🔥! I can't wait to read Dario and Carleen's story. Well done Ms. Saffire!!
This was an unexpected slow read in the beginning.. however it gets revved up quick with a few characters you are wanting to punch in the throat! I am liking this family, the Di Lorenzo brother's, especially, Gio. You won't get his story in this book, but pay attention because he is becoming a master and a key player. The gems of this story are Dante, and you better not sleep on the quiet and nerdy, Ms Lizzy....I enjoyed how they came together. There were a few spots in the book that left you raising an eyebrow 🤔, wondering if it made sense or why the point made... but the story flowed on, so you weren't confused for too long... My fav part, and not giving anything away.. was when the skates first came out... this is where you get to experience the visual and mind of Ms. Blue.. because my visual mind movie kick on and it was as if you were there on edge with popcorn 🍿! Ok.. I'm ready for #2 and Dario and Carleen's story.. and hope to get more of a glimpse of Nyla!...
She did it again! Blue Saffire had me laughing, crying, mad, happy…..so many emotions. Like every book I’ve read by her over the years, it’s HARD TO PUT DOWN! Life kept getting in the way of my reading. So now I will to see what happens next.
One of the best things that I love about this story is Lizzy/Izzy. As with all of Blue’s female leads, she’s strong yet vulnerable in so many ways. She’s makes it so easy to connect with her. And well what woman in their right mind couldn’t feel for Dante? The love he has and unashamedly shows for his daughter…….makes my heart shine.
This is probably the longest review I’ve ever written..lol. I never give away spoilers, don’t waste time with the synopsis because you see that in the blurb. I will just end with this……BE PREPARED TO LOVE IT. And yes it does set you up for the next book. You won’t be disappointed because her series are THE BOMB!
I hate waiting for the full series. I appreciated some of the slow burn as Dante and Lizzy worked thru their individual stuff realistically...but it was vvveeerrrrry slow. The sex came late, was rushed and skipped over. Love a man that is sexy and love his kids...yaazzzz Dante. Happy to see the various layers of Lizzy-shy, nerdy, introvert, quirky, accomplished, smart, but still getting comfortable with her body. Love seeing love for black women-esp "non stick figure" women, dark skinned, accomplished women that is fine alone, but can get a man if she wants. Seeing them loved on for who they are, not these Americanized standards. Loved the Di Lorenz men...can't wait for Gio & Nyla's story. Them the grown, grown sexy folk.
This layered book has many twists that draws you into this story that takes you into Dante and Gio's world of family and friends. Bethany a distant wife and mother. Bella a sweet, bright, charming daughter and Lizzy, Dante's Assistant is more than she appears to be. Nyla her sister, has secrets of her own. Dante and Lizzy are made for each other…their chemistry, off the charts. Both Lizzy and Nyla are accomplished, strong women. Don’t target anyone they love or come for them…do so at your own peril. Gio the oldest son a take charge enforcer and protector gets things done. Dante the business man and head of the family has to revert to past behavior because of adversaries forgetting who he is, threatening his businesses and family. As a reminder, Dante strikes fear in his enemies and gets retribution. This book definitely holds your interest page after page. The plot and subplot are so multilayered it elicits many different emotions. Anticipating what is coming next.
Author~Blue really brought the mystery, gansta, and loving romance with this book. It truly was a work husband book. Lizzy seemed so bland and simple which was a complete hoax, that chick had a suicide squad girl alter ego and she was just as skilled, deadly, and reckless as Harley, and Dante was like Bloodsport, deadly without a care if you crossed him. The twist and turns were very interesting. And Gio and Jace were like twins and shadows of each other thier relationship with Nyla is curious and has hints of a threesome ! This was a good read and will keep you from being bored on a cold blizzardly night !
Good story. Entertaining. The writing id clean, the characters interesting. I liked that Liz was a gamer. I would have loved to read more about her Derby team. I didn't buy all the hush hush about secrets and all. I could guess very early what those were, and felt like it was stretched thin just for 'angst' sake. Also thee way their 2 families are linked is a bit much. I am not too fond of series of linked bwwm interracial couple which I found a bit fetishy, but I am interested in reading more about the ther 2 other brothers and mainly get the answers about all the mystery sabotage going on against the family. Si I guess the book did its job.
There is more than meets the eye in the first book of the Work Husband series. While Dante is not a typical alpha, he is a boss in his own right. Lizzy will be revealed to be more than a perfect match for Dante in every way. There are so many twists in this story that I have already started my mental murder map. I have several theories about what is happening with the main, supporting, and off-canvas characters, which I will keep to myself. 😉I plan to continue this series as I can’t wait to see what will happen next.
OMG…this book has it all. Blue Safire included: Mystery, laughter, sadness, anger, heartbreak, wonder and then a cliffhanger. Gio, Dante and Darius along with Jace are some powerful dudes. But Gio has the quick, calculating mind, Gangster, that lines things up accurately and without fail to get a job done. Dante relies on Lizzie and Bella loves Lizzie. Bethany, Dante’s wife/Bella’s mom, is a REAL piece of work. Definitely worth the read!!!!
This story has all the bits and parts I love about a Blue Saffire book. This time it was told slower and we really got to see the characters build a friendship and relationship. Dante was a great father and a marvelous boyfriend. You didn't even mind he killed and tortured people as a side gig. When I think about Lizzy, I think she was braver, smarter, and more confident than she ever knew. Gio and Nyla are wonderful secondary characters. Can't wait for Dario's story and can only imagine what Gio will be up to next.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been invested in multiple characters in one book. Delilah and her Sister Ny, have some secrets, ooh Chile I suspected but I was blown away. Dante, Gio and the rest of the crew, sinfully Alpha Male BDE..little Bella is a a scene stealer.. I can’t wait for the next book. I have questions.. what going on with Jayce, Gio, and Ny?? Dario and Carleen.. This story had everything friendship, sexual tension, Mafia undertones, murder, secrets and the sex heat was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I liked this book. It was good to read a book about a different type of black woman. So many books write about women who are looking to be rescued. Izzy can take care of herself. Dante is just the icing on the cake! I also love the contradictions of Izzy. Yes, even beautiful women sometimes have trouble believing that they are. And, nerdy, sexy and powerful women actually do exist in real life. Thanks for going back to the formula that made me fall in love with the Black brothers series. I can't wait for the next installment.
