Damek goes to school just like every other normal kid, but when his Aunt begins harboring elemental refugees, his world is turned upside down. He discovers dark forces that threaten the balance of the elements and seek a “cleansing” of all those who are not of pure descent. I move into the living room and I find her sitting on the couch across from the mild fireplace. She has a beautiful mane of blonde hair falling around her pale white face. The rest of her is covered with the black shroud but I can tell that she has a thin frame as the cloth billows around her body. She is leaning her forehead against her hand with her elbow propped against the arm of the couch. Her delicate fingers raked carelessly through her hair. I can see light pink polish painted on her nails and a thin black line at the edge. Her other hand moves delicately in front of her. A small white cloud of steam swirls wildly in front of her. It dances playfully, growing larger and smaller, taking shape and scattering again. I can’t take my eyes off it. She’s a Vapore, a hybrid Water and Air Elemental. I’ve never met one before. I stand their stupidly, unsure of what to say. The mysterious beauty sitting unaware of my presence has me spellbound. I’ve never been good with girls, except Zarya, but then again, she really isn’t a girl to me. She’s my best friend. With the girls at school, I’ve always fumbled with my words and been physically clumsy. My palms are sweaty and I’m always scared that my armpits smell. I am not good with girls at all and this girl sitting on my couch is the most hypnotic of them all. She turns her head towards me and a pair of soft gray eyes meets me. Her skin is pale but a soft glow seems to gently radiate just below the surface. Her cheeks are rounded and her chin is small. A single freckle sits at the edge of her right thin eyebrow. Her lips turn upwards slightly, giving me a tentative smile. I try to return one of my own but my face feels like it distorts in an ugly fashion.

Wow!! I wish I could add few more stars to this amazing book!!!! It evoked so many emotions in me, that just 5 stars does not do any justice to the author. It was just not any other fiction read for me! I felt so real as if everything was happening around me. I finished this book a couple months ago and I still cannot stop thinking about it. I have already read it twice! “Death is a large part of my life. Death is my life. Death is me.” There are so many delightful parts to this novel that I fell in love with. I can spend all day writing my favorite quotes. Harper Davis is an amazing author had done a fantastic job! The way the story continues with emotions surging all around you, it binds you from the start till the end. It’s not just an another pick, it’s a story that binds you and make you think. To live it and love it. Read this book and surely it would one of your favorites.
Great story and definitely looking forward to reading more in the series. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The story has some action and a little bit of mystery as you will discover when reading. *SPOILERS AHEAD* We still don't know if Damek is an Aether which is the one that controls all elements and I am very curious to know if he will be the most powerful of them all. He has never been anything more than a shy High school kid and always tried to fly under the radar and hide, but now with his new powers maybe he will become a strong and very powerful fighter against the fight with the Purists (the ones that want the hybrids gone). in this part of the story we discovered that he has more than one power but I won't tell you which ones. The story is well written and safe for a teen to read. I will definitely be giving it to my 2 kids to read, I'm sure they will enjoy it very much!
Welcome to the elemental world. Damek lives with his aunt Eleanor (Elle) he goes to a normal public school but he is anything but normal. He belongs to the elemental world, where fire, water, air and earth rule. If you belong to one element you are a purist if you belong to more than one you are a hybrid. Their are some purists who don't think Hybrids should be allowed to live, sadly. their are prejudices everywhere no matter if you are mortal or immortal. Damek along with his aunt and a few friends are trying to save the hybrid community and keep the safe from the purists who want to destroy them. Along the way Damek finds out a few interesting things about himself. This is a great book with really different and interesting ideas. I really enjoyed it.
