Fasciné par sa découverte, Steve suit les traces de son ancêtre et repère dans l'Espagne d'aujourd'hui les vestiges de l'histoire : champs de bataille, ruines, villes désertées… Petit à petit, il reconstitue une partie cachée de la vie de son grand-père et réalise que la défense d'une cause peut soulever bien des passions contradictoires.
