Personal Response: I read the book Sleepy Hollow Sleepover. I liked this book because it always kept me in to the book. I liked how this book had some picture to also explain what was happening in the book.
Plot: They are from a town called Tarrytown which it is now Halloween. The bank is have a hay ride with a mechanical headless horsemen. They are going to sleep in an old cabin, take a haunted hayride, and check out the Old Dutch Church. Some people said they have seen the headless horseman. Some on set the wagons on fire and slashed the police car tires. They called their parents and told them that they won't be back till later. Two guys were stealing money from the bank. The kids jumped in the bed of the truck. They were throw money out so they left a money trail. When the truck stopped and the kids got caught. They were thrown in a underground cellar with a removable top. The kids helped each other get up and one called the police. After calling the police they slashed one of the tire. They noticed that the color of the truck has changed the color to black. Then they went back to the cellar so they didn’t get caught. The cops showed up and took the two robbers away. Another police car took the kids to there home. Characterization: The main three people were Ruth, Josh, and Dink. The are all friends and they all like solve mystery the are all about the same age. They all live in the same town. They all have different parents but they hang out every day.
Recommendation: I would recommend this book to 3-5 graders. If the reader likes reading about mystery and if they solve them too. they would like this book.
In this super-edition, the adventures of Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose continue! Celebrating Halloween in Sleepy Hollow, NY, the threesome is in for a spooktacular time! Sleeping in the "Haunted House" cabin, going on haunted hayrides, and participating in a spooky carnival is just the beginning of their adventures! When someone burns down the hayride wagons and slashes the police mens car tires, the threesome follow the clues to solve the mystery, but it is not what they expected! I'll be honest, I was at the edge of my seat during some parts of this! I thought it might be a titch scary for younger kids (especially if you don't keep reading to find out what happens). And of course it errs on the cheesy side and the adventure seems a little far-fetched for these kids (I would freak out as a parent if my kids were kidnapped!) but it does entertain. Also featured is a hidden message within the illustrations...makes it fun to look at those.
This book is a must have for a young reader's Halloween shelf. The story is good and the extra puzzle to solve finding a letter in each illustration to reveal a message at the end is great fun.
My 7 year old son and I started reading this book together and it was a perfect starter chapter book.
The print was a good size and the content had a bit of a mysterious aspect to it, but not anything that would be bothersome or difficult for him to understand.
Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose are in Tarrytown, New York, also known as Sleepy Hollow. They are there with Dink's dad to experience the Sleepy Hollow haunted Halloween activities. While there they witness a crime of hay wagons being set fire to and the next day a bank robbery. How are these two crimes related? And what did Dink see during the night before the fire? Will they be saved from the thieves on time? And who was the Headless Horseman? All his and so much more in this mystery Halloween special.
I love when my son asks, "Just one more chapter? Please!" And it's not only one more, usually it's two. That's when your know it's a good book. 😊
Fiona: 2 stars - it was ok, but I didn’t love it. I know I’m not really the audience but it was like a lot of story to get to a really fast conclusion and he could have drawn it ou more.
Regan: 2 stars - Ron Roy actually tried a red herring with Officer Sneke but then had them just rush telling the whole mystery out at the end! What’s up with that?
Liam: 9/10 stars. It had a lot of action and I guessed it right!
I gave it a 2/5 rating because it was the scariest book I ever read. The cover was the most scariest because the horses eyes looked terrifying and I thought his head was a pumpkin but he was really holding a pumpkin lantern. He was the headless horseman. I had to move the book out of my room because it would give me nightmares if it was my room.

Sleepy Hollow Sleepover, was an okay book. I didn't really like it that much because I thought that it would be more interesting then this, but it just bored me and didn't give me that much of an excitement that I was looking for. Over all I would recommend it to kids you are in grades k-5.
I always thought one of the scariest stories ever was The Legend of Sleepy Hollow so it was fun to read this mystery. As always, this is a great kids’ mystery that has great characters and an interesting plot.
This was a great connection to the Legend of Sleepy Hollow that we read in class, but for younger readers. Jason really enjoyed the mystery of the legend, and it was nice to be able to make that connection in class with my students as well.
Definitely a fun read for Halloween. It wasn't my favorite of the children's series that we have been reading, but my son thought it was a lot of fun. I loved the Sleepy Hollow references.
I've always loved the A-Z mysteries. So much adventure and fun. This one particularly held my attention because it was based around the mystery of the headless horseman but with a special twist.
These are fun little mysteries. The hidden message in the illustrations was a great bonus. This one didn't have as many smoke screens as some of the others but a great middle grade Halloween story.
I'm all done with the kids getting kidnapped because they keep sneaking into trucks to find stuff. I enjoy the more innocent ones like the School Skeleton.

My 7 - year old has finished the entire set of the A to Z mysteries (including all the super editions). The super editions are lengthier and more satisfying. I started reading them because I wanted to find out how good these mysteries are and after I started, I finished the entire set myself. This will be a common review for all the books in the set (so please forgive me if you see this repeated under another book).
First of all, the mystery part of the book is fairly simple for an adult, but I can see how it can keep a kid engrossed. The characters are playful, around the same age as my kid now, so are very relatable. Yes, there are some characteristics which can be a little irritating, but they didn't really bother me too much as to take away from the stories. The other con is that these little kids are left unmonitored in many of their adventures (I am not a helicopter parent, but it felt a little strange, especially when they are out of the country altogether).
That being said, now what I loved about the stories -
1) Most of the stories are based in different cities, and sometimes different countries, so the travel perspective is amazing. We, as a family, love to travel and every time the kids in the books traveled somewhere it made the story more exciting to me (as well as my kid). My kid had comments on how they went to Key West and later Washington D.C "just like us".
2) There are strong characters of both genders, the villains are of different genders as well, so the stereotyping is considerably less (there was a female pilot in one of the books that stood out to me) and I love it that girls reading the books have some good role models. I would always like more female strong characters shown ofcourse :).
I'm sure my kids will be enjoying many more of the author's books in the future :)
We have loved the A to Z Mysteries series and have read them all. We love that Mr. Roy has written several extra "Super Edition" stories with the same characters. Dink, Josh and Ruth Rose feel like old friends to us.
This was a fun story with a Halloween theme and provides a little background information about The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. The story is fun and exciting (and a little dangerous, too. Our girls loved it and we read this book in two quick readings, with my youngest and oldest volunteering to read some of the chapters when I got sleepy (they don't do that too often!) We are eagerly awaiting the next Super Edition story: A to Z Mysteries Super Edition #5: The New Year Dragon Dilemma.
