Metaform #2

The Metaform

Rate this book
Gabriel has everything he ever wanted; wealth, a fine new bio-android body, and the prospect of at least three hundred more years of life. But the Metaform, the vast computer that gave him these wonderful things, has fallen silent, and the public’s opinion of android frames has undergone a brutal change. A movement to rid the world of bio-androids has begun to rise. Beautiful, weird and unnatural, the fortunate people who received their new bodies before the Metaform went offline are becoming desperate fugitives. Gabe’s life and sanity are in mortal danger, but he must help the Metaform’s last operator to regain control of her computer. Before the computer’s new self-awareness and growing contempt for humanity starts a war that the world cannot win.

SciFi is not my usual genre. Perhaps I do not have the imagination to see the worlds created in the genre. That said, I do love a good story well told. The author of The Metaform (and Manumission, its predecessor in what one hopes will be a trilogy) has done just that, especially in The Metaform.

I read Manumission as a favour and was almost immediately won over by the story. The Metaform continues the story though with more emphasis on character development. If I had to choose a favourite character, one to see more of in the third book (?) it would be the urchin Deff, also known as ... well you will see and perhaps be as delighted as I was by that plotline.

The Metaform comes highly recommended by me. Do first read Manumission.

And now for that third book?!

What a great read. Well written. I love the author’s imagination for a futuristic world. Just like the first novel, I think it would make a great movie.
