Deep Range

Rate this book
Captain Jacques Junet was quite comfortable with the current workload. His requirements were being met and he was pondering an early retirement, somewhere green, on the Earth. The deep-space tow vessel, the Havelock , and her rag-tag crew of professionals were making a living in the Deep Range, servicing the fleet of ChronosCom Corporation's shipping craft (trucks). When the orders came down from corporate which required his compliance to complete an urgent job, Jacques is torn and is forced to change his plans. Unbeknownst at the time, the job would lead the Havelock onto a path none of them would be willing to go on; forced to do things they never thought they would do, and all prompted by both a revolutionary discovery and a dubious piece of illegal technology. If the Havelock can only make it back to Earth -- perhaps Captain Junet and his team can prevent the rise of all-out corporate war.

Set in the near future, in a world where massive, intra-solar corporations govern all of humanity and society is divided between its rich, elite citizen class and a lower, indebted service class. Most of the inner solar system is owned and beyond the orbit of Mars, corporation claimed territories in the asteroid belt are being heavily mined, and industry is rampant. The novel is set in a world rich in both science and technology and provides a glimpse into things to come. The answers Jacques and his team uncover reveal a more sinister plot than they ever thought imaginable. The closer they get, the harder it becomes.

A nice addition to the world of sci-fi thrillers!

The characters and plot was exceptional which made for a great read. The detection of a few minor issues is what ultimately made the difference between it being a four star instead of a five star read.

Great story. Well written characters. An ending I didn’t see coming but truthfully, it was the ending that needed to be. Can’t wait for more from Aaron Lancaster.
