They are marionettes under a concrete sky.

Pain shoots through Maeve Campbell’s body when she wakes cold and disoriented, locked in a neglected cement room.

Her drowsy eyes sweep the cell and land on a masculine, limp body across the room. Gripping his shoulder, she rolls him to his back, face angling toward her. Only it’s not who she thinks.

It’s not her husband.

And they aren’t alone. A stranger taunts them from within an old rusted speaker. A stranger who wants them to suffer.

With each passing day, and only each other to lean on, their determination becomes a fight not only for survival but for each other. *If We Disappear Here features mature themes and content that may not be suitable for all audiences. Reader discretion is advised.*

Pain shoots through Maeve Campbell's body when she wakes cold and disoriented, locked in a neglected cement room. Her drowsy eyes sweep the cell and land on a masculine, limp body across the room. Gripping his shoulder, she rolls him to his back, face angling toward her. Only it's not who she thinks. It's not her husband. And they aren't alone. IF WE DISAPPEAR HERE is a nail-biting tale of two strangers fighting to survive an unknown captor's insufferable vengeance. Can you imagine waking up in a cold, cemented room with a passed-out person beside you? Lord knows I would lose it! Yet, Maeve and Ledger made it work under horrific circumstances. The sicko behind the speaker was in control, and they either had to obey or deal with the consequences. At first, their daily sufferings were hard to read. But, as time passed, they had no choice but to get to know each other. Although they were married and loved their partners, their connection was undeniable. Seeing them emotionally bond through this traumatic experience and discover the light within the darkness was beautiful.

My biggest criticism is that the story needed to be darker. This "sinister" concept of imprisonment didn't play out how I imagined. In addition, the narrative should have been shorter. The author could have easily knocked off 150 pages, and the plot would have been steady. The character build-up was significant since their dialogue gave us great insight into Maeve and Ledger's personalities.

In conclusion, the twist delivered a startling reveal I never saw coming. Hats off to Mindy Hayes's creative thought process because she got me with that shocking turn of events! Even though IF WE DISAPPEAR HERE didn't hit all of my desires, it will appeal to readers who like a mix of romance and chills.

After reading "Still Beating," I was looking for a similar book - kidnapping thriller. This book was often recommended online as having a similar plot. However, I didn't grow as attached to the characters in this book. The plot was good and the pace was perfect.
