Evie Hunter is actually two authors Caroline McCall and Eileen Gormley who met at a creative writing workshop in Dublin in 2010. On discovering that they shared a passion for erotic fiction, they became the best of friends. In early 2012 they got a chance to co-write a series of erotic novellas for an American publisher. When they completed the second one without killing each other, they decided to take on something bigger. Eventually, they emerged into daylight, clutching THE PLEASURES OF WINTER, saying 'Never again' ... until the next time.
I have been a fan of Evie’s work for a little while now. I read the synopsis for ‘The Chase’ and it certainly sounded like the sort of gritty tale I have come to expect from Evie. So without further ado, I grabbed my Kindle, grabbed a cup of tea and settled down for what proved to be an interesting afternoon of reading. I did enjoy reading ‘The Chase’ but more about that in a bit. I have to be honest and say that it took me a little while to get into ‘The Chase’. I think that part of the problem was the fact that the story began with a lot of detail about horses and horse racing, which doesn’t really interest me. I persevered with the story and I am so glad that I did. Once I got past the horsey detail, I found that I couldn’t turn the pages of the book quickly enough. I was intrigued by the storylines and by the characters. I had my own suspicions as to what was going to happen so I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right track or if I had wandered down the wrong path entirely. I became so caught up in the story and lost all track of time. I soon got to the end of ‘The Chase’. I found ‘The Chase’ to be a gritty and gripping read, which kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. ‘The Chase’ is well written but that’s what I have come to expect from Evie. She certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention and draw them into what proves to be one hell of a story. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fairly fast pace throughout. Reading ‘The Chase’ felt a bit like being on an at times scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. I love the way in which Evie makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story themselves and at the heart of the action. In short and overall I did enjoy reading ‘The Chase’ and I would recommend this book to other readers. I look forward to reading much more of Evie’s work in the future. The score on the Gigner Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.
The Chase is not my first read from author Evie Hunter. I love her books, so when the tour invite for this hit my email, I jumped at the chance. And I’m glad I did! This is a gripping revenge thriller!
There were moments where the pace slowed a bit more than I would have liked, but overall, the pace was quite addictive. It had me on the edge of my seat more often than not and I really couldn’t wait to find out all I needed to know in the end.
The characters were fascinating. I am always impressed with this author’s ability to craft characters who react in realistic ways and are relatable.
An excellent thriller mystery. Make sure you check it out!
Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources, Boldwood Books, Netgalley, and the author for the free review copy. All opinions are my own and unbiased.
An entertaining and page turning romantic suspense. Based in the world of horse racing it took me back to the days of reading mysteries by Dick Francis. Billionaire and stable girl connect. An engaging story. Surprised at the ending. No spoilers so I won't say why. My only complaint was the "f" word. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley.
When I received my first e-reader, a Nook, from my husband, I’d noticed he’d put an Evie Hunter book on it for me. That was a few years ago, and it was my first foray into Hunter’s unique genre. I appreciate the intrigue and undertones of danger I’ve experienced in every Hunter book I’ve read so far, with The Chase being the latest and the greatest to date!
The plot was really unique. I’m not familiar with the inner workings of the horse industry, so finding out that Farah might be privy to some underhanded schemes going on within a lifestyle she’s been part of for many years of her life–well, it kept me going. I wanted to see what would happen next, and who she could ultimately trust. Isaac might be that kind of person for her, but she feels betrayed by people she’s always relied on and depended on. If that can happen, what would make her think she can let her guard down with Isaac?
The threats Farah experienced kept raising the stakes. And the closer they get to the truth, the more invested Isaac becomes. Farah is unlike any woman he’s ever experienced, while Farah tries desperately to tamp down the attraction she feels towards a man who lives a lifestyle that is so beyond the world she lives in. There’s nothing better than an opposites attract situation.
I appreciated the different points of view that we get to see from various characters. I felt it gave more depth and insight into what’s going on and more importantly, the why of the matter. And The Chase was told in customary Hunter fashion–with mystery and drama, and loaded with that special opposing romance that would keep any reader on the hook!
Evie Hunter is an author whose books I love to read. She always manages to tick all my boxes whatever she releases. As soon as I got my invite to this tour I was already really looking forward to this book. I just hoped she could keep up her excellent standards to make The Chase as excellent a read as her previous ones. I always wonder just why I even think about standards, I should have faith. The Chase was such a great revenge thriller!
Set In the horse racing world really made it a refreshing plot. I know nothing about this world, or anything that goes on in it. Farah is our main character and it's looking like she knows of some shady stuff going on withing this world she is a part of.
This set the tone for me and I was so interested as to what would happen next. She feels she can't trust anyone in her life as everyone has let her down. Then there is Isaac, can she trust him and why does she even think she can??
This is a mystery thriller that just keeps ramping up the suspense the more you read. I found myself on the edge of my seat on numerous occasions throughout. As always the characters are relatable and so realistic. I felt for Farah and hoped that, although they came from truly different backgrounds, that they could find a way.
I managed to read this in one sitting, only because it had me glued to the kindle. Such an addictive read with tension, mystery, romance and an intriguing plot. Evie Hunter has again proved that she can still make me hang on to her every word.
Farah works in a stable with horses doing the job that she loves and is content with. The one morning Farah and her boss have a disagreement after Farah discovers illegal activity taking place where she works and confronts her boss. Unbelievably Farah is fried from her dream job, the job she loves more than anything in the world.
Unbeknown to Farah her unfair dismissal is overheard by Isaac who’s horses Farah cares for. Isaac is also a multi millionaire who also suspects that illegal activity maybe taking place and together him and Farah team up to work out what is going on.
After claiming unfair dismissal Farah is reinstated however the criminal circle behind the wrong doings at the stables are concerned that Farah knows to much and are not happy to see her back. Farah may have her job back but it could come at a deadly cost. As Isaac and Farah dig deeper into the illegal activity it becomes clear that there are people out there that would kill to keep their plans a secret.
I really enjoyed reading this book at times I found it a little slow in a couple of places but other than that it was a thrilling and addictive read.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review.
I enjoyed reading this book. I was hooked from the first page. This is my second book by this author and this one definitely lived up to my expectations and more.
The plot of this book was so exciting and I couldn’t wait to find out what happened and who was involved. I thought the mystery behind illegal horse betting was a great start for the book. It leads the reader to suspect anyone and everyone. It really could have been anyone in this story. I enjoyed the pace of this book, it was full of energy and twists.
I liked the characters in this book, as I mentioned before, a lot of characters were suspects. I enjoyed the mysterious atmosphere around certain characters. It made the reader unsure of who they can trust. I thought the two main characters, Farah and Issac, worked well as a team and I loved their dynamic. They go through such a scary journey together and they are determined to figure out what happened.
This authors writing style is easy to understand and easy to follow. The chapters are quite long compared to other books but they do go by quickly. I enjoyed the amount of emotion the author put into this book to bring the characters to life. This gave the reader a good connection with the characters.
I highly recommend this author and definitely this book.
Farah Ash has her dream job working in a prestigious riding stable but when she uncovers something suspicious going on her boss isn't too keen on her interfering in stable business. With the help of wealthy race horse owner, Isaac Fernandez, Farah starts to uncover a web of intrigue which will take both her, and Isaac, into great danger.
The Chase hits the ground running in an exciting thriller which looks at the wheeling and dealing going on behind the scenes at this riding establishment and how the perpetrators of a dangerous crime will stop at nothing to get what they want, even if it means killing in the process.
I enjoyed getting to know both Farah, and Isaac, and even though their lifestyles, and backgrounds, couldn't be more different, they soon discover that they have much in common and their growing attraction to each other is done in a lovely realistic way. Whilst there is an unashamedly romantic edge to to the story this doesn't detract from what is, after all, a really suspenseful story, with enough twists and turns, thrills and spills to keep you guessing until the end.
Well written, with a complex mystery at the heart of the story, and with characters who you really start to care about, The Chase is an intriguing, and exciting, revenge thriller.
#blogtour stop for this brilliant revenge thriller by Evie Hunter @rachelsrandomresources @bookandtonic REVIEW BELOW ~ 5 STARS The Chase is a superbly written revenge thriller. Farah, gets fired from her beloved job working with race horses and is determined to prove that her suspicions of dodgy dealing are true. She joins forces with one of the race horse owners., The ever dashing Isaac. Of course he is super rich and can have anything he wants as oppose to Farah who struggles for every penny, an unlikely couple? Well you’ll have to buy this wonderful book to find out.
Evie Hunter has a powerful writing style that does not mess about. No beginning chapters that don’t seem to matter to much, more of a few filler chapters. Not so for Evie Hunter, she is straight in there with action. Certainly my kind of book. I enjoyed this fascinating world of the rich and richer with their horses and fast cars. The story is packed with intrigue and has it’s fair share of romance thrown in. It is entertaining and suspenseful throughout. A definite good all round summer read. #booktour #booksmatter #bloggerreview #bookstagram #revenge #thriller #booklover #review
The Chase by Evie Hunter is based around the world of horse racing scene and a very easy read and is a great book to take on your holidays. However, it did remind me of 50 shades of grey but without all the red room (wink wink)

Evie Hunter’s latest novel The Chase is a high-stakes and high octane thriller that will leave readers breathless.
Stable girl Farah has just been sacked from her job and she is beside herself with worry about her beloved horses. Evie Hunter writes some graphic fast pace novels. I have loved them all.
This one was a little slow to start but once it got going it picked up the pace and gripped me.
A mystery thriller set in the horse racing world is intriguing and not having a clue what goes on in this world, Evie described it perfectly with her clever imagination. Evie describes her characters so they become believable.
Full of suspense and drama this book definitely kept me on my toes until the last page.
My goodness I enjoyed this. The Chase By Evie Hunter
This was an explosive read. I have read some of Evie's previous books and her writing style is phenomenal, If you are looking for gritty, entertaining, thrilling reads then this author is a must. A great Hook of book, start it and you are hooked. Great characters and great build up through the story. Littles bits fed to you as you read before it all comes together. Very well written.
This is a stand alone romantic, cosy mystery, set in the horse racing world in Lambourne. I really enjoyed it and it was filled with interesting characters, an easy to follow plot, touches of romance and a steady pace. Perhaps it was a bit predictable but I would recommend this enjoyable read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
This is my first Evie Hunter and I enjoyed it. The plot was nice, simple and a little predictable but it had a decent pace and was written well so very easy to lose yourself in the world of Farah and Isaac. I will definitely read the authors other two novels to date.
This is the first book I have read from this author. I found the characters well defined and the plot easy to follow. Without too many surprises, this was a pleasant, if predictable, story. I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily provided an honest review.
Really enjoyed this book I’ve never read one of this authors before so it was a pleasant surprise it was different to what I usually read not as gory there was lots of aspects to it will definitely read another of Evie Hunter books very soon
I thought this was going to be about horses no such luck
Bitterly disappointed after actually paying for it as it seemed like a female dick Francis book but it turned out to be just chick lit for thick chicks and horses were barely even mentioned after chapter one ..
