Once again Craig Thompson weaves a complex but powerful tale of good and evil, friendship and betrayal, God and Satan, and, perhaps more than anything else, love—both human and divine.
Like its predecessor, Animus features a large cast of characters, some familiar, some new. As the novel unfolds, their stories begin to cross each other, eventually interweaving into one breathtaking tapestry. The plot bounces all around the globe, from Belgium to America to France and beyond. Take it from me, it’s a wild ride every step of the way, sailing along at a delightfully quick pace. Said pace made it nearly impossible to put down.
And just what is it that fuels this addictive global thriller? The quest for justice. Over the past few years, human trafficking has pierced the public’s consciousness more than ever before. Thompson is perhaps the bravest and boldest of today’s authors, in that he fearlessly addresses the issue and forces the world to understand just how awful it is.
While I won’t give anything away, I will leave you with a warning: This could potentially be a very difficult read for some people. The opening scene alone is enough to make a grown man choke up. There are numerous other scenes which evoke strong emotions. If you’ve got a weak stomach, proceed with caution.
But I don’t intend to scare you away from reading Animus. I highly recommend it!
