Nothing wrong with the storyline, the idea was good and kept you guessing, but I found the excessive salivating over female colleagues really off putting. Also there was too much detail or repetition in places which slowed the narrative down. I’m sure this kind of thing will be ironed out in future books.

A good storyline but I felt could have been so much more. Some good proof reading was required as there were a fair amount of inconsistencies that I found irritating, especially as initially they made me go back through the book thinking I’d missed something.
Although being a fan of the genre, the rape descriptions I found gratuitous and the somewhat cringeworthy references to bouncing breasts, conflower blue eyes and blond hair a bit generalised and stereotypical. Made me roll my eyes. I’d Sussed the plot early on in the book but I did finish it. Being a Leeds lass and coppers daughter, it was interesting to recognise the settings. Middleton Woods has never been a place to walk in the dark on your own !
I will try this author again a bit further along the series as I think he will get much better, this was his first.

I couldn't finish this book unfortunately. The descriptions are too much. Too many very specific references to the local area in Leeds (a small reference would allow those who know the area to know what was being described but there are too many street names and specific Starbucks within a shopping centre for example).
Some descriptions felt personal to the author and not from the character itself if that makes sense.
The book needs to have had some proof reading before being published.
The plot could have kept me reading but the prose was repetitive and misogynistic

Wow ! What an amazing book. Introduced us to a set of new character's from the police force, all of which I soon developed empathy for. The main characters all live and work in and around Leeds which is where I am from, and it makes a refreshing change to see the story coming from this part of the UK.
The action moves along at a pace and it is definitely a book that is hard to put down, you just want to find out what they are going to do next, to solve the rather gruesome crime. As in most crime drama's the solution doesn't come straight away, and you can feel the frustration of the detectives as they try desperately to catch this "perp" before any other crimes are committed. George, the main detective also has an interesting back story that is also part of the action. This book is surely destined to become a future TV crime drama!
I look forward to reading more George Beaumont thrillers in the future.

Im a slow reader and even I seemed to be racing through this heavy tome at quite a speed!

Being a Leeds Loiner its lovely to be able to put images of known places into this novel.

If Ive to give any criticism, having worked with WYP some of the language isnt used. “Perp” is quite an American term and rarely used in UK and Grand Theft Auto again very American!
But I enjoyed the book despite these - towards the end I solved the murder before George!! And was willing him to make the connection!

Thank You Lee for my signed copy, much appreciated / will be on the look out now for your 1st follow up

Reading as part of my book clubs November book.

Easy to follow story line with a likeable main character (mostly) with short chapters that keep you page turning until the end.

If you live in around South Leeds this book has an added bonus of using real life places which helps add to the excitement of the tale... thankfully not a teacher so nothing to fear by walking alone in these areas alone.. (jokes!)

Does use some police and crime terminology throughout which some may not like however I found it added good context to the storyline.

Would continue to read other books in the series.

I thought this was a really good start to a new crime series. I think the characters have the making of a great team and I did enjoy the lead character DI George Beaumont very much.
I did think the storyline was quite predictable but that didn't stop me finishing and eagerly turning the pages. As a Leeds lass myself I obviously enjoyed the setting of the book and could visualise it perfectly.
Book 2 in the series will definitely be my next read.

worth reading.

Was quite a good read, but I still rather felt as if I was reading a sort of summary for the greater part of the novel. It was only during the last quarter that there was really any conversation between the characters, which was a bit disappointing as I normally enjoy the back story of a book as interesting as the actual story, but apart from George himself I didn’t feel this.
Will try the next in series to see if this improves.

As bad as I feel giving this low a rating to a local author (all the locations in the book were familiar to me) I really did not enjoy the laughable plot, the misogynistic descriptions of every female character and the way the rape scenes were written like sex scenes rather than scenes of violence. No thanks to the rest of the series.

A brilliant book from start to finish! The 1st I've read by this author but already downloaded the others onto my Kindle ! Featuring DI Beaumont and his colleagues looking into the murders of women who've been chosen by the killer and DI Beaumonts job to find the killer !

Graphic murder and violence, yet gripping

As a Leeds lass growing up in the Yorkshire ripper era, had mixed feelings about a serial rapist an murderer set in Leeds. This book gripped from beginning to end

not the best but a good read

Not a bad book but I did know who had done it fairly early on and the fact the detective in the book couldn’t add 2+2 together to find the murderer was extremely frustrating. Hopefully book 2 is a better read

This was a good story that was well written. The characters were believable, and I like the way they interacted with each other. It made you feel like you knew them. I recognised places in the book, and have been to a few of them myself. I hope the next book will be as good.

I couldn't put this book down once I'd started reading, easy to read and I like the fact there's no big chunky paragraphs. Knowing the area meant I could really visualise what I was reading which made it even better for me. Been a lover of crime/thrillers this was right up my street.

Average .. enjoyed being able to visualise the places involved being from Leeds. But writing was bit childlike at times and opening sex/ murder scene more cringy than shocking .

Enjoyed this 1st book by Lee. I live in Leeds and was like "oh I know where that is!" Etc which was quite cool.
Mia is such an annoying character and continues to be in other books.

I read this because a) its local but also because of the good reviews. But being honest l really struggled with the style of writing. Compared to that of a professional author, the writing is very simple and school teacher style. I didn't agree with the albeit yorkshire slang but having "mi sister ' rather than 'my sister' I found to be annoying. I tried two books and the story line is ok. Just can't get along with the writing style.
