Once in a Blue Moon, fame and fortune actually take a backseat to friendship and love.
Jeanne Madison has earned her PhD at 26 and secured funding to find and excavate a treasure-laden 18th century caravel off the Yucatan coast. Between her mentor and a handful of graduate students, years of study, and all the government cooperation a marine archaeologist could want, she'll find the Luna Azul--or Blue Moon--by hook or by crook. When a tight budget forces her to hire Captain Gabriel Avery and his rust-bucket, Fallen Angel, the comely PhD's not sure it won't be the latter. The incorrigible skipper has the swarthy good looks of a Hollywood pirate and pushes every last one of Jeanne's buttons--even some she didn't know she had. His history of brawls, bullion, and well, romantic escapades may well sink the whole expedition. As the race for the Luna Azul treasure with an unscrupulous competitor gets heated, more than the fajitas start to sizzle. Soon Jeanne, the captain, and her crew must take a gigantic leap of faith, one that may salvage more than gold--perhaps even a hardened heart.
Linda Windsor is the best-selling, award-winning author of more than thirty novels, with more than a million books in print. Her most recent work includes Healer and Thief, the first two volumes in the Brides of Alba series, and the early Irish Celtic Fires of Gleannmara trilogy.
I loved this series! They were great! Normally I am drawn more to historical fiction, but even though these were set in modern time they did talk a lot about Mexican traditions and history which really interested me. I learned a lot about Mexican culture in these and how to say new words in Spanish. I also was very proud of myself because I understood a lot of the Spanish in it because I have taken a couple classes. The Mexican culture, traditions and language have fascinated me for some time now, so these books were very easy reads for me.
The romance in this book was good, and I like how Linda Windsor ties Christian faith in with it. Dr. Jeanne Madison already had astounding faith in Christ, but Gabe Avery had fallen off the path some time ago. Which is Ironic because his ships name was The Fallen Angel. As their attraction to each other leads to more than just friendship, Avery discovers Gods love once again and is given the chance to have the life he once wanted and gave up on.
I hope my opinion on the book and the very short summary I gave will help you decide whether you want to read Blue Moon or not. Happy Reading:)
This was an OK read, but unevenly paced and frankly really sappy (I know it's a romance, but...) Some sections go into quite a lot of description and not much action, then all of a sudden there's a paragraph with a major event but the details are strangely glossed over.
This is billed as a Christian romance, and Jeanne talks about higher powers and feelings of God's guidance, yet nothing of backing up those "feelings" with reading the Bible. There are many references to Catholic ritual (but from the Mexicans on the team, not her). I also had a really hard time with how quickly she fell for Gabe without having a real heart to heart about her faith (again, just a few vague conversations)
I loved the setting - diving for a sunken treasure!!! - but my vast research (a/k/a watching too many shows on Discovery) tells ms this just wasn't realistically portrayed.
This is the last book in the Moonstruck series about the Madison siblings. I really liked all of the characters, not just Jeanne and Gabe but the colorful supporting characters, as well. Jeanne is kind, smart, driven, and lives out her faith. Gabe is the “fallen angel” his boat is named after but even he can’t resist her. This is an entertaining story about a treasure hunt set in an exotic locale. The description of the various settings felt real, the humor is light-hearted, the romance is sweet, and the faith is real. As Jeanne leads a team to locate a sunken treasure, various obstacles pop up-- including a nemesis from Gabe’s past. Overall, this is an enjoyable ending to the series. It can be read as a stand-alone but Jeanne’s two brothers make appearances in this book.
The third book in Linda Windsor's Moonstruck series. It was a fun series altogether and perhaps I rated them a little low but I loved some of her other books so much more. Jeanne Madison, a marine archaeologist, has come to Mexico to look for treasure. She hires Captain Gabriel Avery.
Ienjoyed this book. It has a different plot from the books I have been reading. It showed how having faith in God's word can help you in difficult situations. I learned about searching for sunken treasures and artifacts. It was an interesting quick read.
I made it half way through chapter 16 (audiobook) and I just do not want to finish this book. I don't care for any of the characters. I lose track of the storyline and don't care. I think it is time to give up on this book.
