The universe is insistent on making John Felix “Puss” Trellia hero. He doesn’t think he is, or ever could be. Yet every time he winds up in danger, he acts like the hero he thinks he cannot be. From the first pages, where he is attacked by a “mad” dog, he freezes, but the people around him see him as standing between them and the danger. He believes he’s given the St.George Medal for Valor under false pretenses, but he goes along with the War Bond tour with his handler, Corporal Svetlana Andreyevna Bergman. When he gets dragooned into taking Sveta to a wedding as her date, the rumors fly that they are an item. Will love blossom between these two? How can it, when Puss is stationed in a variety of foreign places. Can a relationship be made by mail? This exciting novel by the co-author of the Doctor Gribbleflotz books will give you an answer you might not expect.
Ring of Fire är ett koncept som verkligen inte borde fungera. Men det gör det. Intrigerna är sällan speciellt intressanta, men vanligen hjärtevärmande. Denna är inte ett undantag.
Only the music stories from David Carrico are comparable to this very fine book. This definitely read more as a novel than a collection of short stories from the 1632 Ring of Fire books. As with all of the 1632 books you need to have read at least some of the main line to understand who some of the players are in background of the story. Knowing who becky is and the Hangman regiment add to the story. Not to mention what's an uptimer and how this universe came to be. but the story almost stands alone due to Kerryn Offord's skill and style. Read it, you will enjoy it.
MP Sgt. John "Puss" Trelli already has a rescued stray dog, a trained warhorse, & a cat back home with his parents in Grantville, but after attending a wedding as her "plus one", he impregnates a Finnish corporal in the Army Press Office. Marrying her by proxy, he installs her in his childhood bedroom before returning to his duty station in Dresden. As the newlyweds become acquainted thru writing, their relationship deepens, they have a daughter, & they finally admit their love for one another.
I hardly ever leave a review on books I read on Amazon but I think this one deserve it, the story is less "actiony" than the main story line but the characters are lovable and watching how uptime and downtime interact with one another is always quite interesting. I can't wait for the authors next entry in the series.
This book is filled with heroic figures. My only criticism is that sections should have been told from the point of view of some of the other heroes. Especially the cat, the dog, and the horse.
Enjoyable book with many fun parts. The character development is well done and the characters are real.. Kerryn Offord does well at intermixing in her plot the events going on elsewhere in the 1632 universe. This book grabs you and makes sure you cannot put it down. Highly recommended.
Good and entertaining saga in the 1632 universe. Again, turning to barely mentioned characters from the original story. Fun read that injected some humor and then some horrendous incidents into the story and plot twist.
To me this is one of the best in the Ring of Fire series. Took me a while to get into it but soon got to love the well drawn characters and balance between everyday life and action scenes.
This novel follows the adventures of two young military people growing into their roles and discovering the difference between a media hero and a real life hero doing their best in war and life.
