The Whickertons in Love #3

Lady Christinas irritierend magischer Kuss (Die verliebten Whickertons)

Rate this book
In this enemies-to-lovers regency romance by USA Today bestselling and HOLT Medallion winning author BREE WOLF, a fierce lady and her far from ordinary husband find that an accidental marriage can have its benefits after all.

A lady on a mission.
A misunderstood rogue.
And a most compromising moment.

England 1803: LADY CHRISTINA BEAUMONT, daughter to the EARL OF WHICKERTON, is on a mission. A mission to protect her best friend from being forced into a marriage that would see her delicate heart broken and her sensibilities shocked. Deep in debt, Lord Hartmore agreed to marry his daughter to a scoundrel. A man who grew up far from London’s high society. A man who does not know how to treat a lady. A man most vile and utterly unsuitable.

A man who cannot be deemed a gentleman.

With one glance, Christina can see that the only reason Mr. Sharpe intends to marry her friend is to gain entrance into London’s high society...and she will raise hell before allowing that to happen. His emerald green eyes and teasing smile cannot fool her, and so, she concocts a plan to protect her friend. Unfortunately, Christina finds herself falling prey to another’s plan before her own can fall into place.

THORNE SHARPE is a self-made man. Growing up with nothing, he earned his first coins in boxing matches. However, knowing that if he ever wanted to make something of himself, he needed to rely on his wits instead of his fists. Saving what little he earned, he began to invest, always keeping his eyes and ears open, determined to get ahead in the world.

A society match promises the necessary influence Thorne needs in order to make a difference, a difference for all those still struggling to survive each and every day. However, while the young lady he had his eye on appears to be kind and good-hearted—although somewhat fearful—Thorne finds his gaze linger upon her spirited friend instead, a siren with golden locks and eyes that shoot daggers at him at every occasion.

So, when opportunity presents itself, Thorne does not hesitate.
He never has.
And he won’t start now.
He knows what he wants, and what he wants is...her.

2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 stars.

Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss is the third book in Bree Wolf's Wickertons in Love series and is a historical romance.

I'll be entirely honest, this book was a struggle for me, especially the beginning. Bree Wolf has a habit of writing heroines that show that they're 'strong' or 'independent' by constantly snapping at the hero of the book, which also serves as the conflict to overcome in the plot, and I am beyond the endurance of my patience with it. It does not make them strong or assertive to treat others poorly. What it makes them is abusive and I am sick of it. Her elitist attitude and need to keep putting him down really bothered me. And sure, she realized she wasn't treating him as se should, but did the stop her? Nope. I could not like her character, did not sympathize with her, or find her redeemable. I would like to see her the author write a different profile of female character, she's used this one several times over now. Thorne is not blameless in bad behavior either, he does withhold information and puts her in an uncomfortable position. But my biggest question about him was how he could possibly find her charming when she was reapeatedly dismissive and antagonistic in their interactions.

I rounded up to 3 stars rather than down to 2 because the book did improve toward the second half. But because Christina is just a variation of a character Wolf has written several times now, I was pretty tempted to round down  I'm not much a fan of this one and am on the fence about continuing with the series.

I would like to thank the author, Bree Wolf, for sharing an eARC of Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss with me. This is my honest review.

Another Wicked Whickerton finds love. A very well written charmingl romance, which I finished in the early hours of the morning. I adored Thorne who was toe curlingly gorgeous, assumptions were made about him & each time he proved them wrong whilst all the time finding the best in everything. I began by finding Christina to be a complete snob & her assumptions about Thorne because he was a Northerner & a commoner had my hackles rising. However the more I read the more I grew to like her & my opinion of her did change. I thoroughly enjoyed their verbal banter & the chemistry between them went from simmering to sizzling. The wonderful characters had depth, I loved Sam & of course Grandma Edie is utterly delightful & just has to meddle. A very well paced book with darker moments but also moments, which were heart warming
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Heroine annoyed me with her compressed feelings toward Thorne (who was awesome) she was very judgemental from the beginning and I just could not warm to her very much.

Ooo la la! Magical!
Psychic grandmothers, the prejudiced ton, love at first sight, unbidden tears, homeless children that pull at your heartstrings, kidnappers, and that’s not all. That irritatingly magical kiss! Ooo la la!

Was Christina’s grandmother a psychic? I am inclined to believe it. It was uncanny how her matchmaking skills were spot on. And devious? She purposely set Christina up to be compromised by Thorne although nothing untoward actually happened.

I heartily enjoyed watching Christina and Thorne as they bantered with each other. I felt Thorne’s ache for Christina as he weathered the prejudice that many harbored for him, Christina included.

However, Thorne was smitten the moment he laid eyes on Christina from across the ballroom floor. She however was determined to set him straight. She would protect her friend, Sarah, from him at whatever cost. She believed her friend was doomed to marry Thorne even though Sarah’s father was only in negotiations with Thorne and Thorne had not yet agreed to anything. And would not after seeing Christina.

Another plot to this story brings unbidden tears to my eyes. You would have to be heartless if it doesn’t. Homeless children being left on someone’s door step. Crippled children used as pawns. If this part of the story does not melt your heart then you must be heartless.

In the end, we see a happily ever after thank the stars! And another surprise! I can hardly wait for the next book in this series!

Some redeeming qualities, but this book is pretty much the story of a girl who refuses everything and a man who is one step up from a rapist. He deliberately compromises her, doesn't leave when she tells him to, then spends 75% of the novel making her mad. Her on the other hand, she spends 75% of the novel being mad at him for literally no reason except that she's a cow and she likes picking fights. This is not a healthy relationship.

A marvelous story, it has a little bit of mystery, intrigue, kidnapping, and family. Mr. Throne Sharpe spies Lady Christina Beaumont across the ballroom and he wants her. While she appears to hate him. although he does not understand why. He needs a wife to help with his fight. He has been in negotiations with Lord Hartmore for his daughter Sarah's hand. Until he saw Christina. He is besotted. He has been invited to her sister's wedding reception, but no one knows who invited him. She is compromised by Thorne although nothing happens. Thorne is a good man, kind and caring of others. Not at all like she thought he was. There are several stories woven into the main one and boy, do they have surprises. Their attraction for each other is strong.
The author surrounds you in a mist of disinterest and snobbishness from the ton. She has amazed me with her prose and understanding of human nature. The characters seem to reflect that understanding. I loved the way the family supported each other. The book kept your interest throughout. You were kept in suspense as you waited to find out the next step. The tension was difficult sometimes. I highly recommend this novel for a wonderful and loving tale.
I received this ARC from the author and willingly reviewed and enjoyed it.

A fairly slow-moving romance, my heart went out to Thorne Sharpe as he has to face the verbal slings and arrows of society. Drawn to him in a strange way, Lady Christina Beaumont tells herself that she is trying to protect her friend from a marriage that causes Sarah to tremble with fear. Thorne fought his way up from the gutter with his fists, and eventually became a wealthy man whose aim is to improve working conditions in the cotton mills. Christina's disdain for him only made him more determined to marry her. The plot is good but it is very drawn out with long discussions that appear to go in circles. The last chapters in this novel have some excitement and one can only hope that Lady Sarah will eventually find a match to appease her greedy father. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss by Bree Wolf, is a delightful story. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. I received a free copy and have chosen to leave a review. This story comes out in July.

Mr. Thorne Sharpe and Lady Christina Beaumont are fabulous together. I love their interactions and their developing love for one another.

This story is an enemies to lovers story that has devoted family, a kidnapping, long lost mother, learning to trust, guilt, and so much more to the journey of a HEA. Definitely recommend this story. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I received a free copy of the Regency England romance Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss: The Whickertons book 3 by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely.
A family drama nine years before results in the strong minded and outspoken Lady Christina Beaumont, daughter of Lord Whickerton, keeping her creative writing a secret and mistrusting both men's intensions as well as arranged marriages until the plans of the wealthy self-made entrepreneur Thorne Sharpe for social reform via marrying her timid friend Lady Sarah stirs Christina's protective
> instincts, challenges her knowledge of what makes " A Good Man", and ultimately brings her everything she thought she could never have. This relatively clean novel contains more of Grandma Edie's not so subtle matchmaking, highlights scene of important Whickerton family events, contains sensationalism in the form of a kidnapping including a scene with graphic violence, blends in the darker themes of illegitimacy and struggling with poverty but provides balance in the happy blended Whickerton family interactions and a heartwarming ending.

I read the story and it was a different twist for me. I thought the book has more narrative from the writer. The dialogue is clear. The book reads at a medium pace. The book has some heat that seems to brew among the two main characters. The book brings entertainment to the reader who loves to curl up to a good book at night.

Still cruising right along with the Wickertons! This time, a man who makes his money is out for a bride. The bride ends up being the friend of our female, and she decides to put a stop to it. In the midst of it all, she falls for him.

I like that the stories have a continuing arc, and a mischievous grandmother who is setting all her granddaughters up with these guys who are absolute babes who will take care of their women and let them be independent and fierce.

Giving a star down, because I felt he felt a tad underdeveloped.

Loved Christina and Thorne's story!

I must say I was extremely impatient to read this book after the ending of Leonora's story, and was delighted when I "won" an ARC copy from Ms Wolf to read while I wait for my pre-order to arrive in July.

After seeing the way Christina despised Mr Sharpe in the previous book, I have to admit I relished the idea of their fiery relationship. And boy, they didn't disappoint! Their conversations were frank, and their chemistry bubbled like lava! For a "clean" book, I sure loved the way their kisses exploded off the pages.

The addition of one unexpected character was delightful, and I'm glad Christina was able to move past that particular predicament. Said character was vital to the role of healing and acceptance in both Christina and Thorne's lives.

Of course Grandma Edie was thick in the midst of everything, and once again I admired her meddling. 😉

I'm looking forward to Harriet's story... it looks like it'll be a doozie!

I struggled a little to get through this one. Was not a fan of the snobbery or of the concentration on working conditions of white people without acknowledgement of the damage the empire was doing to bipoc people.

Will she be able to shred her blinders …

I confess that from the near beginning I was close to shut this book as I much disliked the heroine high handed and haughty attitude.
She was so full of misconceptions and dung, seing those under their ranks like not deserving and only abusing cheating fellows.
I persisted in my reading but the damage has already be done, I have been unable to warm up to Christina. Her prejudice about people she does not know, her lofty view of others made her an unredeemable Shrew in my POV.
I tried but her attitude and patronizing about he never being a gentleman but a lowly commoner, has me gritting my teeth.
Sure she by the end atones for her haughty actions but I never did really come to like her because of her dismissive acts against a man who deserved much more than the ton fops born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Worse, she comes from a family which has a different view of life, more progressive, yet she moves like any ton’s people, seing herself as better than the others, full of prejudices and judging others because of the lottery of life.
Thorne is sure far from perfect, he raised himself from the gutter, fought for his survival and now he wants to bring awareness about the plight of the poorest, those without say about their destiny. Why he came seeking a wife from the ton. But despite his wealth opening many doors, his birth is seen as a black mark against those people. And Christina is like the others, she sees him as below herself because commoners are beast and barbarian, when the society’s men are of course all gentlemen.
I suppose he is attracted to her as instead of whispering behind his back like most, she spites her venom to his face. Yet, I do not understand what he finds charming in a woman who deems him undeserving of her presence, always scorning him for his birth.
He is not blameless and at a time, he merits some of her ire when he tricked her, still time and time again he demonstrated he is as much if not more honorable than most men, whatever their birth’s origins.

Oh, those wicked, wicked,Whickertons! They make me laugh!

Bree Wolf continues her delightful series,The Whickertons in Love, with book three Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss: Christina's story. In this book, Bree Wolf demonstrates her wonderful storytelling skills as she chronicles one of the Whickertons younger daughter's journey towards true love. With each novel in the series, Bree reveals more about Whickertons' family as a whole. As you read, you are surrounded by the warmth and love of this tight-knit, however slightly eccentric Regency era family. After all, it is well known that the Whickertons marry for love! What you learn in Christina's story is how much "help" they receive in order to make that happen. In the Whickertons household, Cupid has a not so secret helper in the form of Grandma Edie!

I find Grandma Edie to be one of the most imaginative support characters Bree Wolf has created. As a support character, Lady Edie remains in the background, yet it is impossible to ignore her whenever she is in a room. Even when she is snoring in the background, I could not help but smile as I imagined what mischief she was contemplating! You can bet Grandma Edie has something up her sleeve! It is sure to be a laugh out loud moment when she gets involved.

Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss has a Jane Austin Pride and Prejudice feel to it. The historical aspect of class discrimination and the plight of the poor children before child labor laws were ever heard of figures prominently in this story. Bree Wolf's plots always include incidents of women struggling with problems created by a male dominated world where women have little rights except those granted by the men in their life. Most of Bree Wolf's female characters are strong, intelligent, and talented women who are able to rise above these limitations. However, in Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss, the differences between the rich and poor classes, especially the children, are also emphasized. I found the look at the period of poor houses and child labor an interesting part of the overall story. Spoiler Alert: I personally enjoyed how Thorne Sharpe's crusade for children of the poor triggered an epiphany for Christina as she realized just how different her life could have been if circumstances of her birth were different.

As always, you can count on Bree Wolf to bring the romance. Christina and Thorne's story simmers with romance that has a touch of spice. The chemistry between the main characters is almost palpable! The snarky banter the two lovers engage in only serves to increase the heat between them. Their journey to true love is so well-written. It is as though you are living the interaction, not reading it. It is simply marvelous to experience.

I highly recommend you grab a copy of Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss for yourself. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss Christina's Story is a well written, sweet, clean and enticing just enough to make the reader feel she is living the story herself. Bree Wolf has such a way with words, you feel the things Christina feels.

Christina Whickerton has always wanted to be a published author. But she neverp attempts to achieve that goal. Instead, she meets up with best friend Sarah who meets ng her would-be intended fiance at a ton party.

Thorne Sharpe isn't a ton gentleman. He works for a living and when he's not on the prowl for a wife, he's desperately trying to talk to the ton about helping to save the various cotton mills workers, both young and old, by getting the ton to hold meetings so Thorne can share his plan of how to make the mills safer. However, in addition to the ton's help, he's working on an arrangement between Lord Hartmore and himself for Hartmore's daughter, Sarah. Sarah, however, is absolutely terrified of Mr. Sharpe but due to her family's ... misfortune, feels she has no choice but to marry Mr. Sharpe, even though Sarah visibly shakes and stumbles over her words every time she sees Mr. Sharpe.

There's a kidnapping, a sneaky grandma, a wedding and an unexpected child.

This book seriously held my attention while I gleefully read it. Ms. Wolf wrote well developed characters, including most of the side characters. These characters make you fall in love with them through thick and thin.

This is my second Bree Wolf book. I like her style, the sweet teasing between the main characters, the gentle hook Ms. Wolf utilizes to grab and hold her read enthralled with her book. I definitely foresee more books by Bree Wolf to be added to my to-be-read book list.

Meant to be!
Thorne is a self made honorable man seeking a wife of the Ton to open doors that would aide the plight of the working class period! Christina is a pampered young lady with her head in the clouds as a secret story writer! She is a loyal friend perhaps too loyal? One look at Thorne and she's decided he's the absolute worse man for her friend Sarah!
If she said "He's not a gentlemen" one more time I wanted to slap her! She had little to compare for herself but she knew how a so called gentlemen treated her sister! Christina aka Chris calls herself protecting Sarah her best friend but her motives are much deeper and consistently lies to herself. When the situation they find themselves in might lead to scandal Chris can't walk away yet she blames Thorne instead for what happens next! This should have been a shared blame! Chris acts extremely immature at times! Thorne acts honorable almost 100 percent of the time except for a secret he carries because above all he wants Chris and has from the first moment he saw her not political just her! This story has some suspense in it as well as a fought for HEA! Chris is definitely not my favorite sister but she has a few moments! Thorne is definitely a gentlemen Ton or not! He was almost too good for her definitely patient!!! Five stars is for him!!! I received an ARC copy for this review!!

Oh my goodness but Ms. Wolf has done it again! I absolutely loved this book it is such an example of how she knows to be a matchmaker with her characters! This story brings the daughter of the wicked Whickerton's , Christina to life. People of the Ton think the Whickerton's are a wicked bunch because they don't conform to the rules of the wealthy members of the Ton. They don't care what is said about them because it is most important to them that their children marry for love. As in the previous books in this series we get to go in-depth and learn more about one of the siblings. With 5 daughters and 1 son the Whickerton's are an amazing family with lots of situations that they get into, especially with a meddling grandmother who always seems to know things that no one else does. Christina is bound and bent that she is going to save her best friend Sara from the man who is going to marry her. After all he is only marrying her in order to get his lower case life the connections he needs with the wealthy Ton. This story is full of laughs, romance, and even some suspense! I always enjoy Ms. Wolf's books and can hardly wait for the next one to be released!
I received a free download of this book from the publisher. But this review is my own honest opinion of a book I thoroughly enjoyed and wanted to share with others..

Christine better known as Chris, won't let her best friend marry a commoner just for her connections no matter how rich he may be. Standing up to Thorne Sharp is surprisingly easy for Chris she might even find it enjoyable he may be common but his wit is sharp. When Chris finds herself compromised during her sister's wedding she agrees to marry the commoner herself even though she knows her parents would never force her. Soon Chris begins to wonder if she had done her friend a disservice by taking her place as Thorne's bride or was she selfish wanting him for herself. Thorne knew when he first saw Chris she was what he wanted and he always got what he wanted, another thing he has always wanted was a family one like Chris's full of love and always having your back, the only one he had was Samatha his beautiful five-year-old daughter someone he hadn't told anyone about. The day after the wedding they travel to their new home where Chris discovers Sam she feels betrayed she thought he could be trusted but now isn't sure. Mant problems erupt in their home making it harder to really make a marriage from the wedding. Chris and Thorne have to face Sam's mother coming to their home, a family visit, and a kidnapping, Can they create the family they both want? I received this as an ARC and this is my honest review, I loved it.....

*** Enemies to Lovers ***
Amazing read. I really enjoyed the banter between Chris and Thorne. They baited each other every time they were together. Chris had unjustly believed many lies about a self-made man not of the ton. After a while of getting to know him, he was not what she thought. I admired Thorne for his patience and understanding when the ton prejudged him unfairly. Although it hurt him, he understood and gave them the benefit of the doubt. When it came to Chris, from the moment he laid eyes on her he knew she was the one he desired. I love Chris's grandmother. Either she is blessedly intuitive or she has someone working for her. She happens to know things before everyone else does. She is a lovable and loving grandmother. She is subtle and yet direct. A talent for sure. Trust was the major theme and how it was so difficult for Chris to have it for Thorne. I enjoyed the fairie story that Chris told Samantha. In the end it saved her life. An excellent story. I highly recommend it.

I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read
Entertaining
Funny
Happily Ever After
Page-turner
Unpredictable
Wonderful characters

Well, well, well, ... the golden Christina is a bit of a snob, it looks like. Giggle! Of course, it's hard to tell if she truly is one, or is just acting upon woefully incomplete information. Thorne Sharpe an all-around excellent, self-made man - with an exquisite name, by the way - is negotiating to marry the skittish Miss Sarah Mortensen. What we know, but Christina obviously doesn't is that he is not an insensitive boor who would pressure an unwilling maiden into marriage. With a bit of scheming, i.e., meddling by the formidable Grandma Edie, Christina decides to take the most logical course of action - to marry Thorne herself. It's immediately evident that that is not a selfless sacrifice. I mean - considering how overall awesome Thorne is - if Christina continued to maintain that she was the sacrificial lamb, she would be certifiably insane. There is a minor twist, just enough to keep it interesting ... Without spoiling the novel, I can safely say that you are going to love the characters even more after threads of the story get disentangled. The already paired up Whickertons make a welcome appearance - not only because the reader is intrigued by what happened after their HEA, but also because they are instrumental in the denouement.

Christina Beaumont is determined to protect her best friend from an undesirable marriage to a scoundrel. In doing so, she is found in a compromising position with said scoundrel and the adventure begins. Thorne Sharpe, the scoundrel in question, comes to London to find a society match and garner influence among the lords that would help him in his plight to help those poor and in need who struggle every day to survive. Thorne is intrigued by Christina’s fiery spirit and decides he must have her rather than the meek timid daughter that lord Hartmore is trying to push on him.
Thorne has a secret he is unwilling to disclose to Christina for fear she may call off the wedding. Christina is a no-nonsense straight talker when it comes to conversations with Thorne but when it comes to her feelings about why she is really going through with the marriage, she is confused and unsure of herself.
The story takes the two on a path of self discovery, intrigue and surprising revelations and even a kidnapping but in the end there is a HEA. I can’t wait to read the next story in the series. Harriet and the Duke.

Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss is book number 3 in the Whickertons in Love series. Christina will do anything to protect her best friend Sarah. Knowing Sarah’s father has put her in a very bad position of marrying her off to pay off the family debts, has Christina on high alert. Seeing Mr. Thorne Sharpe prepared to take her friend away forever kicks her plans into motion.

Thorne knows that Lord Hartmore has basically lost the family fortune and needs to secure a match for his daughter to get them out of the red. Sarah has little interest in him though and he finds his eye moving toward her friend Christina. He seeks her out and after a compromising encounter vows to make her his.

Christina’s family has only ever married for love, will she be able to live with herself for breaking history? Thorne is very interested in Christina but knows she might be only interested in him to save her friend. Is she worth his time? How will she react to his secret if she agrees to marry him?

Another great read from Ms. Wolf, I love a good historically set novel. Good character flow. Can be read as a standalone. 4 1/2 stars for this latest release
