The middle child of the Hawkins clan, Jereth has always felt the need to create something that was just his. This need—and the impulsive actions he often takes to satisfy that need—has earned him colorful titles such as “rebel” or “wild child” amongst most everyone who knew him. Marrying a stranger in Vegas seems right up his ally and his family probably wouldn’t bat an eye at the news—if they knew about it.
Latonya Black lives a mostly satisfying existence working in her family’s business and caring for her adolescent son. Taking care of everyone else keeps her busy, but not too busy to realize she could use some male attention. On a trip to Sin City in celebration of her cousin’s nearing wedding, she comes across an enigmatic man who sweeps her away with his outlandish proposal. What follows is the give and take of a budding relationship between two people who could have it all if they just got out of their own way.
Chencia C. Higgins is just a girl from Texas who has made it her mission to create stories in which sassy, southern Black women are loved out loud. Her Carina Adores debut, D’Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding, was a New York Times best romance of 2022. When she isn't hunkered down in her writing cave, Chencia can be found with her nose in a book, saving recipes on Pinterest for things she’ll never make, and dreaming about travelling even further south for the winter.
The timeliness was so confusing, one minute they are celebrating nine months of being married, next things a few chapters down the line Tonya is making a decision saying it was a blissful eight months of being married but at that point it had been months after the nine months celebration so the timeliness made it difficult to keep up with the story.
Also Tonya was so nonchalant about a lot of things which out of the blue became this huge problem for her but all along, she was just relaxed with Jereth living in her world, he shared absolutely nothing and she was content with that, what an unbothered hun.
Not important but they both dressed like clowns, the colour pallete mentioned plus just the outfits in general.
I love the family but Jereth really confused me, his reasoning just didn't make up for his behaviour especially considering how he got attached to Tonya's family.
I have been a fan of Chencia for a while but the growth in this book shows how she has evolved as a writer. The layers to the characters were so rich. Jereth had so much going on that you had to wait to discover as the story unfolded. Tonya also had layers in herself and the relationships close to her. They both healed something in each other and they were downright freaky sneaky! Loved this book and love the Hawkins Brothers. Do I smell a Black Sisters series next?
This was my first book by this author and it did not disappoint. Tanya and Jerth met and the chemistry between them was strong. They had some problems between the both of them, but in the end love one. I enjoyed every bit if this book and look forward to reading more by this author!!! I definitely would live to read more about Toy, she is my type of girl!!!

Great wrap up to a tale of 3 brothers and their journey to their HEA with the person they deemed "The One." While each story was vastly different, what they all had in common was chemistry between the two leads. Jereth and Tonya's story was the most unique of the 3, and the couple I rooted for the most.
I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series first, though you really don’t have to. This story pulled every emotion possible from me! So refreshing...
I wasn't quite sure exactly what was going on with Jereth based on the previous two books, yet he seemed very mysterious and private. The fact that he asked a total stranger (aside from talking to her for a few hours at a bar) to marry him was a bit of a shocker. Then hid the marriage from his family, except his older brother, was even more of a shock.
Tonya seemed like such a sweet mom and I liked her. She only wanted the best for herself and son and there's nothing wrong with that.
I loved her baby sister Natasha. I hope there's a book with her and Boobies story because I'm almost 100% sure I'll love it.
I was a bit thrown off that Toya didn't like Tonya and Jereth being together. I get having your sisters best interest at heart, but once you see she's happy, let it be. Plus, Toya is the one who introduced them in the first place, so I don't understand it🤷🏾♀️.
This was a wild ride of a roller coaster story and although I have whip lash, I enjoyed it.
Jereth was impulsive but he was the perfect match for Tonya. I spent most of this story frustrated with Jereth and his decision to keep Tonya in the dark about his past and personal information. However, when he realized his error and made things right I understood his argument. Sabrina got the shock of her life when Tonya set her in place. Which was necessary because she tends to overstep boundaries in her children's relationships. Evan and his fiancee were a trip and so messy. Overall I really enjoyed this series and how it was written. I loved how the author revisited specific moments and conversations amongst the characters to make something that wasn't clear in one story understandable in the sibling's story line. Very good series!

I enjoyed reading Jereth and Tonya's story. I thought Jereth was so sweet to Tonya, but when it took him so long to let his family know he had a wife I was really irritated with him. But he redeemed himself in the end. I liked Tonya, I felt she let a lot of things go on too long before she got mad or tired of it. I'm glad both Jereth and Tonya worked things out in the end. Great story!
This book covered some serious views of marriage for the husband perspective. I enjoyed the challenges presented beyond the physical that can harm a marriage.
What happens when two strangers decide to get married in Vegas on the same night they meet for the first time? You get a sexy, hilarious tale with Chencia C. Higgin's latest release, To Break A Vow.
Jereth Hawkins is the middle Hawkins sibling and impulsive AF. His latest action? Asking Latonya Black to marry him after one conversation. Latonya is in Vegas for a celebration but with a nudge from her sister, is open to some male company. Spending the night with said man, sure. Getting married? Not quite what she had in mind. However, she agrees to marry Jereth and from then on, we're taken on the journey with these newlyweds as they navigate their new life together. While they get along well and there's definitely one hell of an attraction between them, it's not all easygoing. They don't have the strongest foundation, to begin with, so add in meddling family members, lack of communication and a partner who isn't exactly forthcoming with a lot of information, you have quite the hurdle to overcome.
Latonya was focused on her family and her business, fully committing to a man wasn't on her radar. I appreciated the fact though that she wasn't fully closed off to it and when the opportunity presented itself, she was willing to give it a try. Jereth was a walking contradiction in a lot of ways, and it drew me more to him. Yes, he was impulsive but that was because he trusted his gut above all else. He was protective and open with his feelings towards Tonya but also very guarded with other areas in his life. He had a way of making you feel at ease that you would forget what you needed to ask or didn't know about him. There was definitely more than met the eye and though I was quite annoyed with how he handled quite a few things, he's my favorite Hawkins brother. While this is the third book in the Vow Series about the Hawkins brothers, this can be read as a standalone.
To some, it may seem that these two jumped into their relationship recklessly and it wasn't built to last, but for Jereth and Tonya, love eclipsed all. There are many layers to both characters and the overall story that I do not wish to spoil and encourage you to read and check out for yourself. I found To Break A Vow to be sexy and entertaining.
P.S. The chapter names? *chef's kiss* PERFECTION! I laughed every, single time.

Bruh... first and foremost I just have to say that I am filled with emotions after reading this book. This was perfectly written, describing how we so easily and unknowingly hurt those that truly deserve our love due to past hurts and disappointments from those we thought were worthy but the love couldn’t be reciprocated. I felt the pain, anger and frustration of Tonya and the confusion which begot Jereth’s frustration and pain. This, as does all of Chencia’s books, forces us, well me at least, to take a look within myself and ask, "what baggage am I holding on to that could cost me the love that I so, subtly but, desperately feel is out there for me?" I NEEEEED a sequel to their new life of consciously making their marriage work, not of need but of sheer, genuine deep and true love for one another. PLEASE!! And thank you 🥰

To Break a Vow is the third book in The Vow Series and the first I have read by this author. Jereth and Latonya are fabulous characters that get married on the night that they meet in Vegas. This is their story of how to survive marriage with a not-so-perfect stranger. With a lot of laughter and emotions, this book keeps your attention all the way through. I loved the names of the chapters as well. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Whew this novel took me a journey I was t ready to get off. Chencia did the darn thing with this book. The character development me & the overall strength of both Tonya’s & Jereth’s characters were everything. Do I smell another series coming w/ the rest of the Black Sisters 🧐
This book had me so in my feelings, I put it down, for about 20 minutes, and had to work myself up to finish it. This story was well written, and really did enjoy it. I can't wait to see what's next what's next.
The first sentence had me intrigued but the characters, the way the story unfolded, all the unsuspected details made me happy I’d purchased the book. I hope you enjoy it as well but if you don’t recommend it to someone you know will.
Man this book had me up all night reading, this was a very interesting book love Tanya and Jereth. I really would mind a follow up story of these 2 souls
