Chew: Season Two

Rate this book
The world is still reeling after Zakaria’s miracle cure transformed flesh-eating monsters back into humans. Under constant threat of pain and punishment, Biters are forced to work off their debt to society, and only the strongest can survive this new normal.
After surviving Clive’s Carnival, Luke and Allison trade hasty goodbyes and part ways. While Luke adapts to military life, Allison returns home to Milltown, Ohio—a city Will promises to turn into a promised land for all Biters.
In boot camp, Luke lives under the thumb of the post-prion United States Army. When he gets a chance at freedom, Luke has to quickly decide where his loyalties lie.
Meanwhile, one calamity after another tests Allison’s resourcefulness, her will to survive, and eventually, her humanity itself.

Still throughly enjoying this series. It’s a very nice change of pace from the typical zombie standard.

Glad we got more of a dual pov going as well so we could delve more into Luke and Allie both. When Luke was first dropped into the first novel I was still very much unsure of his character but this one helped web his storyline nicely into the two worlds.

Fast paced story, wicked nice character creating and fresh story arc that’ll leave you desperate for a happy ending.

There should be a sixth star for such brilliant page turners! When not only all the components of a great book come together (stunning story, fascinating characters, perfect pacing, thrilling story, great writing), but there is also an abundance of deep psychological insight, giving the book a grim realism which can shake you to the core. The second installment of Chew is all of that and much more: it brings the story forward, into unexpected directions, turning the series into top-quality post-cure zombie horror! Luke, Will, and most of all Allison, can, and probably will, break the reader's heart. There's so much mystery, so much going-on in the backstages, I couldn't stop reading. I wasn't simply drawn in to this troubled "family" trying to survive after the apocalypse has happened - I was riveted! And, as Part II of Chew shows, the zombie apocalypse hasn't happened yet. For those who prefer their horror realistic, unpredictable and never, absolutely never, boring, Chew is a must-read!

I received a copy of this book from the author via Booksirens, in exchange for an honest review.

Chew: Season Two picks up virtually where season one left off. Allison, Kid and Will have parted ways with Luke; with the former heading towards Will's grand plan for a biter community; and the latter heading off to join the army after being drafted. I'll admit, I was super worried about Georgie, but for now at least, he's been taken care of and my anxiety has eased. I've become so invested in Al, Will and Luke's stories, and the added depth that their characters got in this season was phenomenal. Kid as well, it was just a small thing, but I feel like it speaks volumes and I have my theories about a certain thing she's been able to do. I loved the character growth in Luke, where before he was pretty agreeable and seemed a little less confident in his abilities and the decisions he had to make, in this instalment he really grew a back bone and started standing up for himself, and what he believes in, he also really took a leap and acknowledged his ability in the medical field which was great to see. I also enjoyed the addition of Austin's character, and I'm hoping that we get to see a little more of him.

The story has also taken a deeper dive and things are starting to come to light that are gasp worthy. Some of the hints of things that were mentioned here are really showing that it's just the beginning for where this story is headed and that there is so much more than meets the eye. It's made for fantastic story telling and I am freaking hooked! Also, that ending, my god. My heart. It's not often that a book can elicit a strong emotional response from me, but that last paragraph, whoa. And that just lends truth to the fact that, there is so much more going on here than meets the eye and I plan to be there every step of the way while we uncover what that is.

Ault truly is a master of her craft. I applaud her for her ability to write flawed characters that have so much depth; character relationships that are believable and real and so layered, that rip your heart out and have you hoping for the best for all; and her ability to weave such an amazing story that really keeps you glued to the page. I could not put this one down, and the same ended up being true for volume one as well. The slow realisation of what is really going on and the theories that keep running through my head will have me thinking about this for a while to come. I'm looking forward to Volume three, and it can't come soon enough!

Naomi Ault has created a complex and complete world in her Chew series and I am all in. I was bummed out when I read the last page and I will be eagerly awaiting the continuation in the next book. Written so seemlessly book #2 moves along at a good pace and the characters are developing nicely. The addition of new characters keeps the story fresh and exciting. Wonderful wonderful story telling.
I received a complementary copy of this book and this is my honest and unbiased opinion of the tale.

What a sequel! As good as the first book. One of the best dystopia I've read and it's just getting even better and what an ending! Ouf!

Unfortunately, I don't have access to Vella in my country so I have to wait until Season 3 comes out in book format.

This is apparently published originally as a bi-weekly serial online, so this is a collection of those for a span. That explains why it doesn't seem to be a book in and of itself. It's fine, but that would have been one of my complaints.
It's nothing super special but it kept my interest throughout. I would read book 3, or check out the online version.

Epub 3 (DRM-Free) on kobo: ISBN 9798985972627; 190 pages

Continuing from Season One. The narrative now alternates between Al, Will and Kid (as they make a new start in their 'cured' state as cheap labour) and Luke Wright (who they kidnapped/carjacked and is now going through basic training after being drafted despite his conscientious objection filing). It seems that there are greater problems associated with the prion infection/cure tan has been made public...

A gruesome look at pandemics and pharmaceutical companies - not to mention nefarious political machinations... The season ends just as readers (and our main characters) are starting to see through to the deeper problems.

A subtly different 'zombie' plot with shades of the last three years of Covid...

Mind Blown. I wasn't sure how the first book could be topped...I was proven wrong. The storyline continues freely and smoothly. There are many shocks and twists in this book that I didn't see coming but made total sense!! Of course it was gory and full of shock, horror and grime...but that's what I love about this series!!

This is an incredible original series, so be sure to read the first book, before jumping into this one...background info is everything and you get most of it in the first book!! I can't wait until Season Three comes out!! This definitely should be a Netflix's series!!

I received a copy of this book via BookSirens and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Season two doesn't disappoint! The characters continue to develop, with you finding more of the backstories of their lives before they became infected. There are two storylines, one on the Eastcoast and one on the Westcoast. The constant flipping gets a little annoying, but if that's the only complaint, it's minor. The pace is quick, and the book is over way too fast! I can't wait for the next installment in this series - you won't see the twist coming!

Just brilliant!

A zombie type apocalypse with a massive twist! Action, gore, characters to love, and a few to not !
This book follows on from the first with Ali, Will and Kid. Luke is still in it And introduces Angel a rather beefy chap (!) and a government not to trust! Plus some more characters you can’t help finding intriguing.

If you are a fan of the zom poc and love one with a totally original twist you won’t be disappointed with Naomi Ault’s Chew (1 and 2!)

Allison, Luke, Will, and kids' story continues. This is an absolutely thrilling sequel. Follow along as they all struggle to find themselves after the apocalypse.  Can they survive after being infected? Can life be normal again? I loved this book... hopefully a book 3 soon 🙏 ☺️

I love this story. I read season 2 today, unfortunately I read faster than the author is able to write. Love the cliffhangers this season ends with.

And again i have dived inside the universe of chew and you know what, this is one of my favourite universes where zombies, (in here called biters), recover from the sickness that make them eat living people, other biters or in the last instance themselves, in this book we follow 3 different points of view, Alison, she recovered from wormwood prion, peter (cross that, his name is Luke), a nurse that during the wormwood prion crisis he keep his hospital going and took care of the earlier infected, but now he is forcefully enrolled in the army, he also has feeling by Alison and wants to hear from her again, and the third one a Sargent that truly dislike biters, because almost all his family died at the hands or should I say at the bites of one…

Alison is accompanied by kid a small child that was also an infected and doesn’t speak but knows far more than what she lets on at the first sight, and its still not in this volume that we get to know what is under the waterline and Will, and last time he was my least favourite character, but this time he didn’t rub me in the wrong way, but I guess that was because how Alison saw things around them, she had to look out for him and at the same time he showed her that he really did care, just read on, you’ll understand what I mean and you’ll probably agree with me…

Peter (Luke) in the other hand was sent to the army for a mandatory enrolment, and his fame as a nurse that helped biters, comes a long way, and because of that, some people really hate him, yeah when you start reading this book you wont be able to stop, new threats, new allies, mysterious messages, yeah in this book you get all of this and more.

I highly recommend chew for everyone that likes a good zombie story, where the main focus is how people react to the cure, being them the infected or the ones that didn’t get the disease, the way the author tells the story will make you come back for more and wait impatiently for the next book, that's the story of my life hahah, this book really delivers and it is a strong second volume into the universe of chew.

I got a free ARC from the author through Book Sirens and this is my honest opinion.

Edit: I am really sorry, I don't know why, in my mind Luke is Peter. Ever since the first episode, now I will go there (*to my review to correct the name).
