Essential Riding was a very general, yet very helpful, book as a beginner rider. Though it mainly covered things from an English Riding perspective, I was still able to learn a lot about proper posture and whatnot for basic riding like the walk, trot/jog, and turns and halts. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is just starting to ride horses, and combine it with other books and resources to be fully prepared.
