TIFFANY MANCHESTER writes Contemporary Fiction with "emotional intensity and heart-pounding adventure." There’s nothing she likes better than writing (and reading) stories that are both heartrending and humorous, with a touch of cute romance and a poignant streak of truth running through them.
When she’s not writing or dreaming up new stories and poems, you can find Tiffany flailing about on her surfboard (while reminiscing about her former life as a professional kayaker - when she was ‘really good at something’), traveling on new adventures with her partner, or binge-watching high school romcoms in her tropical Hawaiian home and otherwise doing her best not to leave the house.

So I found this one a little strange to get into at first but soon dismissed any doubts as i ended up not being able to put it down. I think it read as more of a non fiction to begin with but as it went on and it gathered momentum I invested all my time into it and grew to love the story itself! I love how spiritual it is and have taken so many hints away from the book to help in my day to day life that I could probably say this is great for someone who is looking to enlighten themselves whilst still enjoying a wonderful story. I found myself drawn to the cast of characters and especially Zoe on her discovery journey and loved seeing her character develop as the pages went on. Overall a 4 star read for me and I have taken away so many lovely thoughts and feelings from this. A real must read is you are looking for something spiritual and uplifting.
Thanks so much to the author for the gifted ebook.
Thank you @tiffmanchester @lovebookstours for letting me be part of this tour and reviewing this book. Surfacing is amazing read and is very spirtual and made me what to get back into my spirtual side again. The story is well written and kept me engaged . I read it in two days . I never read a book about surfing so was glad i had the opportunity to read it. The story about Zoe who is a professional surfer but things are not going well in surfing and her relationship and she decides she needs a change and start to be intuned with her body and mind . The story is moving and beauifuly written snd really made me think sbout my life. my faviorte characters where Zoe and ger best friend Sophie who was always tbere for her and understood the changes she was going through. 5 stars a great read.
Damn what a good book. Maybe it is because I'm in love with surfing. Maybe it is because I recognize myself in Zoe. But from the moment I started reading, I couldn't stop. Really loving it!!
This book is hard to describe, but I enjoyed it. It reads like part fiction, part spiritual guide, and part self-help book. The story is told in first person, which isn't my favorite, but as I got into the story, my irritation went away. Zoe is a professional surfer on the World Surf League. Two years ago she was a champion, but for the last two years she's been flailing. Now at the end of the tour, she realizes she needs to make a change, which includes breaking up with her long-term boyfriend. In a funk, she returns to Australia to stay with her best friend's family. Zoe has lost her confidence and wonders if her career is over. She decides she needs to do some deep soul searching to figure out what is wrong and make some important decisions about her career and life.
I really liked Zoe's ability to face what she felt was wrong in her life and make difficult choices. She took an honest look at her relationship and realized it wasn't working for her. Instead of just going along and dragging things out, she faced the issue, had a frank talk with her boyfriend, and they end things amicably. Did it hurt? Of course. But at least she cut out what wasn't working in her life so she could focus on healing and figuring out what could work. She did the same thing with other aspects of her life, and as she took back more and more control of her life, she felt the funk slowly lifting.
Zoe found the strength to make these changes through visits with an angel who provided guidance to find herself. This spiritual/self-help part of the book initially made me a bit uncomfortable, but as I kept reading, I found myself highlighting some of the gentle guidance being provided. A lot of the advice was something that we already know, like "believe there's more to life than meets the eye", "I give myself permission to fully enjoy the simple things in life", " you must release the need to control the future by staying present in the moment" and "let compassion lead the way", but sometimes we need to be reminded of them.
There was a lot of talk about surfing - almost like a beginner's instruction manual - that completely went over my head. I've never surfed and know nothing about it. While initially this information was informative and fun to read, as Zoe described more complicated aspects of surfing, my eyes started to glaze over and I found myself skimming those portions of the book. But that's just me. It was very well done and think that people interested in surfing will really enjoy it.
The book is a quick and easy read and I felt like I had been wrapped in a big, warm hug as I finished it. This was a very different kind of read for me, and I liked it. I think it's important to get out of your comfort zone, which includes reading books you wouldn't normally pick up on your own.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Love Book Tours and the author. All opinions are my own.
This novel follows pro surfer Zoe Smith who is, as she puts it, 'in a funk' after crashing out of the surfacing championships. It is clear Zoe needs to make some changes in her life and, in order to clear her head, she goes to stay with her friend Sophie 'S' Smart and her wonderful family in an idyllic beachfront villa. There is quite a lot of nautical imagery and sea metaphors and soon we are swept up in her mission to heal her mind in order to get back to full surfing form. The sea is personified, it moves and breathes for Zoe like a living organism and there is a strong evocation of place. The reader can almost feel the golden sands through their bare feet and taste the salty water on their lips. The first change Zoe makes is to break things off with her boyfriend and coach Derek, knowing deep down he is stifling her and her dreams. From there begins a process for Zoe to get back to basics, to rediscover her love of the waves and generally turn her life around, with the help from a guardian angel Teo who provides her with nuggets of wisdom. This journey is one of self discovery; Zoe has to resurface, not just literally in her surfing career but metaphorically in her life, making this an aptly named book. She has spent her time in a nomadic lifestyle, always on the go to chase the next wave, so this act of stopping and staying with the adorable Smart family is a revelation in itself. Zoe has to work on herself, her emotions and negative attitude towards herself and this book contains many life lessons I won't forget in a hurry. Throughout the book, can Zoe's confidence and ability grow as she learns to look at the world differently, or will her seemingly brave moves become a huge mistake? I loved this book, it's perfect for anyone stuck in a rut, anyone who feels their life has become stagnant or controlled by others and they need to find themselves again. I'm definitely taking some life goals from this book, it is a journey of self discovery and I couldn't put it any better than Manchester when she says 'people need to get out of their heads and into their hearts.'
Thanks to Hidden Hollow Book Tours & the author for a gifted digital copy of this book. I loved following Zoe as she tries to pick herself up after both a personal and professional loss, learning how to trust herself again to grow as a surfer and to stay present in gratitude.
While I’m not usually a self-help person, I think that taking a fictional approach to this genre is something that really resonated with me and encouraged me to take a closer look at my life, how to embrace feelings of faith, and “follow the feelgood.” I loved the almost diary-style of the book and the author broke the fourth wall quite a bit in a way that really added to the story.
My favourite part was learning more about surfing. I’ve always been interested in this sport and it was so cool to get inside the head of a professional athlete as she connects with the ocean and details all the ins and outs of surfing.
I also appreciated her connections with her best friend, her found family and those incidental connections you make in life, it really showed how even those seemingly incidental moments are important.
I’m glad I have a digital copy of this book as I’d like to revisit some of the lessons I learned along the way. Overall, I’d recommend this to: - People interested in the world of surfing and love the ocean - Self-help and self-discovery fans - Those who can suspend your disbelief and embrace some more esoteric elements
The book started with our main character Zoe, who's a professional surfer. Zoe explaining us about her childhood and also how she got herself into surfing. I loved Derek in the beginning as she explains how their relationship blooms. Characters are well written, especially Zoe's friendship with Sophie. It captures Zoe's surfing life – it surely reminded me of watching a summer vibe movies. It's about how far one is willing to push the limits in pursuit of rising above . It covers the spiritual and professional growth of Zoe. Author ends the book with a lovely poem and there's a epilogue link too. Overall a goodread, if you're feeling a bit down or need something to motivate yourself, you can pick this book for sure.
Thank you @lovebookstours for my #gifted copy! I'm excited to be a part of this tour.
Admittedly, I don't know the first thing about surfing yet. I was drawn to this book because I enjoy reading and learning about competitive sports. Told from an insider's perspective, I have a deep understanding and respect for professional surfers.
Zoe's story of introspection, growth, and resonated with me on a few levels. I found myself at a similar cross road many years ago when I made the decision to divorce. This book provides practical steps and advice on the difficult task of truly getting to know ourselves. The writing style flows nicely, keeping me engaged from start to finish.
This book speaks directly to you. I mean it is written in a way that you feel Zoe is talking to you. I enjoyed this style of writing. I also enjoyed all the lingo either surfing or Aussie and also how Zoe and her best friend communicated. It made you feel involved in the story.
What I loved about this book is while it is a fiction story, it is also a self help book in a way. Zoe feels lost in life and is not sure where to go. She finds a spirit leader that appears to her and helps point her in the right direction. Or I should say helps Zoe find her own direction. It is an engaging read and you can focus on the fiction story or try to implement some of the spirit leader ideas. I highly enjoyed this book!
I'm a little unsure how to review this one to be honest.
I feel that it's described as a fictional story - but for me it read more like a Non-Fiction or even a little like a spiritual/motivational self help book.
I'm sure that some of the story is autobiographical as there are some similarities and wonder whether it would have come across better for me, if it had been written in this way?
I enjoyed the book on the whole as it was uplifting and motivational. There were some very spiritual sections relating to beliefs - but also a lot of good tips on improving your health and mindset for a happier lifestyle.
I'm not 100% sure I loved Zoe, our main character but I feel that we didn't see enough of her personality or development other than the spiritual and professional side - but I did like the romantic side story - there could definitely have been more made of this.
Overall though, a nice uplifting book which would make a lovely light read.
There were a few things that really stood out for me with this read that didn’t revolve around my love of surfing. Being split into three parts of what Zoe was going through on a personal and professional level was amazing. The author shows you what an incredible surfer Zoe is but also allows you to see what’s going on in the inside of a character not what’s just being shown on the surface. The concept of Teo the guardian angel that took Zoe on an emotional journey to find her passion and love of life again was beautiful to read. Individually you learn a lot about faith, self talk and so many more messages. I found Teo to be inspirational and the way the character was bought into Zoe’s life was wonderful.
I personally loved Zoe as a character and and I enjoyed her relationship with her best pal Sophie. It’s really hard not to feel emotional when Zoe goes through her break up with Derek. I thought the knowledge about surfing was spot out I learned so much about the lifestyle and the competitions and more importantly about technique few pointers noted. Additionally you know the author has taste when she mentioned the twilight saga and the Rolling Stones too. I really loved this journey of finding yourself again and I found it to be incredibly inspiring. Anyone who has hit a road block in something they’re passionate about can learn so much from this book.
Thank you to @lovebooktours and @tiffmanchester for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Surfacing follows Zoe, a professional surfer who's lost her mojo and is feeling that her life is in turmoil, which is affecting her performance as a pro and her personal relationships, both with herself and others. After underperforming at the last competition of the season, she embarks on a journey of self-healing, understanding where and when she started to lose her confidence in herself and finding her loves, motivations, and goals that mean she's being true to herself and finding what she needs to be happy and fulfilled again.
This book is both a story and a self-help guide all rolled into one. The advice that's woven into the story is both helpful and enlightening. I myself can sometimes get very into my own head and I really emphasised with Zoe when she found her mind too busy to concentrate at times, I feel this a lot too so I really felt for her in the moment. I also loved the mantras included, focusing on what feels good and also listening to your gut.
I feel like I also learned a lot from really this book. I have never surfed in my life and the way things were broken down and explained made me feel that I could follow what was happening in the surfing moments also. Plus, the Aussie language was fun to read - I've never heard of the term "grom" before I liked how the easy-going Oz style speech and banter really flowed through the book.
I enjoyed following Zoe as she grew both emotionally and spiritually, I loved her laidback personality and her friends and adopted family really helped the story to shine.
Last thing and this is just my pure geekiness at heart here - What a lovely feeling book to read! The paper quality and pages of the book, it just felt really nice to hold whilst reading, solid yet silky. Kudos to the publisher for the lovely print here. I know, I know I'll stop. Just 😍 though. Fellow bookies will know what I mean!
Overall I'm giving this a solid 4.5 stars, really nice read and geuniely not what I was expecting from the book at all, it felt non fiction at times but not enough to take away from the story and following Zoe's Journey.
Review: Written in the first person, The summer of wonder allows Zoe to find herself and rediscover her flow within herself and within her life as a pro surfer. Unlike most books written in the first pov, Zoe tells us her story while breaking the fourth wall, allowing us to engage with her and her journey on a personal level.
Watching Zoe reconnect with her friends and second family, showed that love from the right people and space and time from any situation are the best healers to all problems. Discovering yourself and reconnecting to yourself allows you to describe what you need todo to help you find balance, allowing you to center yourself. Teo taught Zoe these lessons in such a simplified way without being condescending, and allowing her to figure out her needs by herself while also guiding this process.
Full of life lessons, surf lessons and tai chi the summer of wonder is an easy read perfect to get you ready for the summer. It really reiterated my need to go to Australia and explore the culture.
For lovers of: - Surfing - Bestfriends Brother - First Person POV - Finding Yourself - Spirituality
This book takes readers on a journey through the ebbs and flows of life, love, and self-discovery against the backdrop of the sun-kissed Australian coastline. Zoe Smith, a talented competitive surfer at a crossroads in her career and personal life, becomes the focal point of this engaging tale of resilience and growth.
At 23, Zoe finds herself in a rut after a disappointing performance and the heart-wrenching discovery of her coach and boyfriend's betrayal. Faced with uncertainty, she retreats to her homeland, Australia, seeking solace and a chance to reevaluate her priorities. What unfolds is a poignant narrative of Zoe's quest for inner peace and direction.
Throughout the story, the theme of connection — with oneself, loved ones, and the natural world — is artfully woven into the fabric of Zoe's narrative arc. Moreover, the evocative setting of the Australian coast serves as more than just a backdrop; it becomes almost a character in its own right, infusing the story with a sense of place and atmosphere.
In conclusion, the book is a wave of inspiration that sweeps readers along on a transformative journey of love, loss, and self-discovery. Although it was a bit slow at the beginning, I think you'd enjoy it if you get into the story.
This was a pretty quick and easy read that had some things I think that occasionally need to be heard.
It felt a little like a self help book to start but once I got more attached to the characters it just started to feel more like a slice of life than a self help book. This was a cute book overall cuz it showed the struggle of coming to terms with acknowledging that sometimes in life changes gotta be made so you're living more peacefully and not as tense and stressed as Zoe was at the start. Zoe definitely did go on a journey and it was nice to see how she did improve herself but did show that there are struggles that come with making changes so soon and that she's human and still has room to improve. Teo honestly was in this less than I thought he would be and seemed to be less integral than everyone else but he was needed to at least push Zoe to start her journey and clear up small bits of confusion. S and Seth were my favorite and I did not expect the relationship that developed with Seth but there was definitely a connection so it was bound to happen.
This is a book I think is nice to read when debating things in life just because it gives a new way of thinking some things.
Zoe our FMC has lost her love for surfing and her cheating boyfriend. So she decides to pack it up and go back home.
Zoe was a great character and was relatable as a person that sometimes finds themself lost and tries to regain control. I did struggle a bit with the guardian angel aspect of the book. However it did work in this book and exactly what Zoe needed. There was also a bit of romance in this book but wasn’t the main focus of the story.
I did enjoy the sport part of this book as I did not know all that much about surfing. Very surprising as I grew up in Florida and around the beach my whole life.
Overall this book was a very fun read and learned a lot about the sport of surfing and one’s struggles in finding themself.
TROPES & COMPS 🌊Best friend’s brother budding romance, 🌊Goes on a trip after finding out (ex) boyfriend cheated, 🌊The wise elder (except it’s an angel)
I absolutely enjoyed reading this one and found it an easy fast-paced read.
I really liked the sports narrative of this book. I didn’t really know anything about the world of surfing, so it was really interesting to learn about the different moves in the water and other aspects of being a world class surfer.
I found Zoe to be an interesting character and I loved that she was able to recognise that she had lost some of the control in her life and wanted to get it back. It was nice to see her use support where she needed but also know that she can help herself.
I struggled a little with the existential element of this book. It felt a little farfetched to me. However I was happy that this was what Zoe needed and I hope that it is something that has helped others in their lives.
Overall, this was a very fun read and I felt like I learned a lot. I would really love to read some more of Tiffany’s work!
You don’t have to be a surfer to find meaning from this book, and I enjoyed learning more about surfing and the sport. I had so many quotes tabbed as this is a very inspirational read.
Much of what Zoe’s guardian angel helps her learn and discover are skills I try to teach my clients as a therapist, such as staying in the present moment and reframing thoughts to be more positive. Zoe’s story is divided into three sections in the book: face the funk, find a new flow, and follow the feel good.
If you are looking for an inspirational summer read that follows a young woman her journey of self-discovery, that might also teach you some things along the way, then this is the book for you!
Thank you to the author, Tiffany Manchester, and Hidden Hollow Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book. My review is voluntary, and all opinions expressed are my own.
This book was amazing. It’s different than what I’ve previously read but ended up being exactly what I needed! It took me a few chapters to get into the book but man I couldn’t put it down!
I think so many of us would be able to see ourselves in Zoe and I think that’s what I enjoyed about it so much! It was easy to put myself in her shoes (despite me not knowing how to surf 😭 which I’m determined to learn) I’ve been in a place where my dreams changed and I had to reevaluate what I do with my life, and so this resonated with me!
It’s hard to put into words my thoughts on this book without spoiling it, but it’s an amazing read. Something I’m beyond excited I was able to read and a book that will stick with me for years to come.
Thank you to @hiddenhollowbooktours & @tiffmanchester for having me as part of this review tour!
My heart was so sad for Zoe. She is trying to navigate life after a breakup and feeling lost. I can remember being in my early 20's feeling lost at one point and this book made me really empathize with those emotions. Zoe has a bestie Sofie and I loved their relationship. Something very different from any book I've read recently was Zoe's guardian angel, Tio. This book had a beautiful way of exploring faith as part of the journey. I really liked that a lot. The surfing aspect was so cool and especially the story being based in Australia. This book reminded me of a young and more complicated Eat, Pray, Love. I would definitely say this a great beach read!
Tropes: • Best friend’s brother budding romance, • Goes on a trip after finding out (ex) boyfriend cheated, • The wise elder (except it’s an angel)
This book wins you over because while you read it it's as if you were talking directly to Zoe. This writing style is a type of writing that always wins me over. Even though it's not typical of my speaking I loved the Strict surfing or Australian jargon made me want to be there even when Zoe was with her friend. You are absolutely involved in the story. It's not a simple novel but we could define it as a self-help book and in a certain sense it's the first time I've read one and it really struck me and I found myself in Zoe who feels lost in life and doesn't know where to go. And how many of us find ourselves in this situation??. It is a reading that will win you over for the many ideas it also gives you on how to live.... For me absolutely 5 ★
Ok, so I’ve never surfed. But I adore time spent in the ocean/water and I do admire surfers’ bravery, strength and passion. 🏄🏻♀️
This book was a nice glimpse into the reality of that lifestyle as well as a spiritual journey (adventure?) that made it feel like a personal memoir or something of the sort.
The characters weren’t very deep IMHO but at the same time I feel like the reader gets a front row seat to so many little emotional pieces that add up to a refreshing story about hope, starting over and taking charge of one’s life!
Agree with the reviews that compare this to Eat, Pray, Love. 💗
At 23 years old, Zoe is stuck. Nothing in her life is moving forward, so she relies on her past to understand why she is where she is. Doing so, Zoe goes down a spiritual route and shares her discoveries with the readers. Addressing the readers makes for an intimate read and Zoe provides her thoughts and emotions, such as the causes of her rocky relationship and her deep appreciation for the sea. This is ultimately a thought-provoking New Adult fiction as a young adult uncovers the benefits of self-discovery, thanks to Teo.
I received a free copy and am leaving a review voluntarily. Thank you to Hidden Gems Books and author.
Huge thank you to @HiddenHollowBookTours & @tiffmanchester for my gifted copy! Absolutely loved the cover and the book.
✨Not going to lie, it took me a bit to get into the book but once I did I couldnt not put it down. Zoe is on the road of self discovery, after a much needed change. She breaks up with her boyfriend after realizing that it was working out and she wants to find the love of surfing again. With some time and patience, she finds what she wants from life and could be content with the life that she is living. While reading, I found that I saw myself a lot in Zoe and was able to self reflect on my life as well. Must read book!
It took me a while to get into this book but one I did, I really enjoyed it. The writing style was interesting but I had to keep reminding myself that this was fiction and not a work of non-fiction or a memoir, although that didn't take any enjoyment out of it. My favourite thing about this book is that it felt personal, like I was sat with Zoe and she was talking to me one on one about her life, struggles, successes and journeys. I really liked it and will look forward to reading more by the author
This book is a bit different from what i normally read. While it is written as a fiction book, it definitely read and felt like a work of nonfiction. The messages this book protrays are really well written - with Zoe focusing on learning to trust herself when making personal and professional decisions that are ultimately right for her. It is about learning to say no, living, and being in the moment. Life is not about trying to always please everyone else. I feel like these lessons Zoe learnt are so relevant to the lives we live, and it is something to focus on.
Pro surfer Zoe goes through quite a bit of changes during the course of this book. Each decision is necessary though if she wants to get her life back on track. She's lost her focus and her love of surfing.
Through multiple conversations with her spiritual guru / guardian angel, Zoe is taught a variety of valuable lessons, which I really enjoyed. They're definitely things that any person could incorporate into their own life, especially the reminder to "follow the feel good"...aka do the things that make you happy and give you purpose.
There's a little bit of romance in the story, but I appreciated that it wasn't the main focus of the book.
The friendships and relationships that Zoe has were with incredibly supportive people who encouraged her to seek more, to make changes, and to follow her dreams--whatever they looked like.
This was a quick read coming in at under 300 pages, with short chapters that helped with pacing. It was also fun to learn about surfing, as most of my knowledge about the sport comes from the hit Disney original movie, "Johnny Tsunami".
The one thing I struggled with was
I was provided a copy of the book as part of a book tour. All feelings and opinions are my own
New adult fiction with a powerful and reflective journey of self-discovery. I really enjoyed this one and it is a quick read perfect for summer! The main character, Zoe, is determined to get out of a funk and receives sage advice from her guardian angel to change her perspective on life. This leads to a feel good storyline about the importance of enjoying life and rekindling valuable connections with friends. There’s also a budding best friend’s brother budding romance! Definitely check this one out!
Comparable to Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
I enjoyed reading this book. It is a story that will inspire and value friendship. I found this book to be well written and hard to put down. I enjoyed how the author pulled me into the story from the start. The characters are connectable and truly made the story easy to read. I enjoyed watching their growth throughout the story. This is a fast paced, engaging story that you don't want to miss. I highly recommend this book.
This is a story of self discovery following a heartbreaking relationship. I thought it was going to be a lot of relationship drama but instead it was a really nice story. You follow along the MC’s journey to find herself again by working on different areas of her life. The characters seemed a bit too perfect but I see that it was done to show the MC’s growth with the help of those closest to her. Loved the ending too.
