In their quest for cellulite reduction and a sexy self-image, Ellie Simpson, a Dublin nanny, and her three best friends—Maggie, a secretary; Pam, a divorced mother of two; and Toni, a nurse—have tried them all: Atkins, Weight Watchers, South Beach, Cabbage Soup . . . even the Avocado and Rice Krispies Gut-Cleansing Regime! But losing a paltry five pounds seems as difficult for them as finding lasting love, so they decide to form the WWW (Women Watching Weight) Club. Once a week they meet to talk sex, spider veins, and the grim digestive realities of the latest diet craze, while freely indulging in wine, beer, and calorie-packed takeout without the slightest trace of guilt (vowing after their weekly weigh-in to start their diets again tomorrow). But when the women of the WWW Club agree that the first member to lose seven pounds will win a date set up by the other three, Ellie finds herself facing a dilemma—torn between her loyalty to her best friends and her own deepening feelings for one man who just might be everything she's ever wanted.
This was the first real chicklit book I have read. I can understand why the genre is popular. This book is an easy read, a fun story and the outcome is quite predictable, so there isn't much tension. For some women, they might recognize themselves in any of the characters, but that is not the case for me. Though I could not identify with the characters, I could find myself in their struggle against weight. Dieting is something appalling to me, and I can fully understand why it is so difficult if, like the four friends Pam, Toni, Maggie and Ellie, you try to change your habits rigorously. The story has been quite entertaining, yet there weren't many suprises. What I disliked was the quite outspoken language about sex, the story didn't need that. All in all a good book to read when you don't want to spend much time thinking about plots or hidden meanings.

Typical normal women trying to stay slim and lovely
The WWW women's dieting club was funny as all four friends tried to make the effort to improve their lives with trial and error and many bottles of wine
Has aged and really shows and particularly the fat phobia would not fly now.
I was not interested in any of the characters of which there were many, and for a group of women that were meant to be close knit they didn't have particularly solid relationships with each other.
Main plot involves random adoption of an orphaned child and an unlikely marriage between Ellie and Jack who apparently loved her yet had a fling with her mate. Other characters and their lives seem like an after thought.

When I finished the book, I felt like there was a lot that had not been resolved or was very quickly and conveniently wrapped up. The story was kind of long, especially for how it ended. Emphasis was placed on the friendship of these women, yet they weren't treated equally when it came to getting space in the book.
A "nice" book. This book was entertaining enough not to be boring. Yet, is was tame enough to never keepme up turning pages. If I couldn't have finished it, I would have been fine. Sometimes I want a book like this so I have something to occupy my time, but it's not intense, so I can read it whenever without it interfering with my life.
I love Ireland and usually like the way Irish writers write, but this was perhaps too Irish for an American reader. I didn't understand lots of the references to Irish products or idioms. Overall, I did enjoy the story
Vermakelijk boek.
