Miriam Gray resides in Finnegan, Kansas, but when she is jilted by her fiancé in favor of her best friend, it’s the last place she wants to remain. A chance meeting with an acquaintance, leads to her impulsively becoming a mail order bride.
Jack Walker lives on a ranch in Rowland Falls, Texas and he’s in desperate need of a mail order bride. When he breaks his leg, he finds himself laid up in bed, unable to travel. Miriam refuses to travel to his ranch without an escort and doesn’t have anyone who can spare the time to accompany her. Jack’s twin brother steps in to solve the dilemma, a proxy marriage takes place and he escorts his brother’s bride back to their ranch. Will Jack and Miriam forge a connection, or will a foolish decision tear them apart?
I was born in Manly on the Northern Beaches in Sydney, Australia and grew up in the west after we moved there to help my brother’s eczema which was made worse by salt air. I now reside in the beautiful sunny state of Queensland.
My dad had the biggest impact on my life. I have always had an overactive imagination and would often tell him stories which floated in my mind. He encouraged me to put pen to paper convinced that one day they would become published books.
Apart from marrying the love of my life, the highlight of my life was being accepted into Nursing just before my 16th birthday. It had been a long-time dream and one which encompassed 37 years of my life. Along with nursing, being married to a Naval Officer for almost 47 years, and posted in numerous places, gave me experiences which I have written into many of my books.
We enjoy traveling the country with our Caravan/RV, and Jack Russell puppy by the name of Gemma who will be joining us.
As my parents were British, never Australian citizens, I hold dual citizenship and we plan to take advantage of this to spend two years traveling the UK and Europe in the near future. It will also give me the opportunity to catch up with many family members who reside in England.
My books are in various genres - Western Historical Romance-both steamy and sweet, Contemporary Romance-steamy and sweet, Male/Male, Australian Outback and City Romance. I also have one menage and one paranormal romance along with two children's books. As I said earlier, I have a rather overactive imagination.
I hope you will pick up one of my books and when you close the cover on one of my stories it will be with a satisfied sigh.
Miriam cannot stay and face the whispers, the judgement, the pity but she still struggles with accepting the escape offered until she is also needed to. That allows her to accept in her heart that this is her path, this is what God wants for her. We then see a completely different Miriam, she is happier and more confident, she is very sweet with a huge heart. Jack's pride has tripped him up more than once but this time it may just cost him his heart, I like Jack and although he is a little lost and drowning, he still stands by his morals. He is a good man who falls head over heels for his bride! I really like them as a couple. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
4 1/2 stars I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet romance. The whole idea of a proxy husband is incredible but it worked so well.
Jack and David Walker, twin brothers, found themselves in a situation where they were working from sun up to sun down to try to keep the ranch going. Since their mother passed away the housework and cooking disintegrated to a dire level. A mail-order bride seemed the only alternative and Jack was the ‘sacrificial’ husband-to-be to one Miriam Gray to be exact.
David and Jack are hardworking, moral men. They are both disasters in the house 😆 however having never been expected to help means they’d never learnt. I loved the tenacity in which they were determined to make edible breakfast biscuits and smooth gravy. This is an indicator to their character and determination but in a positive way.
Miriam is another wonderful character with the same hardworking ethic and moral standing. Coming from money, she could have been a spoilt brat, she was the opposite. Emma is a character I’d love to know more about...hint, hint! 😉
Great descriptions and expressions make for an interesting read but also help to paint a clear picture of each scene. This is one reason why I gave it an extra half a star, another is that the story is so engaging.
Miriam's best friend and financee have eloped! Now she's dealing with the hurt and gossip of that on top of mourning for her recently shipwrecked family. She feels like she wants to get a fresh start somewhere else, even though her seamstress shop is doing well. Jack and his twin need help. They are strapped for cash as they pay off the ranch and the gambling debts their Father racked up before emptying the bank account and abandoning them. Now, their Mother has passed away and the house is a disaster. They barely have time to cook for themselves and when they do, it turns out terrible. They need a housekeeper but can't afford one. Jack agrees to find a mail order bride who can help them out. Miriam agrees to Jack's proposal. But what happens when he's injured and can't travel to marry her? Will they be able to work together and make a go of the ranch? Will they fall in love? Or will Jack be jealous of his twin? This is a clean, sweet romance. I really liked it! It was cute and interesting.
Now and then I love a well written, sweet romance. Jack and Miriam made a great couple and they were surrounded by other wonderful characters. In a time without online match ups, speed dating or reality shows, people took chances marrying someone they'd never met. You'll be cheering for this couple to make it work. Great story, I've not read others in the series yet but I'm sure I will.
Jack and Miriam had a tough start, He got hurt, broke his leg falling off the barn roof. His brother David, married Miriam, Proxy for Jack, they hit it off great and fell in love, money got in the way and caused problems. They got married and lived happy ever after. Thank you Susan Horsnell.
This is a well written book and a very well written storyline. The characters were well thought out too. You will discover excitement, adventure and a little humor. You will enjoy this short tale.
Jack and Miriam each faced their own challenges and independently reached the same conclusion that marriage was the answer. Proxy marriage brought the two together, love makes the marriage!
A beautiful love story. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good well written clean Romans book. The author captured my attention on the first page and kept my attention to the last page
This was a fun book to read. The characters were pleasant and the story moved right along no boring parts. Miriam and Jack had a proxy marriage that seemed blessed by God. - Babs
