DC Holly Towns #6

Goodbye Sky Field

Rate this book
Fire in the sky, a catastrophic explosion nearby, and a massive investigation follow a devastating plane crash at Port Alma’s Sky Field airport.

Detective Constable Holly Towns is working on the fringes of the high-profile case, trying to find out who turned an old gravel pit into a meth lab, but she keeps getting drawn closer to the crash site and its secrets. Meanwhile, people connected with the lab are being murdered and the CIU officers are worried that a shakeup in the local drug trade will lead to more violence.

And there’s one more problem. Holly is being accused of using excessive force at an out-of-control student rally, and is on restricted duties. She’s the target of a vindictive social media campaign, and faces the threat of job sanctions as well as a lawsuit launched by a parent, one of Port Alma’s high-powered tech titans.

Holly’s success - or failure - will be very public and her future with the Port Alma PD is on the line.

I love writing every day and the result so far is three mystery series, and counting. I’ve been retired from teaching for a couple of years, and am totally immersed in my new career as a mystery writer. I hope you enjoy the results!
The Murder In Season trilogy features injured detective constable Claire Beckett.
The longer Poodle Versus… series is a reader favorite. It features small-town action, zany characters, and a Nasty Small Poodle who will capture your heart.
This year I plan to release several books following DC Holly Towns, starting with Goodbye Port Alma.
The Free Prequels to all my series are available on my website, AnneShillolo.com.
You can find me on Facebook as Anne Shillolo Writer.
Happy reading!

Goodbye Sky Field, #6 - Well written with intense story lines had me immersed in the pages, taking my time to read this book. Holly did well with all the cases from one day's events and the personal attack that puts her behind the desk. The ending was a cheerful balance to the heavy topics unfolding through out the story. Probably the best book so far. 5*

Goodbye Port Alma - Surprised and excited to find this author. Finally after all the trash I have to wade through to find an author that cannot only write an interesting story with good characters and good story lines, but also does not use profanity, knows proper grammar and punctuation and does not feel the need to add current politics. Refreshing. Fast-paced. Ready for the next book. 5*

Goodbye Lake Street - One big mistake made: Why wasn't 911 called either while she was chasing her or after the other incident was under control? Fifteen minutes is too long to remember the chased. Otherwise, a good relaxation. I missed the three previous books but it did not affect the story, stand alone. Good, clean read with good characters and good story lines. Easy to read and fast-paced till the last page. 4*

Goodbye Foxbridge Lane, prequel - Interesting, short introduction to the Goodbye series. Good characters and good story lines. 4*

What an intense story. Holly is not only working two cases but also dealing with a social media campaign against her and Danny’s attitude with her and his health issue. Will Holly survive all and solve the cases and save her career? Will Danny’s health crises and their relationship be resolved? Join Holly as she puts the pieces together to solve these cases. The many twists and turns of this book keeps you reading to see what happens next. There is more to tell but don’t want to give any spoilers. This is a must read!

Holly has evolved into an exceptional detective who can methodically think through a crime, analyze the evidence, and put theories together to solve the crimes. She has a special knack for thinking outside the box which Danny has mentioned to her. The characters are totally defined by their personalities, their decisions and the way they work through this story line. I am totally addicted to this series and can’t wait for the next story! I would give this more than five stars if I could!

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I was pleasantly happy to see another DC Holly Town book. This book has two incidents that the police have to solve. A riot at a high school has Holly on the front line to keep the rioters out of the roadway. An overly aggressive girl comes at Holly waving a broken bottle. In her defense Holly uses her baton on the girl's wrist to get her to drop the bottle. Now, not only the police department but Holly herself are being sued for abuse . While all this is going down a plane crashes at Sky Field. It's going to be hard identifying the crash victims because of the fire. Was the crash an accident or did someone cause the plane to crash?
Anne Shillolo's DC Holly Town books are detective work at it's best. The ins and outs, highs and lows, twist and turns of hunting down the clues to be able to solve the crimes are all highlighted in these books. If you enjoy reading who-dun-its, pick up a DC Holly Town book and start reading. But, be warned, these books are addictive, so you may want to pick up more than one.

I offered a honest review for an ARC copy of this book.

DC Holly Towns and the Port Alma Police have their hands full. An explosion at an abandoned gravel pit combined with an a deadly airplane crash at Sky Field keeps the department working overtime. As they try to determine what happened, people involved in the drug trade are being murdered. They know that these events are connected, but they don't know who is behind this deadly crime wave. I knew how hardworking and dedicated this group is. I just wasn't sure that they would be able to keep working at this pace especially when DC Holly Towns is being accused of using excessive force against a teenage protester. Holly is devastated by these charges. I was glad to see her fighting to prove her innocence. She's dedicated to her career and her home town. I hated to think that she would be forced to give it up because of lies and innuendo. Goodbye Sky Field is a very intense story. Anne Shillolo has outdone herself with this book. I'm a fan of this series. The characters are interesting and unique. The setting is perfect. I can't ask for more.

a bit over the top this time…

I have great enjoyed the DC Holly Towns series, and will continue to read it, but from the get-go this one was quite unbelievable to me. The foundational premise that this woman crashed a plane, killing however many strangers in the process just to obtain a new identity so she could “start a new life” is ridiculous. Of course a plane crash sets off a major investigation — I’ve read enough spy stories to know there are ways to successfully accomplish those goals without drawing so much attention to yourself. And the baby! The author had to twist herself into a pretzel to explain why a sociopath who could emotionlessly kill 40-50 people would be compelled to save and tenderly care for the infant of one of her intended victims. And let’s not even get into how Holly ends up (miraculously) getting all the evidence she needs to clear name. I’m sure the $1.5 million will feature in future episodes, lol. So, sail on, Holly, I’ll be following your future exploits!

GOODBYE SKY FIELD is Anne Shillolo's most ambitious installment to the Port Alma series yet. Page-turning suspense and non-stop action kept me reading into the night.

DC Holly Towns gets swept into a series of seemingly unrelated disasters but ferrets out the connections as the story advances. As always, Holly intuitively puts clues together as she works with her team (not always easy for her!) to unravel a tangled web of crimes involving drugs, a missing child and murder. While she's working feverishly to solve the crimes plaguing the town, Holly also faces a charge of police brutality leveled by a high school student intent on ruining her.

Will Holly beat the charges of excessive force, solve the murders and break up the drug ring? Grab a copy of GOODBYE SKY FIELD and find out!

A fast paced read that grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let you go to the end. DCI Holly Towns is thrown into a few cases including a meth lab, a plane crash, explosion and student riots. When she gets accused of police brutality in handling the student riots, she's put behind a desk and social media goes after her. She has to clear her name, get back on the streets and take care of her cases. Solve the mysteries of them all. Add to all that you have Danny and his problems heaped on her. Can she survive it all? Can she do it all? Holly is a great character, so well developed you just have to root for her to succeed! I can't wait to see what is in store for her next. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Each time I read one of these Port Alma books I enjoy it even more than the previous ones. Holly Towns is on the case once more. The book opens with an unfortunate encounter at a demonstration that threatens to derail Holly's career - again! But that pales into insignificance beside the drug-factory that explodes and the plane that crashes on the outskirts of town. Holly is soon deeply involved in both investigations, barely having time to worry about the way in which her relationship with Danny seems to have plummeted once more. This still has the feel of a cozy murder mystery, but only just. There's an edge to the writing which makes it even more gripping that the rest of the series. An excellent read. Highly recommended.e I read one of Anne

Wow! What an exciting and thrilling mystery following DC Holly Towns through this fast-paced crime novel that truly is addictive. I feel like I know Holly and was totally immersed in all the twists and turns from the beginning to the very last word and really didn't want the book to end. If you enjoy well crafted crime procedurals that will keep you on the edge of your seat and unable to put the book down, don't miss Goodbye Sky Field. I can't wait to see what happens next with Holly and the gang in Port Alma. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Fair warning: Do not start this book if you have other commitments! DC Holly Towns has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. Her insights are incredible. This is the first book I have read in this series and it was wonderful. It can be read as a stand alone but you will want to read the others, I know I do. All of the characters could walk off the page. Real life dialogue and reactions make Goodbye Sky Field move as fast as some television programs. You will become attached to Holly and all of her friends. A fast paced, suspenseful afternoon well spent reading Goodbye Sky Field.

Twists and Turns Plus Death and Drugs
If you have been reading this series, you will love this episode. If you are not familiar, you will still love it, but you will want to go back and read all of the previous books. Major calamities are happening all over town and our favorite DC is all over it! She knows that these crimes are interrelated, but can she prove it? And if so, will she live to see it all end? This is a fast, action-filled police whodunnit that I wanted to never end. Each book leaves me wanting more.

I love the interactions between the various characters. The regulars are a team that respect and support each other. They are such individuals whose personality quirks keep things moving. The story was interesting taking two major concerns in almost any country, street drugs and terrorist threats. There were plenty of details to keep you guessing and trying to piece the puzzle out. A very satisfying read.

I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.

This book was so impressive that I could not go to sleep until I had finished it.I have read the previous DC Holly Towns mysteries but the one was the best so far. A police brutality case against Holly, a meth lab explosion and a plane crash force Holly to her limit. The question is can she handle the pressure and how are all these things related. A very surprising ending.

This is unputdownable! This is one fantastic story that has a police unit doing their best to find the perpetrator of a disaster and the mastermind behind a vicious drug trade. The cohesiveness of the police unit made the story flow seamlessly and build suspense as well as anticipation of the conclusion. This is one seriously great read.

Once again Holly is in a spot of bother! School kids rioting & one goes to hit her in the face with a broken bottle, Holly breaks her wrist with her(Holly’s) baton. Whilst this is happening a plane roars overhead & crashes at the airfield. This is a very involved/convoluted book & I do not want to spoil it for anyone. A very good read indeed.

Holly is in trouble as someone has accused her of brutality. She doesn't have time for this as there is a plane crash and an explosion minutes apart. Danny is acting weird. Things are just crazy. The storyline grabs you from the first page. I love the writing, you feel like you are right in the middle of the story beside Holly. This was the best yet.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is an honest review. I absolutely loved this book! Detective Constable Holly Towns and the Criminal Investigations Unit are in the midst of explosions, plane crash, drug rings and murder. Ms. Shillolo writes in such a way that you can’t put the book down until it is over and then you wish it hadn’t ended yet.

Anne Shillolo produces yet another tight police procedural mystery with an excellent, credible, compelling plot and featuring extremely admirable DC Holly Towns. Normally I only read cozies, but Holly Towns is my kind of character: smart, strong, ethical.
You won't be able to put this one down.
