It's sad that this book seems to have been almost completely overlooked by fans and readers of great sci-fi. How many people know about the Orbit anthology series? How many people know the name Damon Knight? Six months ago, I didn't know either existed, and most people I've told about the series have never even heard of the editor or his works. Considering the quality of the work in this book, that is a travesty.

Another travesty-- when I looked this book up on Goodreads, it had no reviews, only a single rating of two stars. Two stars? This book is a masterpiece! It is brilliantly edited, expertly formatted and contains a number of early works by talented sci-fi authors, some of whom have gone on to carve names for themselves in the genre. Every story in Orbit 16 is golden and beautiful. Every story in this anthology is fresh, unique, well-told and interesting. Rarely does one find an anthology packed with so many short stories as good as these.

Most modern anthologies are like most modern albums-- they have one or two (or more) tracks jammed in that are essentially just trash or filler. Not so with this book. Not with Orbit 16. Damon Knight has done a marvelous job of selecting and polishing the pieces within and has presented the whole pack in a way that only a dedicated professional can. My only regret is that I didn't discover this book fifteen years ago when Damon Knight was still alive so I could tell him how awesome he is for putting out such a marvelous work. The man definitely deserves more praise than he ever received while he was with us and writing.
