For any and all health an evidence-based guide to the uses, benefits and practical application of a plant-based diet The book draws on the University of Winchester’s Plant-based nutrition course―the first university-based course in the UK on plant-based nutrition―taking both an holistic and a systems-based (heart, respiratory system, diabetes, kidneys, liver, gut) approach. The course is led by Shireen Kassam with contributions from most of the chapter authors, all of whom are internationally recognized for their work with plant-based nutrition. Each chapter is backed up by 50+ key references.
Drs Shireen and Zahra Kassam, along with registered dietitian Lisa Simon, have succeeded in producing a truly excellent resource in the field of plant-based nutrition. The clinical community has been crying out for this much-needed textbook, which not only details the "whys" of recommending a whole food plant-based (WFPB) diet for our patients but also - and very importantly - the "how". No stone has been left unturned, with chapter 1 giving a detailed overview of the impact of plant-based dietary patterns on health and disease and the final three chapters dedicated to examining the barriers to following a WFPB diet, actioning this in clinical practice and - finally - the imperative need for us to adopt this way of eating for planetary, as well as individual, health. The intervening chapters follow a system-based approach, with contributions for numerous well-respected experts in the field. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, and am so grateful to the editors and authors for bringing this to our bookshelves. I will return to this time and again in my daily work, and also for general interest's sake. Thank you.
I loved this book. So much great information I will be using in my clinic. I hope they continue to update this book as the science around plant based eating expands.
