"As a former Marine and a police officer for 15 years, being as fit as possible has always been the goal. Balancing all the different aspects of tactical fitness was incredibly difficult for me at first until I discovered the Tactical Barbell system in 2016. Tactical Barbell is simple, reliable, and highly effective - it gets the job done every time and helps me stay mission ready at all times." - D, (Municipal) Police Lieutenant
Green Protocol is a comprehensive strength & conditioning system for a specific type of military the combat arms soldier. The term ‘combat arms’ refers to troops that engage in direct ground the infantry, special operations, recce, like that. The combat arms soldier is the ultimate hybrid athlete. At the elite end of the spectrum, he needs the endurance of an ultra runner coupled with the strength and structural integrity of a cyborg. These qualities have to coexist to some degree for any combat arms role on the spectrum.
Green Protocol isn’t restricted to the military - it’s for anyone with a similar fitness tactical law enforcement, smoke jumpers, SAR, etc. If you have a need for advanced strength and endurance, you’re in the right place.
This book isn’t a collection of random workouts. Green Protocol is a structured approach with a methodical progression model applied to the key domains of combat fitness. Concurrent periodization is incorporated throughout. This is a modular system designed for every part of your journey. It’ll prepare you for entry level selection/schools, for the job itself, and for detours as your goals change and evolve. Training year-round like you’re preparing for selection is unsustainable and undesirable. Training like an established team member isn’t always focused enough for selection or schools. At Tactical Barbell our mantra is ‘results speak’. Our bestselling programs are relied upon by thousands of military, law enforcement professionals, and first responders around the world. Come see why.
K. Black is the pen name for a twenty year veteran of the military and law enforcement. K.Black's interest in functional fitness came about while serving in various physically demanding units, as an infantryman, paratrooper, operator, and subject matter expert on a federal hostage rescue team.
KB really has nailed this aspect of training. I’m early 50’s, and have been using Operator for about five years…this iteration of TB is the “next step” for me. I appreciate the OP suggestions for set/weight % here.
My thought: spot on for someone preparing for a selection process. I wish this had been out there 35 years ago…
The more I study on my own regarding the different attributes of fitness, the more I realize how much research KB puts into these books. I really wish I had these when I was 17 and first joining the military!

Good if you are into endurance and or military service. It has some good advice for those who might want to run some endurance training for just part of the year which is what I do in the summer months. The vast majority of people would be happy with just 1 and 2.
I'm a huge fan of the Tactical Barbell series... it's a great template of programs that fits the life of a busy dad... not just military/police specialties.
