Whiskey Mountain #1

Something to Talk About

Rate this book
I love love.

I believe that everyone is destined to find their one true love, their happily ever after. That’s why I run a relationship advice column to help those who need a little guidance. Granted, I’m by no means an expert, but it is my favorite subject, and I’ve spent plenty of years studying it as I’ve watched others fall in love.

I know my true love is out there, just waiting for me to find them. In the meantime, I’m enjoying my life, running a fun little coffee shop in Whiskey Mountain, and chasing around a panty-eating turtle— don’t ask.

But all of that comes to a screeching halt when a cup of tall, dark, and grumpy comes to town. All of the women are obsessed with the sexy new stranger, and I can’t deny I haven’t noticed how attractive he is. But when you add in his gruff exterior and the way he rejects my recommendations every time he orders his coffee black, I can’t seem to think straight when he’s around.

Owen is the complete opposite of me. I love love, he wants nothing to do with it. I’m young and carefree, he’s older and more rigid. I like flavored coffee, he likes the bitterness of it plain. We’re so different that it feels like we have absolutely nothing in common. But when he starts to drop his wall and let me in, that makes me question everything I thought I knew about him.

At the end of the day, he’s made it clear that love is not in the cards for him. I know that I should walk away and keep looking for someone who wants what I want, but there’s a chemistry between us that I’m curious to explore. Helping people find love has always been what I’ve done best, but this time, I might’ve finally met my match.

An enjoyable quick, spicy romance. However, "enjoyably quick" is the best endorsement I can give it.

Most of the writing is fine, but Baca's sex scenes were moving the needle on the cringyscope. The biggest problem, I think, is that the age gap is bumping up against my outer limits of what feels acceptable. Even though the love interests were (a respectable?) 22 and 34, the FMC acted more like a teenager and the MMC only slightly more mature. Again, most of the writing was fine, but the romance felt rushed and the chemistry was tepid at best.

My only recommendation is if you're looking for this specific shebang the book can be read in a couple of hours. I'm not, however, continuing with this author.

So after reading other reviews that have given this book a 4 and 5 stars it makes me wonder if we were reading the same book. Lol

The writing was terrible, none of it was realistic, nothing made sense and it was such a boring book I found myself constantly thinking of other things and wanting to rush through this book to get it over with. I almost DNF'D it several times and it took me WAYYYYY longer to read then it should have.

The constant underwear eating turtle was just weird and annoying, at first it was kinda cute but then when he just kept eating them, I swear this turtle went through 30 pairs during this book lol 😆 You would think she would learn to pick her clothes up or put the turtle elsewhere. Plus in all reality what turtle just runs around eating panties? 🤦‍♀️

The Foul mouth bird was annoying and again not realistic. He had quite the vocabulary and answered things at the perfect time as if he was in the conversation too, if anyone around here has actually owned a parrot you would know they don't fill in conversations, yet instead spout random words they know or only respond to words they know. We have owned a cockatoo since I was like 8. Lol she randomly screams out my name because she was so used to hearing my mom yell at me 😆😆😆

The "chemistry" was non existent, they literally didn't even know each other and they were just all of a sudden oh so in love and had all these complications. 🙄 She acted like a 16 year old and he seemed more like a 20 year old, when he was supposed to be in his 40s and her in her 20s....

The ending just flew threw like she wanted to fill the pages with a bunch of nonsense.

For those of you talking about the "scenes" being so great? where? What scenes? you mean the TWO scenes at the very end of the book that also sounded like it was written by a teenager?

The only thing I halfway liked about this book is it took place in a coffee shop and the main character likes chips, salsa and tacos lol! That is the only half relatable thing In this book. 🤦‍♀️

I give this book a 1 star and I'm very generous with my ratings, so for me to rate a 1 is a pretty big deal.

This entire book annoyed me lol.

I will NOT be picking up anymore of her books.

Another amazing book by Samantha Baca! This small town, instalove, age-gap, grumpy/sunshine romance was well-written and I loved the main characters! Maggie and Owen were literally perfect. They were so cute together! This was a quick, easy novella with spice, cuteness, laughs, passion, and intense chemistry! I’m really looking forward to the next books in the series!

Age gap small town romance. He has commitment issues and she’s looking for the right guy and open to give up her v-card. She has a blog and coffee shop and loves giving advise on sex and love. I think I loved that the most in the book. Highly recommend. This is book one in the Whiskey Mountain series.

Reads like a first draft. Who are these people? Why should we care? How does she afford her own business at the age of 22? Why are people calling a man in his mid 30s a silver fox when he has no grey hair? Why do we want a hero who refers to the vulva as a taco? Are we ignoring the red flag of the older man talking about how "mature" the younger woman is?

I fell in love with this book! Maggie lives in a small town, owns a coffee shop and writes an advise blog for relationships. She is wise for her 22 years and is honest with herself and others about what she wants. Owen is temporarily in town working on improving development and tourism. Owen has had to endure quite a bit and therefore has a brick wall for his own self preservation. He noticed Maggie right away but kept her at arm’s length until she finally got him to engage in a hilarious conversation.
This author has put out quite a few books and this one was so much fun to read!

Samantha Baca is a new author to me and I had the opportunity to listen to this book in Audio..and I am so glad that I did...because I really loved listening to this story.
I have been so impressed by Samantha's writing and narrator Jaime Carnucci's narration....Jaime portrayed ALL the characters in this story and she did an excellent job at expressing her voice and changing it to fit different characters...I enjoyed listening to her voice.
Something To Talk About is an age gap, grumpy sunshine kind of book..because Maggie and Owen are opposites but there is a spark between them that can't be denied.
Whiskey Mountain is a small town(I Love small towns)..everyone knows everyone and there is very little you can keep a secret.
Maggie owns the coffee shop and writes a blog which includes giving advice on love to people who write to the blog...she is like a ray of sunshine and believes in love and she really loves helping people solve their love dilema's.
Owen is new in town and his stay is only temporary he is there to improve development in Whiskey Mountain..so he is there for work for the time being until he can go back to New York...He is a bit grumpy and jaded he doesn't believe in true love after being hurt badly in the past.He is afraid of commitment but there is just something about Maggie that he is drawn to,but she is too young for him there is 12 years between them so he tries to avoid being in her company.
But fate has other ideas and they seem to be in eachothers space alot, could these two ever be on the same page for a chance of a relationship.?
This is such a refreshing feel good story that will make you smile, laugh and swoon in equal measure..there are some funny moments and I loved the animals in this book Leeroy and Pablo are hilarious.
Listening to this book was such a delight,it is funny, sweet, entertaining and sexy it was a pleasure to listen to...I am definately going to read/listen to Samantha Baca's books again.
A Wonderful story that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Loved it !

Something To Talk About by Samantha Baca is the first book in the Whiskey Mountain series and I am IN LOVE! Maggie and Owen are a sheer delight!

From the very first page the banter is lively and hilarious, drawing you into the world, into the story, into the lives of these two characters. Also, there is some great innuendo and inner monologue that kept a smile on my face!

Maggie is confident, kind, caring, intelligent, knows what she wants, what she deserves, what she has to offer, and refuses to settle for anything less. It's refreshing and so very admirable!

Owen is a bit of a curmudgeon, has some baggage that's impacted how he views the world, but at the very heart of him has so much love to give, just as long as he's willing to take that leap of faith.

The Ask Mags column is brilliant, a great vehicle for sharing Maggie's personality, her drive and desire to care for others, and to showcase how much she simply loves love. It's the miscommunications, the light drama, the wonderful messages of self love and acceptance, and how happiness comes in all forms. And the chemistry, the chemistry definitely factors! So if you're looking for a fun, fast paced, charming small town romance, this story will absolutely give you Something To Talk About!

P. S. I definitely want to visit this town, and I'd probably never leave! I want to go to Cool Cats!

P. P. S. I want tacos. Can Owen make them for me please and thank you?

P. P. P. S. Ramona (and Pablo!) are a hoot! Everyone needs that kind of a support network! Also, she needs her HEA!

P. P. P. P. S. I need a flat white. And to rewatch You've Got Mail!

SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT By Samantha Baca

Maggie runs a small cafe and a relationship advice column. Owen has shifted to Whiskey Mountain for a short period of time.

😊What i liked -

✔ Grumpy Sunshine/Insta Attraction/Age Gap/Small Town.
✔ Two chapters in and I had a whole lot of knowledge about "Banana and Nuts" and how Juicy a "Pineapple" is. (oh my i was smiling like an idiot within the first few pages).
✔ I am in love with Maggie and Owen. They are so cute together.
✔ The advice column was a great touch.
✔ Ramona (Maggie's bestie) is a hoot but Leroy and Pablo stole the show for me. (i need me one Leroy and Pablo each)
✔ It's a quick easy peasy read with the right amount of laughter, cuteness, tears and oooo so cute spice. (yes spice can be cute too).

🤔What could have been better -

✔ Could I find anything I would have liked to be different or better in this , the answer is a big fat NO. (not fat shaming fat or no). BUT yes I did not want it to end.

📚Who Should read :

👶Beginners
💝Romance Lovers
🌞Grumpy Sunshine
🏡Small Town

📈My Rating : 4.5/5

P.s - Impatiently patiently waiting for Ramona's story. I hope I see more of Dylan there.

Thank you Samantha Baca for a copy.

"Something to Talk About" by Samantha Baca, book #1 of the Whiskey Mountain series, was a fast-paced, funny, and sweet yet steamy story. The chemistry between main characters Owen and Maggie was apparent from the start, but Owen resisted his feelings for as long as he could because of baggage from the past that made him believe he was meant to be alone forever. Maggie, on the other hand, loved love and believed that there was a match out there for everyone, even though she hadn't found hers yet. She was incredibly mature for her age and I loved the thoughtful advice she gave through her relationship blog. Even though they faced a few challenges, Owen and Maggie made a great couple, and I was rooting for them the whole way.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this story and recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Maggie owns a coffee shop named Spill the Beans. She also has an advice column and blog about relationships. Owen is a grumpy out of towner. Every morning he stops in for a plain black coffee at Spill the Beans. Maggie tries to get him to try something new. Owen actually pays attention to her one morning, and she gets a little flustered. After that they keep running into each other and the more time Owen spends with Maggie the more he wants too. Owen has decided to never have a committed relationship again, after he was cheated on in his last one. So, when one night when things get a little heated and he rejects her. He then regrets it. Will she give him another chance? Things get interesting when he starts emailing her for advice.
Loved it! It was a captivating small town, Romance. The story easily flowed along. There is HOT chemistry between Owen and Maggie. I also loved the animal characters. Pablo and Leroy are always up to something! I highly recommend.

This is the first book in Samantha’s Whiskey Mountain Series. She is kicked it off with kicked it off with a bang. The characters are so lovable and the chemistry between them great. You have this small town where everyone know everyone. This new sexy mystery man comes to town, the quiet, grumpy older guy who keeps to himself. Then you have a young coffee shop owner, who believes in love so much she shares and encourages others with her blog. This was such a fun read, hard to put down as you watch the interactions between Maggie and Owen. Then you throw in the panty-eating turtle and potty mouth parrot you never knew what was going to happen. I can not wait to see what Samantha has in store for the next two books in the series.

Maggie owns the local coffee shop in a small Montana town. She also has a blog that gives love life advice. Owen is in town trying to help town leadership develop an old shopping center. But he is also escaping NYC and the heartache of a bad break-up. Their connection is strong but Owen worries that Maggie wants a commitment, something he does not think he is capable of any longer.

This is the first book in a new series and I am looking forward to the others. It sets up some of the other characters that I assume will get their own stories as well. It is a fast-paced read and you will like the fun personalities and some of the quirky happenings.

Couldn't love this book more!

This book was so much fun to read I can't stop talking about it! Why would you want to when you can relive Maggie's horror of being hit in the face with a door then having her spicy audio book going off in front of an hot guy!? Aka Owen the new guy who keeps to himself. Plus who wouldn't want to read a book with a talking parrot that makes you laugh with every word! Not to mention the turtle that loves to eat every pair of panties he can find!
At first glance Owen and Maggie seem like they wouldn't be a good fit. She is so much younger and is a romantic at heart. Owen is only in town temporarily and has no desire to give his heart to anyone. Samantha does a fantastic job of making me laugh while falling for this great couple.

She owns a coffee shop and also write a blog about love.. She had went through a bad break up and was convinced that she wouldn't find her person.. Then there was Owen, he was from NYC just out there to develop some land in the small town, we wasn't looking for anything or so he told himself that.. But he couldn't get her out of his head and he didn't know why.. They started hanging out together as friends but then one night the lines got blurred for them both.. If u want more u will have to get ur hands on this one!! I absolutely 💯 % loved it..

Another adorable and quirky romance story from Samantha Baca! She always has a way of making us laugh out loud with the characters in these fun stories! This story of Maggie and Owen is one of a reluctant guy who happens upon this small town, strictly on business, and finds something he didn't even know he wanted... a sweet younger girl who wanted to fall in love! This story shows you that you never know what could be thrown in your path and you might just want to take a chance on it! This story is fun, sweet, and so witty!

Dual POV/Grumpy-Sunshine/Insta Attraction/Age Gap/Small Town/HEA
This book was funny and sweet with some steam. There is not a single part of this book that I would change, I especially love Paulie. The chemistry between Owen and Maggie is off the charts. Owen is older and although he is attracted to her thinks that because she is only 23 and he is 12 years older than her that he shouldn’t want her. Maggie is young, strong, smart very mature for her age and she knows what she wants and its Owen to be her first. They are adorable together. Love this book

This book has it all...small town romance, age gap, smexy times. Leroy the turtle and Pablo the talking bird were so funny! I usually shy away from stories with "exotic pets", but the author really did a great job. Maggie runs a coffee shop and blogs on the side with relationship advice and is in LOVE with love. Owen is a real estate guru from NYC and avoids commitment of any kind. The chemistry between these two is off the charts. I couldn't put this one down and even got the bonus epilogue! Hope there is a story for Ramona in the works! Love these Whiskey Mountain folks.

Cute

I love Maggie. It’s so rare to find a character that just makes you wanna hug her from the very start and she just totally puts that vibe out. This age gap romcom was such a great read. Not only does it have such personality but the characters are amazing and their relationships developed in this story are so perfectly progressive that it made following along easy and seriously enjoyable. I loved getting introduced to Whiskey Mountain in a way that made you feel part of the small town. I am excited for what is still to come with this world that Samantha has created.

An aspirational life

She is twenty two runs a coffee shop and a successful blog. She gives out advice and everyone loves her. She waited for her prince charming. He's established with a good job and lives in the big city but moved to her small town to help develop it.
I liked the pining but once they actually started their relationship. There was no further growth. It was physical. He wouldn't open up to her. He was scared she would depend on him. I don't think she had an emotional need.
And I hated Ramona.

Maggie and Owen—she owns a coffee shop and writes an advice column and blog on relationships, even though she’s a virgin; he works with a developer and is in town for at least six months while his company revamps the local strip center. They’re attracted to each other, but he’s sworn off of love after his fiancée dumped him and ran off with his best man/former best friend while she’s looking for the whole shebang with the white picket fence. It’s a sweet story but comes across as somewhat unbelievable, hence the three stars. Not a bad story, though. Just meh.

I really liked this novella. I absolutely loved Maggie and her take no shit attitude. I love that she stuck to what she knew she deserves and didn’t waver for even a second. This is definitely a quick read.

Owen! I loved him so much. His character growth was so good and I was rooting for him so hard the entire time. Although I was ready to scream at them myself their relationship felt real especially with both of their pasts.

What a fun fast read set in the cutest small town. Maggie the owner of Spill the Beans coffee shop and blog Just the tip loves live but has yet to find her one. Handsome but older Owen who is in town working a development project stumbles upon her shop and can't help but fall for her charms. These two have fantastic sexual tension that keeps you on your toes waiting for the action. Throw in a dirty talking pet bird and a panty stealing turtle to round out this hysterical novella.

Short, sweet and quirky novella and I’m here for it!! It also had some very good spice. I mean Owen is much older than Maggie and much more ✨experienced✨ He is very reluctant to open up to her at first and she practically has to beg him to even be friends. Speaking of "Friends", Owen quotes/ mentions friends twice and that’s what makes him even more delicious to me😏As a small side story, Maggie has a panty eating turtle and I laughed out loud every time it came up. Let’s just say I enjoyed this book very much and will definitely be reading more from Samantha Baca.

This book was so cute!! 😍

Maggie owns a coffee shop in addition to having and advice blog. What sort of advice? Why love of course! Maggie wholeheartedly believes in love but, she’s not going to compromise herself or what she wants to find her own happy ending. Owen is sort of the handsome new grumpy businessman in town who likes his coffee black and does not seem to have much faith in love or relationships.

There were so many funny, adorable, a little angsty, and definitely steamy moments between Owen and Maggie. And, plenty of laugh out loud moments through the whole book 😄

Loved this little world of Whiskey Mountain!

✨Quick Notes✨
Small town
Age gap
Some super funny banter
Opposites attract perhaps?

Maggie and Owen were so cute! I loved this story and how easily it flowed. I was not 100% with the narrator but I am happy that I got to listen to this story and appreciate it.

Maggie and Owens story was about the start of something new. It was their story about the journey to giving something new a try. Though the steam was light I still really enjoyed their story. I cannot wait to read the other books in this series!

Looking for more

Maggie and Owen's story will grab your heart strings. Maggie is a Virgin & has a blog giving out advice on all topics of sex. Owen in town for work & meets & falls in love with Maggie, but he's gun shy because he was deeply hurt & his big issue is their age difference. Maggie proves that she's more mature than women much older. Her turtle that loves her sexy underwear will have you laughing. So many different emotions evolve out of their story. Awesome read!

Maggie a small town lady and Owen a city guy only in town for work. They are attracted to each other. Neither has had a great experience in their previous relationship. Owen is more resistant to a relationship than Maggie. I loved her friend Ramona she was so start forwarded. Loved the advice column and Leroy.. A good fun read
