At their first KBF concert, Mayuko and Ohba-san get closer and closer, and the hand he held is burning hot!! Mayuko's pulse races, but is that because of the concert? Or is it something else? And on top of everything, now a top idol joins the love triangle?!
This earns its extra star for its superb handling of what could have been a very annoying romantic rival plotline and the way that it really grew into itself as a charming story.
Oh, was that too abrupt? You’re telling me. Yet another three volume manga series (I have the worst luck with these for some reason) comes to a sudden stop with an excessive sense of ‘okay all done bye here’s the door’ and not much in the way of reader satisfaction.
Watching Mayuko come out of her shell in the first volume was so much fun, but I don’t feel like anybody has overcome social anxiety that crippling this fast in recorded history. By the end of this she’s basically a dynamo.
Ohba gets completely sidelined, essentially turned into a hunky MacGuffin (MacHunkin?) for the two girls to go after. Our rival just sort of... exists... and doesn’t honestly seem invested in the experience at all. I can relate.
After last volume was essentially just a long date, this one crams in confessions, rivals, heartfelt talks, problems that help Mayuko show how far she’s come, and an ending that’s about three pages long and lands with the grace of a sack of potatoes in ballet shoes.
2.5 stars. I’ll round down because this series squandered its potential in a way that, the more I reflect on it, I cannot forgive. It’s truly, honestly, perfectly nice and, in this instance, I’m damning it with faint praise quite deliberately.
I confess that I DO feel let down by this third volume. I was legit on cloud nine with the previous two volumes, but this one…I don't know.
Okay, well first, it was NOT bad. I think the story itself was very solid, but the first two volumes felt very original to me and this one didn't feel quite as "original." It makes me SO very sad to say that considering my feelings so far have been excited, but this one had a slight subplot that I feel took away from the overall story. It was good, but I don't think it's what I ultimately wanted if that makes sense.
One thing that was really amazing though about this volume is that we really see how much Mayuko has come out of her shell. She has grown SO much since the beginning! And though she is still very much herself, I feel she is learning the power of what someone said to her:
"There's nothing embarrassing about doing something you put your whole heart into."
Despite if this volume is my least favorite of the series, it was very satisfying to see her take a brave stand at the end. <3
I still definitely recommend this series, though I would give a word of caution with the third volume in that it does "deviate" a little bit from what I felt was the heart of this story. Those first two volumes are a favorite! <3
Really glad I got to read this, & see the final ending. It was super cute and extremely fitting. While the reader knew the outcome, it was still fun to watch it unfold in such a peaceful fluffy way (Yay for girls supporting girls and none of the cat claw nonsense you see in other stereotypical love triangle tropes).
This was a cute end to the series, but...I wanted more! Things just felt a bit too rushed to me. I wish there had been at least one more volume to flesh things out.
Really loved this sweet series, just wish the mangaka was given a little more time to stretch out the finale and make it last longer; it felt so rushed in the second half of this volume.
Very cute series overall, I do think this could have been a volume or two more to fully develop it more cause we didn't get enough of Ohba in this volume. But I am fully on board with this author, I need to find more of her works.
The "When We Shout for Love" series by Yuka Kitagawa is a wholesome and satisfying read.
It's about friendship, empowerment, and about being passionate about the things you like.
This is a read for everyone that likes stories about fandoms. Especially if you like when fans meet their idols!
I flew through this series, and couldn't get the next volume fast enough.
Cute, adorable, and fast-paced with reliable characters. I loved the growth Mayuko go through, the music that inspires her, and the fanciable Ohba-kun for his support and patience as Mayuko struggles with her anxiety.
It was nice to read a story with no miscommunications but with positive messages about not caring about other people looking at you, and daring to do the things you love.
But I'm sad now because volume 3 was the last in the series. One thing is sure, I will check out the author's other works!
