"At the end of the day, you need to ask yourself, why are you doing this? do you really want to know God or are you doing it to impress someone else? To fully embrace Islam and feel its blessings requires sincerity".
Forth book in the Letters To God series.
It follows the story of Jonah, who thought he had everything in the world; handsome face, wealth, health, brain, friends and lovely family. But one thing he do not have is, Sarah. He could charmed every single girl he wanted with his blue eyes, sweet words and good look, but not her.
When Jonah first stumbled upon Sarah that he realised life is more than what he knows about and live in. Despite having all of the thing he have, he still feels empty deep inside and his search of a meaningful life and eternal contentment begun.
I fell for Jonah's parents in this one. They are so funny! I legit laugh over their talks about religion. And the plot twist, of the character Carmen, I did not see that coming!
One third of the book is a recollection from the previous ones. It is as a way for those who follows this series to recalls and those who started with only this book to take a glimpse of whats happening. If you are new, though its already satisfying reading only this book, you have to read the prequel, followed by the sequels.
The ending of this book is in the previous sequel, but rest assured, it doesn't spoil anything, because this book is about Jonah's journey both towards searching of faith and Sarah.
Overall, I love all four books equally and I am excited to read the fifth and last one. All the best Norhafsah and Iman team! I hope theres more people would be touched by this series.
In Dear God, we read the story from Jonah’s point of view. As the story starts off with a wish when he was a child, I see how amazing his character development is. This book is such an emotional experience because it is his story and his journey on returning back to Allah. Furthermore, it is heartwarming to see how with Mat Bond and Jaws help, Jonah began to fall in love with the beauty in Islam as he pursuing his knowledge on Islam. My love towards Mat Bond and Jaws is never going to end because they always amaze me in every book.
Aside from them as my favorite character, this time I love Jonah’s parents soooo much. They truly support Jonah’s choice and I legit want more scenes with them because they never fail to make me laugh so hard. Towards the end, I’m left with butterflies in my stomach seeing how loyal Jonah is from the start.
Full rant review: https://youtu.be/RK0J6FrgdNc Dear God, why oh why did you made me read this? At least in Letters to God it was simple and humble and was just trying to be itself. I've also read this and Rough Diamond and felt cheated by the blurb thinking it is going to be something life-changing and different. But ended up being simpler than the Islamic novels I read in school. It put nothing new to the table. I'm surprised by the 4-star rating and I'm not going easy on this just because this book has Islamic themes. It's a sequel spin-off and somehow it felt so disconnected for Letters to God. If LTG was in first person but this one is in third-person perspective. Nothing wrong with that. But from Jonah's perspective, Sarah, the titular perspective in LTG who was a sweet relatable girl all of a sudden becoming a total Mary Sue, flawless and boring like a typical drama pukul 7 heroine. I get it that it's because of his feelings but come on, it makes the book unbearable. I rolled my eyes so many times as I read this that I got dizzy. Jonah's journey to revert to Islam was smooth and unrealistic. It is a really shallow read for such a complicated issue. I don't know but I'm pretty sure that only 0.01% of reverts could relate. His family was chill, he has no qualms over the no-drinking or no-pork aspect. A revert's journey is not an issue to simplify and needs to be handled with care. It's clear that Norhafsah Hamid did not try to do her research on a revert's journey. Not just one person but draws from multiple sources. The novel is trying to portray him as someone who has been somewhat Islamic by nature deep-down in his core. I do believe that this type of person exist but the lack of conflict in his journey makes it so superficial. Also, her writing style, sentence structure and vocabulary are mostly very basic. Plus, the grammatical errors are too much for me to handle. If this book is traditionally published, then shouldn't it be professionally edited? The characters lack depth. If you need some Islamic novel just go read anything from Habiburrahman El-Shirazy.
How do I even begin? Ermm... If you follow Norhafsah's writing journey from the beginning, then you know about Heaven Sent. After I finish reading it, I thought "Wow, this book is going to be hit." But I always felt that there's a bit gap, especially at the ending. Don't want to spoil it here. Go and read it first. Haha.
Then came Rough Diamond, which there's a bit of cross-over ending there as well. But I still wasn't satisfied. I wanted more. Especially on Jonah's part. In Heaven Sent & Letters to God, it was more on Sarah's part. Rough Diamond focuses more on Linda's.
Then came Dear God. Finally!! In this book, we get to know Jonah's a bit better. About his family, his friends & also his background. Again, don't want to give any #spoileralert here. #thestruggleisreal
I just love the way Norhafsah portrays Jonah's character from the beginning until the end. His journey of finding the truth after he meets Sarah is well-written. There's more scene between Jonah, Jaws & Mat Bond as well with their Kelantanese dialect than the previous 2 books. I kinda feel jealous of their #friendshipgoals.
Overall, there's a lot of emotions after finish reading this book. You will laugh, you will cry, you will smile, and you will have a lot 'Awwwhhh' moment especially when you reach the ending.
Very light reading, I finish it less than 3 hours. If you have any friends or know someone who is just reverting back to Islam, I would suggest reading this book. It's not your typical Islamic book like teaching you how to perform prayers, etc.. but it's a book about the journey in finding the truth and fall in love with Islam.
Then I can sit back and wait for the finale! Haha...
Bagaimana akhirnya mereka bertemu “The Real Love”.
I feel that this book could be better. At times, it felt redundant because it simply repeats what happened in the previous book. Jonah's journey seems nice but it seems too easy. Like the previous books, I dont like the way the other characters see Sarah. If it's not because of the supporting characters like Jaws, Bond and Imam Steven, I don't think I can finish this book.
Dear God is the sequel to Letters to God. Dear God is from Jonah's point of view while Letters to God from Sarah's. The author, Norhafsah has written a tender memorable story of young love and soul in search of faith. One may relearn on Islam from Jonah's journey.
Masyaallah I cannot do this any longer. They're so cute😭😭😭😭 to have a love life blessed by Allah is the dream fr 🙁🙁🙁🙁 the amount of times I cried reading how Jonah opened up to Islam are uncountable 😭😭
I love this book. Very easy reading book. I love the comedy part of Jaws and his kelantanese langguage. It is a cliche or simple story of one guy revert to islam but i love it for being that simple. I really love how the book ends with Jonah's letter to God 😭
This is the fourth book from the series of Letters to God, written by @norhafsah.hamid . Even though I am far from whatever that Jonah had experienced (from a non-Muslim, becoming a Muslim), but I cried several times reading it. I am emotionally connected with this book. The character development of this book belongs to Jonah. It is his story of returning back to Allah SWT.
Being rejected countlessly by Sarah, he began to wonder why. He got it all. Handsome, smart and everything that a woman called as dreamy guy but Sarah. Sarah shows no interest at all in him. With Mat Bond and Jaws help, he started to know about the reason why Sarah behaving like that and subhanallah, he started to get to know Islam. I think it is brilliant that the author makes a clear distinction about Jonah. Whether he pursue his knowledge in Islam solely because of Sarah, or Sarah is merely sparking his intention in seeking about Islam. These two might seem as similar thing but it is not. It is actually two different thing.
We can see that, as Jonah pursuing his knowledge about Islam, he began to fall in love with the beauty of it and eventually his desire towards Sarah changed. The previous one that he had before he knew about Islam no longer existed. ----- I think if we try to take this story from a different perspective, we can see that determination of a person who want to seek knowledge resulted a good difference in their life.
Even though some of you might say, “this is a story of a reverted Muslim, how can I relate?”. I beg to differ, as every single of us is actually struggling on returning to the right path. Being a practicing Muslim is really hard if you didn’t make any effort to learn about Islam. How can you love something or someone you don’t know about it/him?
So yeah. This is a good book and I enjoyed it. Alhamdulillah. A leisure and joyable read. Not too complex or full of twist like that, but I love it anyway. 🥰
•I love this book - it's like LTG and HS but from Jonah's pov •It was an amazing read for me •Filled with so much moments that made me laugh and cry and learn •Especially the one when Jonah was so nervous to speak of his intention to Sarah's dad that made Mat Bond just went for it🤣🤣 (I laughed when reading it in HS and again here)
first thing first, this book is the fourth sequel of Letters To God.
It is an exquisite story that I've ever read although it has a very simple storyline (in my opinion). It was so great for those who wanted to know about the story of Muslim's who is reverting into Islam. It seems to me that Jonah a.k.a Mohammed Youssef Abdullah is the chosen one to have Islam and Sarah, both at once in his life. This book tell us all about Jonah's journey in searching his faith and also his determination to know Sarah more.
I honestly believe that the repetitive content here is to remind for those who couldn't remember which situation is this and that in these whole story. For me, it's quite boring this time so you can avoid reading slump here. Alternatively, it's okay, it's still suits for those who are a beginners because as long as we called it a book, hell yeah.
In contrast, I love this one because there had also a great du'a for Muslims just like us to practice in our life, which in here, Jonah did some in his life. He has a pure heart which anyone can fell for him, the relationship between his parents and friends are great too. In this book, I could tell that Jonah's is a very handsome British guy. LOL.
Some people said that there might be uhhh aghhh and awhhh in this book. hahahha yess it's true though. Especially, in the epilogue, it's full of awhh moment there. You guys must read this. It's a must read book. I guess that's all for now.
A new view on how a non-muslim view Islam. The way jonah was interested in learning Islam was because of Sarah at first, but he started realizing that Islam are beautiful on its own. He was intrigued on why Sarah rejected him and somehow his ego could not accept it and find Sarah interesting as day pass.
Notice how Jonah actually started to realized that there is more around him when he started to know more about Islam. When the two started teaching him about Islam, it just show how beautiful the religion really is and the author really manage to pull this off. when John finally enter Islam, honestly that scene really are beautiful and the author managed to pull the readers together in Jonah journey of knowing Islam.
For me the author successfully tie all the books together, (this is a letter to god series) and the book actually can be read without following the sequence even if all the books are actually a continuos series of the friends journey. The author also manage to touch readers heart and make them cried together while following Jonah journey. The ending also gave us a satisfying feeling and honestly the relationship between Sarah and Jonah are really cute and make me smile from ear to ear. The relationship between the other characters are also really cute and the two protectiveness towards Sarah really show how good of a character are them. And the fact that Jonah actually join the two in protecting Sarah just make me squel more.
Jonah thought he had everything a guy could never needed to sail through life. A family that is supportive, cool friends that made university life a breeze and looks that won him the affection of many girls.
Except for one - Sarah
An encounter with Sarah made Jonah realise that there is more to life than the one revolving around him. Jonah decides to brave the path least taken in search for the meaning of eternal contentment. He found himself connecting to the One that he gas long forgotten since he was little.
First impression when checking the cover, perhaps another islamic teaching books from Norhafsah Hamid. After complete reading: Is this Ayat-ayat cinta in English? An islamic love story between Jonah and Sarah, there you go the real spoiler.
How Jonah journey who admire to Sarah, started to have interest in Muslim, learn what is Islam from his friends and by attending classes in mosque, and finally decide to revert to Islam. He found himself in Macca to make umra and bravely made up himself to hand in marriage to Sarah.
However, from reading perspective it has to be the best books from the three sequel from letters to God. It shows how the best way a man should do in order to have faith in Islam. It need to be sincere from the heart not from other reasons such as marriage and people request.
Happy ending - Jonah and Sarah finally unite.

I’ve read this books series when I was in semester break. Which is about 3 months had passed when I’m writing this review.
I read the abridge one. But there is no abridge version yet on good-reads. Hence I’m going to leave the same review through all series.
I like the main character sarah. She obeys to the Islamic laws and recommendations, take good care of herself, she’s an independent girl and respectful to her parents and family. Sarah was not only taking care of her friends, but also her friend’s parents. Which I think is a good character that we should follow.
But I don’t like Sarah’s character of being bad tempered. Whereby, all of her friends know if there is thing that she doesn’t like, she will be mad.
To me, being a muslim, we should not getting mad easily. There are things that we can be mad or better be silent, or we can give advice appropriately.
Plot-wise. Some people commented that it was cliche. But personally, it’s fine with me. Because, throughout reading the book, you get the hidden messages the writer trying to convey.
It is one and the latestttttt sequel from #LettersToGod. I've been waiting for this one like for months. We can see this is from Jonah side (if you guys already read Heaven Sent and Rough Diamond, then you're already their story) and this one is more details for Jonah.
Jonah is a young boy with a looks that will won him affection of many girls but except for one - Sarah.
As how many attempts he made to win Sarah's heart, Sarah didn't fell for him. That moment when Sarah said that she didn't date and she's a muslim, Jonah start to find out about muslim and islam.
Jonah starts to learn about Islam through their friends; Mat Bond and Jaws. Then, he continue his study about Islam at the mosque near to his work place after their university days.
How his story with Sarah will be connected again?
It is mashaAllah very lovely and i cannot help falling in love 😂
"All of us are sinners. We each have our own baggage of mistakes and shortcomings." - Norhafsah Hamid, Dear God.
Another installment to the Letters to God (LTG) series, Dear God is about Jonah's heartfelt journey in reverting into a Muslim after his encounter with Sarah, Mat Bond and Jaws during his college years. It's about his struggles and doubts in searching of faith and meaning of eternal contentment.
There were a lot of touching scenes that brought tears to my eyes. I love how supportive his family and friends are towards his decision to revert. I also love how the "draft emails" arc pans out, it was SO CUTE!!!
Reading this book also reminds me of how much I love Mat Bond as a character in the LTG saga. He was so helpful and patient towards Jonah in explaining about Islam to him. I hope he find his happiness eventually
I think this book is better than Rough Diamond (book3). But yet, dissatisfied with the short description in certain scenes. Like please describe more! In detail, please. I love Jonah’s personality. He is a gentleman, full of curiosity, innocent and cute (especially when he is confused). I knew the ending I read this because I want to know each character of this series in deeper. I think I love Jonah hahaha because Sarah is too humorless. Meanwhile, Linda is more loveable when she changed, but her book is less remarkable to me, as it failed to make me felt something while reading it. Reading Dear God made me laugh at some comical scenes, deeply moved when Jonah was at Makkah and happy for him to finally married to Sarah.
This is soo much better than "Letters to God", probably because the main character is Jonah. This book spans out to years and I liked it, I became attached more to Jonah, Mat Bond & Jaws. This trio is just the cutest. I literally rotfl whenever they speak in Kelantan accent. One thing that just bother me was.. the part when Jonah told his parents that he's reverting to Islam. That part was.. stupid. I mean.. idk if Lizzie & Mike were playing dumb or they're just really ignorant & stupid. I mean races and religion are 2 totally different things and Islam is obviously a religion. But I get it.. people in 2000s don't have the internet and resources to know that so that's probably why. But the whole conversation was just cringe lmao
Dear God by Norhafsah Hamid . . The second last book in the series. This time, the book tells us more on Jonah’s self-discovery. All the struggles that he had gone through to learn more about Islam. . . It’s important to know the reason of you pursuing something. Sometimes it’s because of a person and sometimes it’s solely for the sake of Allah. And if it’s the later, in sha Allah He will guide you and make it ease for you. . . Also, make duas. A LOT...If you want something make dua. If it’s meant for you, it will. And if it’s not...Allah surely will replace it with something else..with something much BETTER than what you’ve wished for.
Jonah character in this book is an eye opener to me. It provide an image and struggle of a revert in a different angle. Moreover, the author did a good job in ensuring the character understand Islam where by it could spark interest of the reader to continue reading. For a second, there are instances, when an image of Jonah could be imagined in my mind and how he reacts. That itself shows how good of an impact the book is and this is my favourite book from the series because of the development of the character and it is the best climax of the series so far. A good book for newbie in Islam or those who are just about to learn on Islam.
I am left with this fuzzy warm feelings. I love hopeless romantic scene and this goes beyond that, because everything is in "halal" way. I cringed a lot reading this but I loved it! I think I love this book more than "Letters to God". I dislike Sarah character from the first book, but from Jonah pov I think I befriend Sarah again this time.
The only flaw that I found is perfection. Everything in this book is way too perfect, the characters, friends and family. Nobody is a bad guy in here. Sorry to be the bad guy in here but I love me some antagonist here. Nonetheless I need to get to the next book from this series soon. I love me some "Jonah" in future, maybe. 😂
"Tears stung Mat Bond's eyes. He marvelled at God's Mercy. He will guide those He chooses to guide and Jonah is one of the chosen ones."
I thought I will see Jonah's journey to Islam like Linda's but I was proven wrong. Very wrong. It's very touching and I love the way he lets everything under Allah's control and just followed the way.
I can't help but reminisce the first time I saw Kaabah too when Jonah caught the first sight of it. Indeed, it was magical *dreamy eyes*
Anyway, seeing Jaws-Linda made me wanna re-read Rough Diamond, but I know Divine Blessings is waiting for me, wrapping up all the characters' stories.
I absolutely loved this book! I read the whole book in one sitting!
I loved the subtle love story that has got going on for both Jonah and Sarah and the fact that this book was set mainly from Jonah's point of view makes it so much better. I loved the Islamic lessons from this book and was very proud to see Jonah's character development as the book went along. I absolutely loved his journey on becoming a Muslim. Stories about reverts always do something to me.
Moreover, their love story after Jonah reverted got me blushing, giggling, squealing, and kicking my feet! I was so happy for Jonah and Sarah and loved the whole book with my all my heart.
All I could say.. it was beautifully written by the author. Norhafsah Hamid is indeed one of my favourite authors of all time! Jonah’s journey to find the meaning of Islam really opened my eyes and warmed my heart. Through thick and thin, it felt like I was there. Reading pages through pages, along with Jonah’s journey. I am not denying that.. honestly I shed a lot of tears because of this heartwarming story. And yes, there’s a Kelantanese slang that made me giggled a lot.
Last but not least, “Allah guides whom He wills.” Quran 2:272
Hafsah Hamid is one of the authors yang suka include Islamic quotes and Islamic perspective. Dia ni suka sangat dekat Sarah, however Sarah rejected him. Then dia try to find reasons why Sarah rejected him. So dia terbuka hati to learn about Islam. Cumanya, kalau buku ni lebihkan lagi POV Jonah, maybe it can be much more interesting.
A story about Jonah who is a play boy and always dating with girls. After knew Sarah and being rejected by her, he felt offended and some how makes him to be close with Sarah who is a muslim girl. From there he learnt more about islam and started to love about islam. An accident happean that encourage him to choose islam. He reverted to Islam and practice Islam in his everyday life. And finally her got married with his love of hid heart, heaven sent from God.
