Somehow Nate’s mixed up in a crime group and has to protect him before they kill him. Mae realises there’s more than one hidden bomb she needs to defuse in order to stop her worst nightmares coming true. Can she help Nate, and her team and in doing so reconnected with the only skill she has?

You're really going to love this series, a group of very talented authors are all doing a character each. This is Mae's story, she's one of a group of strong women seeking revenge and righting wrongs.
Mae and Nate, she's a member of a team that fights evil. He's a guy down on his luck thanks to his ex. Who are these guys that keep beating up on him? She's a victim of survivor guilt, drinking herself into oblivion and he's her neighbour and saviour. Though I feel they will save each other. There is a connection between his problems and her team's mission. We watch the author weave her tale connecting all the pieces. Fantastic story, I highly recommend it and the rest of the series.
4 1/2 stars Have you ever failed at something really important and lost confidence in yourself? Well multiply that feeling by at least ten and you’ll know just a smidge of how Mae felt after failing in her mission. My heart went out to her when I read the prequel in this series and it only ached more for her in this story.
She is such a gutsy, take no prisoners type of person yet even the strongest can feel enormous pressure and loss of confidence. This story demonstrates this in a very real way. At times, I will admit I wanted to encourage and try to coax Mae into trying to move forward and this shows how involved you become with the story.
Nate is another person who has been seriously burned in relationships but even worse, has unintentionally become involved with a criminal element who won’t leave him along. I liked Nate straight away as well, and to be honest, I couldn’t think of anyone better suited for him than Mae at this stage in his life. He is so good for her and although they are almost opposites, the old saying rings true here, I feel because they certainly did have a magnetic attraction.
When the action heats up the intensity is full on and it is literally goodies against baddies. I thoroughly enjoyed the smaller touches in the story as well like the art element, very poignant. Lots of emotions, as you would expect, of all kinds, although, this is an uplifting story. I only wish it had been a little longer, I could have cheerfully read more.
Hidden Bombs, book 3 of The Phoenix Force Series was a very good read with a very good plot. There was some great action scenes, with a great balance of romance and how to deal with some heavy situations. I liked Mae’s character and thought the problems she faced where a very real representation of what people go through when dealing with feelings of guilt even when everyone else can see it wasn’t there fault. The fact that she cared so much about Nate and was willing to work through her issues in order to help him showed what a great woman Mae truly is. Nate was also a great character, just a man who cared so deeply and was basically in a situation that had nothing to do with him. You could tell he just had this eternal goodness about him and it was actually super interesting to see the juxtaposition between the two characters and them navigating that. I hope their future is as bright as the two people are. I loved seeing the Phoenix women, would have loved to see more but know they’re all coming. Can’t wait to read book 4!
I am disappointed that this author didn't stick with reason Phoenix Force was formed. In first two books in series (written by Susan Horsnell) the team members were going after people who legal sources couldn't handle. Team members brought justice by removing them permanently! In Hidden Bombs, criminals were just turned over to the police... What?!!! Also referred to the computer operative by incorrect name calling her Rino...there is no character by that name on the team! Correct character name is Tiffany or her handle Glinda. Story line in this book was weak and poorly written. I really enjoyed first two books and hope future ones improve.
Such a good book in this series. I loved Mae and Nate and how the author showed that men can be vulnerable too. I loved that in the beginning that it was Nate that was going to save Mae from destroying herself and it turned around them saving each other. Very good. Highly recommend this series.
