From the extremes of the polar regions to the homely woodland with which we are all familiar, Animals presents some of the world's best-known and best-loved creatures-as well as some of the most unusual. From the big game animals of Africa to the brilliantly colored fish of the coral reefs, all forms of animal life are included within these pages. Full identification data are provided and the lively text provides fascinating information about the unique habits, life cycles and behavior of the great variety of creatures featured in this book. Many of the species discussed are threatened with extinction as the environments on which they depend are destroyed through human exploitation. Meticulously researched and illustrated with breathtaking color photographs, this is an absorbing introduction to the marvels of the animal, bird and insect life on our planet and the issues affecting their survival. Animals will inform and entertain readers of all ages.
The animals come from all over the world and all types, but mostly mammals and birds. 338 animals had pictures, some had more than one of that subspecies.
The animals are divided into eight chapters or regions: Polar, Tundra and Taiga, woodlands and forest, mountain, desert, grassland and savannah, swamp, river and lake, Ocean and Coral reef, and Tropical forest. At each chapter there is an introduction to the region. On the spread of both pages there is one to four animals talk about. Their name, size, distribution, identification, and a summary of the animal. The pictures are sometimes spread out on two pages like the bald eagle or lioness, then most of the others is full or half a body, a couple on have head shots like the mountain lion (there are two better pictures in the back they didn't use) or mandrill.
Most of the summary information from the beginning to middle had more information I didn't hear of from that animal, from middle to end was more regular information or environment issues.
Some familiar animals in the book: Polar Bear, Walrus, Arctic Wolf, Musk Ox, Badger, Red Fox, etc.
Some unfamiliar animals in the book: Greater Snow Goose, Eurasian Lynx, Chamois, Grant's Golden Mole, Striped Possum, etc.
Some that had no picture: Narwhal, Lemming, Wood Mouse, Whippoorwill, European Pond Turtle, etc.
As an encyclopedia lover this is a treasure! I remember I found this discarded on the floor at a department store and just by looking at the cover I knew I had to get it. It's informative and beautiful. The photography is outstanding and I love that we get to see the different ecosystems. Any animal lover will enjoy this 🦧🦒🦦🦈
