Mark Franley was born in Nuremburg, Southern Germany, in 1972. Which is where he still lives with his wife and pet dog Buddy. Though his career as an author only began in his late thirties, his first thriller "Heuchler" (Charlatans) made it straight into the top ten of the German Amazon Kindle charts.
The main character, Detective Mike Köstner, enjoyed such popularity that the following books in the series, "Benutzt" (Used) and "Karla", both reached the Amazon top five within a couple of days.

Following the considerable success in Germany, the first instalment of the Detective Chief Inspector Köstner serial appears at the start of 2014 in English, with the title "Charlatans" and the Italian version of this book will follow by the middle of the year.

The German edition of "Heuchler" is also being produced by audible.de as an audio book, which will be available in Germany in the autumn of 2014.

Obwohl seine Karriere als Schriftsteller erst mit Ende dreißig begann, schaffte es bereits sein erster Thriller „Heuchler“, ohne Umwege in Amazons deutsche Top 10 Kindle-Charts.
Die Hauptfigur des Werkes, Mike Köstner, erfreute sich so großer Beliebtheit, dass auch die beiden Nachfolgebände „Benutzt“ und „Karla“ innerhalb von wenigen Tagen in den Top 5 zu finden waren.

Aufgrund des großen Erfolges in Deutschland erscheint Anfang 2014 der erste Band der „Kommissar Köstner“-Reihe, zunächst in englischer Sprache (Titel: Charlatans), und Mitte des Jahres auch in italienischer Sprache.
Außerdem wird „Heuchler“ durch audible.de als Hörbuch produziert und voraussichtlich im Herbst 2014 auf dem deutschen Markt erscheinen.

I was looking for music from the Band Charlatans, but found this book on Amazon and on impulse decided to have a look. I found the start a bit too brutal, and thought the formatting was strange, but then it settled down into a very nicely written, fast, direct, straightforward thriller. Building up the characters nicely and switching between all of them fluidly. It is a police thriller with a difference. The hero is on holiday and the action comes to him. I enjoyed the development of the story, but the ending upset me though. There is no padding here, it is fast and direct. Which is fine for a book you want to read without struggling through too many frills. I liked it.

Der Plot ist grundsätzlich gut, aber nach ein paar Seiten auch schon völlig absehbar. Der Schreibstil gleicht eher einem Schüleraufsatz. Die Geschichte spielt mehrheitlich in Finnland, aber die Protagonisten tragen schwedische Namen.
