The Ace of Shadows
A suspicious phone call received in the Agra jail, and two articles written by a retired Brigadier in a Pakistan newspaper, stir up India's Internal Intelligence Agency. Heart racing narration, vivid string of characters, and adventure packed premise.Everything fits perfectly together. As the story moves back and forth with mind-blowing discoveries dark secrets , i couldn't help and found myself entranced in the book.
The writing is good and Balakrishna Kamath did a great job bringing the characters to life. I enjoyed the unfolding of this magnificent story' and connected with it
I am in awe of new standpoint and world building that was presented.
What's beautifully achieved in this tale is that it includes such intricate information and plot unfolding in a way that i actually understood it and felt as if i was there right along side Godbole and others being part of the quest. What more does a reader wish for?
I was expecting a heavy read, surprisingly that didn't happen, for me this was a unputdownable read with action, suspense and dread that had me turning pages chapter after chapter! I was so into the book that I read it in one sitting!

The heart of a good mystery novel is not the caper but the personal and the moral issues that are being faced by the protagonist or a group of people that are all involved in the decision making that will lead to marking the destiny of so many others.
So it is safe to conclude that in a nutshell, the spy business and the secret agency genre books particularly fall on the clandestine side.
As a reader, we’re constantly kept on the edge of our seats and find ourselves asking if the parties involved are indeed doing the right thing and do the ends really justify the means.
‘The Ace of Shadows’ by Balakrishna Kamath is one such wonderful book that has a great story for all the espionage aficionado lovers out there that presents not only a great narrative but a good dose of thrill that is bound to keep us glued throughout the story.
Today, technology has developed by leaps and bounds and we have all the necessary means available right at our fingertips.
Hence, it was somewhat refreshing to read about this story, which is set in the nineties, when everything was relied on Human Intelligence and how motives played a huge part in the determining factor.
All the events that took place in the story were just something that happened, yet when we do a deeper introspection, we find out that nothing that went down was random, but rather it was an effort of years in making.
There is a famous saying that with great power comes great responsibility, and indeed it can be seen via the story how true this sentiment is. I loved reading this, hence I am going to give this book FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Ace of Shadows , novel by author Balkrishna Kamath is intriguing and a gripping thriller . This is my first read by the author and i am so mesmerised with his language and style of writing .
Author Balkrishna Kamath , an retired Intelligence officer , has perfectly narrated this novel which keeps the reader engaged from the beginning till the very end . Like watching a movie and wanting it to never end , this novel will make you want more of it. The story revolves around Mr. Godbole and his precise skills of intellectuality that helps connects the dots of the mission between agencies of Pakistan and India . With the clock ticking faster , Godbole and his team have to crack the battle and expose the enemy's plot . Will they be able to do it ?
Personally I picked up this book looking at the beautiful cover , and being a thriller fan i thought it would be my next good read , but turns out this was the ultimate experience of reading an amazing thriller and knowing more about the intelligence agencies and surveillance. If you are a thriller fan as well , i highly recommended this book to all .

The Ace of Shadows is a thrilling novel by author Balakrishna Kamath. An intriguing and a gripping thriller, what makes the book even more special is the detailed explanation of every minute procedure of the investigation.
Author himself worked as an Intelligence officer which can be easily reflected in his books.
The depth, the insights, the way investigation took place all the things are written in the book in a quite natural way as author used his own experience while penning down the book.
Narration is very captivating. Characters are very well developed throughout the story. Storyline is engaging with full of twists n turns, a and the blend of thriller and secret intelligence had worked perfectly well.
Author himself worked as an Intelligence officer which can be easily reflected in his books.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning. I'm a thriller lover and instantly fall for books like this.
This book has a unique concept, and I was engrossed in the investigation procedure. It seems like watching a film.
So, people, these days are fascinated by thriller movies and this is an amazing thriller by Balakrishna Kamath.
Balkrishna Kamath is a retired Intelligence officer of a premier Intelligence agency in India.
The story is set in the November 1989 – February 1990 period, when the espionage and intelligence collection still overwhelmingly relied on human intelligence.
The story revolves
around the Mission Mantra to the counter ISI's Mission BlackRock.
The main protagonist is Yashwant Narayan Godbole from Indian Internal Intelligence Agency who is a super sleuth and an Ace in that team, their next move, gathering information, detect and connecting the dots of the mission between the agencies of India and Pakistan.
I admire author Balakrishna Kamath
who worked for more than 39 years as an Intelligence officer. His experience and knowledge can put the light on this issue in his books.
The writing process made this book a proper page-turner that left me guessing till the end. Even after the major reveal in the climax, I was stunned for quite some time.
It engages the reader from the beginning.
There are lots of twists and turns in the story.
The title is well suited for the book.
The language of the book is lucid.
Overall it is engaging and a great read.

The concept of espionage and counter-espionage is explained briefly in the preface itself, and it shows how much serious the author is about the story he has to tell. The book is a take on the project and operations take place by Intelligence agency.
This is a story about the a spy war and how it is dealt by our calm, brilliant and intelligent officer. The protagonist of the story is Mr. Golbole, he is just stunning with the strings he pulls and connects the dots.
This book is special because Mr. kamath, the author is actually taking incident from his duty days and added a bit if fiction to it. So know that these incidents were almost actually true, was giving me goosebumps and I can't stop to flip through the pages and see the fate of the operation.
The story is set in 80s when attack and other inhumanly activities was on peak through Pakistan. One such activity is fought against in this book. The ISI from Pakistan through spy on India andin response Mr. Yashwant Narayan Golbole started an operation under the name 'Project Mantra'.
Overall it's a great page turner and one will definitely love this if they love to read stories about #warstories #crimestories #detectivestory #spystories #militarystories

I absolutely looking forward to read next one , I just love reading thrillers which are so realistic as real , hooked , Goosebumps with all twits and turns . I can say this was one such type .

Not many books have the ability to take the reader captive but this book was sheer brilliance because of the author's uncanny ability to plot intelligence affairs, the author writes from his own experience from working for the Intelligence and so the blot is very strongly built and had me HOOKED from the very first pages!
The book didn't disappoint in the thriller aspect either, as a thriller fanatic I love scrutinizing every single thing to not be surprised but the author has a flair for plotting and the book was so unpredictable and that's what I love in a good thriller!
The book is aptly described from the blurb which is why I picked up this book. The protagonist is Yashwant Narayan Godbole from Indian Internal Intelligence Agency who's a super sleuth and an Ace at that! The book takes on unexpected twists and turns yet it doesn't waver from the plot and so it's totally amazing in every way that matters!
The characters were really well written, the wordplay was uniquely his, the plot construction was REALLY good I could write poetry and odes dedicated to the plot alone, the narrative was slightly off from my regular reading preference that's the only reason I give this book a 4.8 otherwise this book has my heart! Can't wait to read more from the author!!

Solving this is one of the most difficult things because they almost zero clues and hints of what is going to take place and where. This case finds its hands buried in a years old case which was closed ever since. To know what toll it took Indian Intelligence Bureau and what it left Pakistan with, read this book and find out.

"The Ace of Shadows" is a beyond decent portrayal of importance of undercover agents in the face of such an unavoidable humanitarian crisis, yes I called it humanitarian and not national crisis because I believe terrorism is not just a national threat which jeopardises just our country, yes we have been facing quite alot of challenges regarding the same, but so is the world, that's why it's humanitarian.
Regardless, let's get back to the book, there's a tip off of an attack by ISI inside India, an inspector Mr.Godbole bears the heavy weight of solving a case which has all the lives of the country at stake.
In each and every chapter the depiction and portrayal proves the fact that it could have been only written by someone who has actually seen these things upfront, by someone who worked in Intelligence Bureau for 39 long years.
Everything was impeccable and the book is without a doubt un-putdownable, there's just one suggestion that the narration still has more room for improvement, but yes it is worth thriller readers time, I'll definitely wait for author's next venture.

Reading books about crime, the thrillers are my new favourite. I am soo much into this genre and have totally loved this book by the author. The book is dated back in 1980's where Mr. Godbole is the person seen solving the case with the evidence, taking a step at a time. We see that how successfully Mission Blackrock is stopped by the intelligence officers. The main plot is all about the proceedings that happen where each step/ action is noted down by the author.
The book cover and the title, both add much volume to the story. Characters are well organised and can be thought of as the real intelligence officers. This story is a wonderful insight of what a true thriller should be like.
If I talk about the author, he himself is a crime investigator and has planned to amaze our reading experience by writing such detailed and interesting stories.

As a thriller lover, I was bound to pick this book up. The title is what intrigued me the most.
It makes you ponder upon the plot, but no matter how hard you try, you’ll still be surprised by the book.
Initially it was hard to keep up with so many characters, but as I progressed, the plot kept getting mysterious and unpredictable and the characters developed wonderfully.
I admired the character of the protagonist, the most. Author nicely crafted all the characters, according to their respective roles. This is a rare writing quality which I’d like to appraise the author for. The narration itself made the plot more exciting.
For me the book paced up after the fourth chapter when Savla escapes from jail. It was all so gripping that I couldn’t put the book down. Chapter after chapter, it got more and more exciting!
This is a must read for all the thriller lovers out there. Knowing that the author has first hand experience of such similar situations, it got me even more involved in the book, imagining it as a real life story.

It's been a long time since I have read an intense thriller centered around an intelligence agency. Such books are specialized in never expected twists and turns and a strong political background. This book, The Ace of Shadows, too is not an exception.
The book piles up the curiosity elements right from the initial pages and develops slowly against a strong premise. The timely unfolding of events and unpredictable plot twists play a major role in keeping the readers glued to the book. However, what makes the book even more special is the detailed explanation of every minute procedure of the investigation.
The characters are well developed, with a sense of reality and humanness. All of them, major or minor, have their own identity and significance in the storyline.
The language is lucid, but the narration wasn't so impressive for me. Other than that, the book has everything to be a perfect page-turner - an intense plot, strong characters, jaw-dropping twists, and a strong message.

This is one of the most fascinating thriller that I have ever read. The convolution and turns took me on a roller coaster ride. The book kept me hung up to it until the last page. The thrill game between the spy and the officer was exhilarating indeed. I genuinely relished the way the curiousity has been maintained by the author throughout the book.

"The Ace of Shadows", is a striking thriller and suspense by Balakrishna Kamath. The cover of the book was so intriguing so I had high hopes from this one, because yes I do judge a book by its cover.
And let me tell you the story not only just touched my bar of expectations,but also made me a fan of the author's writing. I believe portraying is everything,and the way in which the author has penned down the gripping story,with utmost perfect narrative style and lucid language,I loved it. At few point I felt a less grip on character development, but still the plot and story will surely make up for it.
If you love reading thriller and suspense novels,this can surely be something which will intrigue you. Looking forward to read more of the author's work.
