Doggone it! No matter how carefully you organize and plan, some dog comes along and eats your day. Could be the computer freezes, or mom misplaces her purse over at the assisted living center, or a brand new granddog is experiencing separation anxiety. In The Dog Ate My Planner , Pat Snyder offers the sandwich generation a whole new approach to getting lots of fun stories about life gone wrong, plus 74 fun tips for setting it right.
Deliciously addictive! I absolutely loved The Dog Ate My Planner and quite literally had to tear myself away from reading it to do things that needed to be done. Pat Snyder has such a magnificent sense of humor and excellent way of looking at life, that you can't help but fall in love with both her and her book. To be wholly honest, as I read The Dog Ate My Planner, I felt as though Ms. Snyder knew me personally and was writing about aspects of myself and my life. It was a bit amazing and eye-opening, let me tell you!
The Dog Ate My Planner is divided into main chapter categories, which are then broken down into sub-categories. Each of these are short, to the point, and often times laugh-out-loud funny. The final page in each chapter is a summary of sorts, which states what topic was talked about and final feelings on that topic. Again, eye-opening and humorous. I especially loved all of the "e" talk and could completely relate. Those who have "grand-animals" will connect with Ms. Snyder's tales of her "grand-dog" and those who have children will delight in the commonplace daily occurrences that go along with this joyful treat called parenthood.
Everyone faces stress, decisions, dilemmas, daily difficulties and just the step-by-step wonders of life. The Dog Ate My Planner helps people to look at those things in a different way, adds a dose of humor and realize that you are not alone and it's okay not to be perfect. I wanted to share a couple of my favorite topics/chapters. "De-Stress with a Sigh of Relief" makes me chuckle and reminded me so much of my husbands philosophy of 'think the worst and when it doesn't go like you want, you won't be disappointed' I have to say that this drives me crazy!! In this lesson of Ms. Snyder's, she tells of the best way that she deals with stress, and that is to be a catastrophizer. In other words think of the worst case scenario and things will (hopefully) not seem so bad. In another section "Stalking Stuffing Stress Still Stalks Me (how can you not love that title?!) the author talks of her pursuit of the perfect stocking stuffers each year. Since it is the holiday season and I have two children of my own, I can completely relate to everything she mentions in here. This actually happens to be the case in much of what Pat Snyder writes about in The Dog Ate My Planner. It is because of this that I truly feel that this is a book that any and everyone can easily relate to and I guarantee you will laugh repeatedly.
The Dog Ate My Planner is a unique, highly engrossing and just plain the most fun book to read. I truly have to highly recommend this to everyone and what a perfect gift for even the hardest to shop for person!!! I dare you to not laugh as you race through the pages and revisit sections again and again!
Prepare yourself for one long laugh as you go through the same scenarios she does in your own life. She makes you realize laughter can get your through anything. If you're looking for a laugh as you juggle life's changes, advances and goofs, be sure to pick up a copy of The Dog Ate My Planner. It's one of those books you can pick up over and over again to help you see the humor in everything.
Since I don't have kids I can't relate to some columns, and as I don't own a blackberry or a state-of-the-art cell phone (nor am I joined at the hip with the current one I have), there are other columns I can't relate to. However, I think we think the same once it comes to cleaning and decluttering, so I very much enjoyed those columns.
